Chapter 47 Missing Pieces
DOMINIC’S POV
Once I calmed Evelyn down and saw her safely off the dance floor, the ballroom lights finally flickered back to life. The brightness illuminated a scene of chaos–dozens of shaken faces, scattered chairs, half–finished meals, and murmurs spreading like wildfire.
The atmosphere was thick with unease.
“Are you feeling okay now?” I asked and looked if she was really fine.
“I am, now that you are here with me,” she said with a smile and kept her hold firm on me. I wanted to check on others too. But Evelyn needed me right now.
Many of the Lunas were pale, trembling, holding onto their mates. Others were glancing around anxiously, as if fearing another sudden blackout.
I strode to the center of the room, joining the other Alphas as we tried to take control of the situation. I raised my voice, confident and calm. “Please remain composed. We suspect it was a minor technical issue. You all are safe. Everything is under
control now.”
Even as I spoke the words, I didn’t believe them.
Because something felt wrong.
I glanced around instinctively. My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin.
“That wasn’t a technical fault,” he growled inside my head. “I smelled something–chemicals, unnatural scents. This is has happened second time, and I think this was planned.”
I clenched my fists at my sides. He was right. The power grid at the pack estate was state–of–the–art. We had it upgraded just before the summit preparations began. A sudden outage like this should’ve been impossible. All these things are starting affect
my pack’s reputation.
What others are going to think about me and my pack?
Still, I pushed down the growing sense of unease.
I ordered the Beta to have the tech team run a full inspection immediately. “Check every line. Every generator. And keep this quiet for now. We don’t want a panic. And I want to meet all the people on duty after party. All my instructions were clear about tonight, I didn’t want kind of disruption tonight and still this happened. I need answers from them, otherwise they will be punished severely for putting the safety of so many packs at risk. at risk.”
“Of course, Alpha.” He replied.
They got to work quickly. Within the hour, the report came back–outdated wiring. Faulty junctions. But my gut twisted tighter. That wasn’t the truth. I could feel it.
The event ended early. Guests were escorted out with reassurances and apologies. I was still in the middle of apologizing t Alpha Derrick of the Silver Shadow Pack when I saw someone charging across the hall–James
He looked like he’d seen a ghost.
As soon as he saw me, I walked towards him and he uttered the words that confirmed all my suspicions
“Olivia’s missing,” he said, voice breathless and trembling “We’ve looked everywhere. She’s not here.”
My entire body froze.
“What the hell do you mean missing?” I demanded.

“She was dancing… with you,” he said, confusion flickering through his expression. “Then she was gone. Derek and I tried to find her. But there’s nothing. Even her scent–it’s gone, Dominic. Like she vanished.”
A cold fist closed around my heart.
She was just there. In my arms. I held her during the blackout. I told her not to be scared.
Where the hell did she go?
Before I could react, Evelyn approached, her face composed but her voice just a little too calm. “I don’t want to stir trouble,” she said carefully, “but… Olivia was upset about being excluded from the ceremony. Maybe… this blackout? Maybe she arranged it- to create a distraction and disappear.”
I turned sharply. “What are you implying?”
Evelyn lowered her eyes, voice soft and delicate. “Nothing, I just–she wasn’t herself lately. With everything going on… it’s not impossible that she snapped. Also the way she behaved with other Lunas tonight, she seemed like a totally different person tonight.”
That struck a nerve.
And clearly, it did for James too.
“She wouldn’t do that!” he barked, stepping forward, his voice echoing across the nearly empty ballroom. “You know Olivia. She doesn’t need to stage a disappearance. She’s not that kind of person. And to answer your question, she behaved differently because she knew she could be herself tonight and enjoy. You are making things up and blaming Olivia because that’s what you always do.”
Evelyn flinched. “I wasn’t accusing-”
“Yes, you were,” James growled. “You were planting doubt. Again. He might be blind to your tactics but I am not.”
I had to intervene. I stepped between them, holding up a hand. “Enough. This isn’t the time.”
James glared at me, his jaw clenched. “You always defend her. Always. Even now–Olivia is missing, and the first thing you do is entertain her accusations.”
His words stung.
“I’m not taking sides,” I snapped. “I’m trying to hold the pack together. If we lose our heads, we make ourselves weak. And if Olivia has been taken, then chaos is exactly what they want.”
James scoffed bitterly. “You’re going to regret this, Dominic. All of it. Do you want to deal with it patiently? Then don’t bother; she has far more loyal people to stand by her side.”
Then he turned and stalked off.
I stood there for a moment, my breath heavy, my wolf snarling inside me.
“He’s right, you know,” my wolf muttered. “You always let Evelyn twist the narrative. You had her in your arms–and now she’s gone. What if this wasn’t random?”
I didn’t reply.
But the moment James left, I turned to Evelyn again. “Where were you when the lights went out?”
She blinked, clearly startled. “I was… near the refreshment table. Why?”
“No reason,” I said softly, but my eyes didn’t leave hers. I watched for the flicker–the twitch of guilt, the hesitation. But Evelyn was calm, collected.

Too calm.
I turned away and walked back toward the Beta, my mind already racing.
Olivia was missing. Again. And this time, it wasn’t a coincidence. Someone had planned this.
And I was going to find out who.
Even if it meant uncovering truths I wasn’t ready to face.
