Chapter 77 Overload
An explosion lit up the darkness briefly, revealing a horrifying
scene.
Countless zombies surged down the corridor—some in white protective suits, others in blue patient gowns–howling like demons as they charged at the soldiers holding the line.
Bullets rained down relentlessly, but barely slowed them.
Only a direct shot to the head could take one down.
Their attack power, however, was far greater than ordinary zombies–one claw tore through a soldier’s tactical armor, yanking out his beating heart to devour raw.
They couldn’t hold on.
“Move!” Iris herded her dogs into the elevator in a flash.
“Get in the elevator! Retreat!” a familiar male voice shouted simultaneously.
Derek and the others rushed into the elevator, covering their comrades with gunfire as they backed away.
Within seconds, Iris spotted several familiar faces: Blake,
Anor, and Damon.

It was Damon’s team, plus four or five unfamiliar soldiers.
All froze at the sight of Iris, but survival took priority–everyone raced to escape the mutated zombies.
Just as everyone squeezed into the elevator, a warning blared.
“Beep! Beep! Overload!”
It was a large elevator with a 20–person or 3527–pound limit, and Iris‘ six well–fed, muscular dogs–each weighing 70 to 80 pounds–plus Damon’s twelve men, pushed it just over the limit.
Louisa snapped when she heard the alarm, glaring at Iris at the back, “Overload? Kick your dogs out now!”
Killing intent flashed in Iris‘ eyes. “Overload, huh?”
She kicked Louisa hard. “Get the hell out!”
“Ah!” Louisa stumbled out of the elevator, but soldiers standing guard at the entrance grabbed her and pulled her back.
At the elevator’s edge, Damon–shouldering a rocket launcher- said firmly, “Drop your weapons!”
Zombies were less than 33 feet away.

He tossed the rocket launcher into the zombies‘ path, detonating it to slow their advance temporarily.
Reluctantly, the other soldiers discarded their weapons.
The zombies stumbled briefly when hit, but were quickly trampled by the horde behind—like a log thrown into a flood of rats, barely delaying them.
But Damon’s gambit worked.
With the weapons gone, the elevator was no longer overloaded.
Louisa mashed the close button, and the doors began to shut.
Just as they neared closing, a female zombie in a lab coat lunged at an unnatural angle from the floor.
Iris‘ eyes turned icy, her superpower gathering in her palm–but a bolt of lightning struck first.
Lightning was followed by fireballs, metal darts, vines, and water orbs.
Almost everyone in the elevator attacked.
Their superpowers were weak, but nearly everyone possessed
one.

The leading female zombie was charred black in seconds.
What surprised Iris wasn’t the prevalence of superpowers, but the one who’d wielded the Lightning–type Power—Damon.
His lightning was noticeably stronger than the others, a rare ability.
Finally, the elevator doors slammed shut.
Tension eased slightly for everyone inside–surviving such a close call was reason for quiet relief.
Louisa recovered, turning to glare at Iris.
“What did you just do to me?”
Her voice sent chills down the others‘ spines, especially Derek and his group.
They tensed up, silently pleading for her to stop provoking Iris- the she–devil herself.
Hadn’t Louisa been the one to demand the dogs be thrown out first?
