Chapter 341
Sure enough, the next second, Daron’s piercing gaze locked onto Reynaldo.
Reynaldo sucked in a breath and froze.
“M–Mr. Zamora, I swear I was just joking,” Reynaldo stammered, his voice trembling.
Daron looked at him, stone–faced, his voice cold as ice.

“Are you joking, or are you trying to tarnish someone’s reputation? Do you really think I can’t tell the difference?” Daron shouted.
Reynaldo lowered his head, avoiding Daron’s gaze. He hadn’t expected Daron to see straight through the real meaning behind his actions.
He drew a shaky breath, hardly daring to make a sound, and cast a nervous glance at Carter, hoping Carter would come to his rescue.
Seeing this, Carter frowned. Just one look at Reynaldo’s eyes, and he knew that Reynaldo had stirred things up on purpose.
Even though Carter was pissed, he knew that if he didn’t handle Reynaldo’s mess, Mary would definitely give him hell when they got home. So, he plastered on a smile and turned to Daron.
“Daron, Reynaldo’s just a kid who loves to run his mouth. He doesn’t mean any harm; he just doesn’t know when to stop sometimes. I’ll have a serious talk with him later. Please don’t take it to heart,” Carter said in a pleading tone.
But Daron wasn’t having it at all, clearly not about to cut him slack.
At this, Carter had no choice but to look to Marina for help, his face wearing an awkward, apologetic smile as he spoke softly.
“Marina, let’s just let this go, okay? Reynaldo really didn’t mean to…”
Before Carter could finish, Daron, who hadn’t said a word until now, suddenly spoke up, his voice icy.
“Uncle Carter, what should someone do when they say the wrong thing?”
“They should own up and fix it.” Carter forced an awkward smile.
But Daron sneered. “Uncle Carter, when I walked in just now, you raised your hand. What were you about to do?”
Carter’s expression shifted instantly. He suddenly realized that when Marina got under his skin earlier, he’d almost raised his hand to slap her.
“No, I- Carter started to protest.
Daron cut him off, his voice harsh and unforgiving.
“Uncle Carter, you can hit your own kid, but when it’s someone else, you suddenly can’t? How does that make any sense?”
Daron sneered.
As he spoke, he waved his hand, signaling.
Almost instantly, a bodyguard from nearby strode over.

“Since you can’t do it yourself, Uncle Carter, let my guy do it instead.” Daron said coldly.
“Slap him,” Daron ordered.
Carter was visibly startled, and Reynaldo couldn’t help but step back a few paces.

Daron’s bodyguards were all guys who knew how to throw a punch. If one of them slapped Reynaldo, his face would be messed up for days.
To save Reynaldo from a worse fate, Carter quickly turned and slapped him himself.
“You little troublemaker! Didn’t I warn you not to spout nonsense? Are you finally getting it?” Carter snapped.
He held back, so the slap didn’t really hurt.
Reynaldo obediently clutched his cheek and bowed his head, hurrying to apologize.
“I get it, I was wrong. I swear I won’t run my mouth again,” he said, sounding genuinely regretful.
“Sorry, Mr. Zamora. Sorry, Marina,” he mumbled, still holding his face.
But Daron just frowned, his voice icy.
“And since when do you get to call her name?” Daron shot back.
Reynaldo gritted his teeth, head hanging even lower. “Sorry, Ms. Finley,” he mumbled.
Hearing that, Daron didn’t say another word.
But Marina didn’t respond either.
Just when Carter thought it was all settled and started to leave with Reynaldo, Marina spoke up and stopped them.
“Wait,” she called out.
Carter paused and looked back at her. “What’s up, Marina?”
Marina ignored Carter completely, her eyes locking onto Reynaldo as she spoke.
‘Lift your head. Let me see what your face looks like,” Marina said.
Reynaldo glanced up at her, a little nervous.
The next second, Marina let out a soft, almost mocking chuckle.
‘Dad, you really couldn’t go hard on him, huh? That slap was nothing,” Marina said, her voice tinged with irony.
‘I still remember back in Sicester, when you slapped me. That one actually hurt, and my face stayed swollen for days,” she added, a hint of bitterness in her tone.
Hearing that, Carter hurriedly denied it.
“Marina, when have I ever hit you? You must be remembering it wrong. You’re my favorite daughter. How could I ever lay a hand on you?” Carter said, trying to sound sincere.
But Marina just looked up at Daron, a wry smile on her face.

“Daron, do you remember?” she asked, her tone light but tinged with irony.
Daron’s brows furrowed, a flash of annoyance in his eyes as the memory of Sicester hit him all at once.
He’d thought he’d stepped in time to stop the slap, but Marina had already taken the hit.
Carter then remembered that Daron had been there that day, too.
He took a deep breath, looked at Marina, and asked with a hint of surrender in his voice.
“What do you want me to do, Marina?”

Marina looked at Reynaldo’s face, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. She turned to Daron and said, “Daron, why don’t you have your bodyguard show my dad how it’s really done?”
At that, Daron gave a slight nod.
Immediately, Reynaldo scrambled back, panic written all over his face.
Carter also rushed to intervene.
“No, no, I’ll handle it myself. I’ll make sure he learns his lesson,” Carter said, trying to sound in control.
But his words were useless here.
Daron’s bodyguard stepped up with lightning speed and slapped Reynaldo hard across the face. Reynaldo almost lost his balance, barely staying on his feet.
At the same time, a wave of dizziness washed over him.
Carter hurried over to steady him, concern written all over his face.
“Reynaldo, are you okay?” Carter asked, his voice full of worry.
Reynaldo grabbed onto Carter, gritting his teeth so hard that his jaw ached. Inside, he was seething, wishing he could tear Marina apart piece by piece, but he forced himself to keep it together, not letting a hint of his hatred show in his eyes.
I’m fine, Reynaldo muttered, his voice tight.
Marina watched as Reynaldo’s face swelled up instantly, a faint smirk finally appearing on her lips. Only then did she look
satisfied.
She said coolly to Carter, “Dad, did you see that? If he ever starts spouting nonsense again, make sure he gets the same treatment.”
Carter took a deep breath, his face stiff. He didn’t look at Marina, nor did he dare meet Daron’s eyes.
Seeing Carter and Reynaldo looking totally humiliated, Marina smirked in satisfaction.
Mary was always the type to stir up drama, and now that Reynaldo had gotten slapped, who knew what kind of hell she’d
raise with Carter when she found out.
“Let’s go,” Marina said.
Daron nodded, letting Marina link arms with him as they left together.

Carter and Reynaldo just stood there, watching Marina and Daron walk away, looking pissed and embarrassed.
Reynaldo’s face was stiff, his cheeks swollen and burning hot. He glared at Marina and Daron, hatred blazing in his eyes.
Carter gave him a cold glance and said quietly, “Marina’s with Daron now. Why did you have to mess with her?”
Reynaldo took a deep breath, gritting his teeth.
“I didn’t even see who it was! If I’d known that guy was Daron, you think I’d have gone up to them?” Reynaldo spat, frustration all over his face.
He only realized it was Daron standing next to Marina when he got close.
If he’d known it was Daron, there was no way he would’ve gone anywhere near them.
Who would’ve thought Marina would latch onto Daron the moment she got back to Vrufield?
‘She really knows how to play the game, Reynaldo fumed inwardly.
He pressed his tongue against his cheek, a cold smirk tugging at his lips.
‘Sooner or later, I’m gonna make Marina pay for this slap,‘ Reynaldo vowed to himself, hatred burning in his chest.
