After dinner, Marina and Daron headed back to Vrufield together. By the time they arrived in Vrufield, it was already late at night.
When the driver came to pick them up, Marina was completely wiped out. As soon as she got in the car, she leaned against Daron and drifted off to sleep.
Daron wrapped his arm around her waist, lowering his gaze to Marina, who was nestled against him. Her eyes were barely closed, and her long lashes quivered, showing just how uneasy her sleep was.
He moved the briefcase from her lap to the side, then gathered her fully into his arms. Marina opened her eyes and was startled to find herself sitting on Daron’s lap.
‘I…” she murmured.
Before she could finish, Daron spoke in a gentle voice. “Just sleep. I’ll wake you when we get home,” he said.
Marina nodded softly, nestled her head against Daron’s chest, and dozed off.
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror and noticed a rare softness in Daron’s eyes. His eyes widened in surprise.
ust as he was about to sneak another look, he suddenly realized Daron was staring right back at him through the mirror. He mmediately looked away.
Daron’s glare in the mirror was so piercing, it felt like it could scorch him. That gentle look he’d glimpsed earlier now felt ike it had just been his imagination.
The driver didn’t dare sneak another glance, keeping his eyes glued to the road and driving with extra care. When they inally reached the villa, he parked in the garage and quickly got out to open the back door for Daron.
Marina was dead to the world in Daron’s arms. Ever since that night in Port City, she hadn’t gotten a decent night’s sleep, and after landing in Yorelia, she’d barely caught a break before jumping straight into work.
By now, she was completely spent. Daron carried her out of the car, moving with the utmost care so as not to wake her.
Once he was out, the driver bent down and grabbed Marina’s briefcase from the back seat. With Marina still in his arms, Daron suddenly turned around.
The driver froze for a moment, then quickly passed him the briefcase, wearing a respectful smile. “Mr. Zamora, this is Mrs. Zamora’s briefcase, he said.
Daron just responded with a quiet nod. The driver kept that polite smile plastered on his face. “L,” he started.
Before he could continue, Daron took the briefcase from his hands. The driver stared at Daron, who was holding Marina in one arm and the briefcase in the other, completely stunned for a few seconds.
‘Isn’t this a bit much? All I did was touch her briefcase, the driver thought. ‘Is Mr. Zamora really that possessive?
The driver shut the car door, lingering awkwardly as he watched Daron carry Marina upstairs. Only after they disappeared inside did he finally get back in the car and drive off.
Daron carried Marina upstairs, set her briefcase down on the couch, and then headed straight to their room. He gently laid
her down on the bed.
Marina instinctively rolled over, her eyes half–open in a sleepy haze. When she saw Daron’s handsome face right next to

hers, she reached up and gently touched his cheek, whispering. “Aren’t you going to sleep yet?”
Daron heard her and replied softly. “I’ll be right there. You go ahead and sleep,” he said.

Marina murmured, “Okay,” and drifted off into a deep sleep. Daron gazed at her sleeping face and couldn’t help but smile, then brushed a gentle kiss across her cheek.
Just then, his phone started ringing. Daron glanced at the screen; it was Garret calling. He frowned slightly, muted his phone, then stepped out of the room to take the call.
Garret’s voice came through the phone almost immediately. “Daron, it’s bad! One of Zamora Group’s new building projects just collapsed. Three workers have been killed, and a few more are still buried underground.”
Daron furrowed his brow and said in a deep, serious tone. “Send me the details. I’ll head over right away,” he said.
“You’re back in the country?” Garret asked.
“Yeah,” Daron replied.
Garret quickly sent over the address. Daron glanced at the address and replied in a cool tone. “See you at the site,” he said.
“Okay,” Garret replied. Right after replying, Garret quickly followed up with another message.
“Daron, there are a bunch of posts about you blowing up online. Do you want me to take them down now?” he asked.
Right after that, Garret sent Daron the posts. Daron glanced over the posts, his brows furrowed.
The gist was that Zamora Group had just been hit by a major safety incident, but as the man in charge, Daron was busy enjoying himself abroad.
The post even included a few shots of him and Marina strolling hand in hand through the streets of Yorelia. Marina’s face was pixelated, but Daron’s was shown clearly as day. It was obvious this post was targeting Daron directly.
As for why Marina’s face was pixelated, it was probably because they didn’t want her getting dragged into the drama or facing any backlash; there was no need to invite trouble for her. Whoever put this up knew exactly what they were doing.
“Don’t delete it,” Daron replied. “Let it simmer for a while,” he added.
Garret quickly replied, “Alright. As soon as you arrive at the site and the company releases an official statement, I’ll be the first to add fuel to the fire with that post.”
Daron replied quietly, “Okay,” and hung up.
Before heading out, Daron peeked into the bedroom and saw Marina was out cold. Figuring she needed the rest, he didn’t bother waking her or mentioning any of it.
An hour later, Daron showed up at the scene. Rescue teams were already on the move. Outside the company gates, a bunch of reporters who’d rushed over after hearing the news were stopped by security.
Garret showed up with Daron to take charge of the rescue and immediately noticed a few reporters outside the fence, snapping pictures.
Some staff saw what was happening and were about to step in, but Garret quickly reached out and stopped them. “No need,” he said.
“Letting a bit of news get out might actually help the company,” he added. The staff glanced over at Daron, who was leading the rescue efforts on the front lines. His clothes were smudged with dirt.

They instantly got what Garret meant. Daron’s presence at the scene showed just how seriously the company’s leadership was treating the accident.
No matter what, Zamora Group was going to take responsibility for this accident. Three deaths meant this was no minor accident; it was a full–blown safety crisis.
News hit the Zamora family estate right away. When Hayley and Zara stepped into the main hall, they spotted Harris, who’t been about to leave, suddenly turning back from the courtyard.
Harris’s gaze lingered on Zara’s suit, his expression growing more reserved. “Zara, where are you headed at this hour?” he asked.
Before Zara could answer, Hayley spoke up softly. “I heard the new building project the company’s working on ran into trouble, so I asked Zara to come over and see if there’s anything she can help with.”
‘Daron isn’t back yet, and we just want to help out,” she added.
Harris cast a cool glance at Hayley and said in a low, steady voice.
‘Daron’s already at the site. You two should just head home and get some sleep. Zara hasn’t officially started at Zamora Group yet, and she doesn’t really know the projects, so she wouldn’t be much help anyway. Just don’t go causing any rouble,” he said.
I’m going to get some rest myself,” he added. With that, Harris walked into the main hall, not bothering to look back at Hayley and Zara.
