Chapter 177
Chapter 177
Kade said he was going to meet Medea at dusk, and if I haven’t been worried out of my damn mind before, I definitely was
now.
“And you’re still insisting on going alone?” I asked, getting up from where I was seated and I moved to his desk, planting my palms on top of it and leaning in.
He nodded, looking at me as he did so with his expression annoyingly calm. “Yes, and nothing’s going to change my mind.”
I groaned in frustration. “You-”
“Don’t you get it?” Kade cut me off as he stood up, walking around the desk and coming to stand in front of me, his hand reaching out and cupping my face. “Medea can’t kill me. Not until she gets what she wants, at least”
“And what exactly is it that she wants?” I finally asked the question. I was always telling myself it wasn’t important, that what he was doesn’t matter because he was still Kade, but right now I really wanted to know. I wanted to know what it was that Medea desperately needed, and why she was going to such length.
Kade leaned down and kissed my forehead gently. “I’ll tell you when I get back.”
I nodded. “I also have something to tell you.”
He smiled softly, saying, “Good, now I’m even more motivated to come back to you,” and God, my heart almost stopped. I’ve missed that smile. Fucking hell, I’ve missed that smile.
“What is it?” he asked with a frown.
“Don’t frown,” I whispered as I reached out, caressing his brows and the frown eased. “I like it when you smile.”
He scoffed softly, wrapping his arms around my waist and pressing me to his warm, big body, placing his chin on top of my head.
“Then give me more reason to smile,” he whispered and my heart did a little kick.
I nuzzled my nose in his chest, inhaling his intoxicating scent. “I’ll try, mio marito.” I raised my head, looking up to him. “You better come back to me.”
He raised his hand, his other fingers folded but his pinky finger stood out. “A pinky promise is a sacred promise. It can’t be broken so easily. So let’s pinky promise, my darling. I’ll return to you. Medea is only one woman.”
“You’re so silly,” I muttered but I locked my pinky with his and pressed out thumbs together.
I wanted to say Medea was just one woman, but she could do the damage of ten women, but I swallowed my words. Since he was so confident that he would come back to me, I was going to trust him.
And he healed easily and fast too. I was going to use that to comfort myself.

Kade left, and I went home for the first time in a while since there was nothing for me to do in the office so late. All the work has been concluded.
I said I was going to wait for him, didn’t I? But… but I just couldn’t sit still while he was out there with that dangerous woman.
So I called Gianna.

KADE
The meeting was set in an abandoned warehouse far from the city and deep in the slum where nobody would bat an eye if hey heard screams.
Medea really was an unpredictable woman.
came with weapons. Just knives, since I couldn’t get my hands on a gun with such short notice.
stepped out of my car and stood in front of the warehouse. It was dark, and eerily silent. But I heard heartbeats.
[wo.
One was steady and strong, while the other was a wild mess.
Two people… I could take care of just two, but I really hoped it wouldn’t come to me using violence or killing anybody.
moved in, tapping myself to make sure my daggers were with me.
stepped into the warehouse and I immediately sighted the two of them, even though it was dark.
t was a man. The second addition was a man, but that doesn’t make a difference.
Medea,” I called as I stopped walking, and stood a few feet away from them, my voice echoing. “Are we going to talk in larkness?”
There was a foul smell that hung in the walls in this warehouse, a smell of dried blood and decay, a smell that made me now that people have killed and been killed here.
Well, that was no surprise considering where the place was.
Where’s Belladonna?” Medea asked, her voice shaking, but somehow it still came out hard. Her heartbeat was the one which vas a mess, while her companion–that damn Colonel–his heartbeat was steady.
ignored Medea, and just turned to that bastard. “What do you want?”
Earlier today, when I saw the contact he and Belladonna had, I hated his guts. I didn’t know what he did, and neither did 1 want to know. I just wanted to punch a hole through his face.
A flashlight was turned on and lit up the place.
‘Hello, Kade,” the bastard greeted like we were having a pleasant dinner.
“I asked a question, Colonel,” I snarled.
“It’s quite simple,” he answered. “You didn’t bring what I wanted.”
“Ah,” I nodded as it clicked. “Then good thing she didn’t come.”
I turned to Medea to see her staring at me with her eyes wide. She looked like she’d lost her shit and was just about to go crazy, and her eyes were unfocused.
“Here I am, Medea,” I said. “Belladonna isn’t who you want. It’s me.”

She shook her head before she nodded. “Yes. Yes. Yes, you’re right, but I also want her.”
Was she on drugs? What was this behavior?
“And what do you want with Belladonna?”
“I want to kill her,” she answered through her teeth. “She deserves to die.”
I looked at her, really looked at her, and I noticed that her pupils were dilated. She really was on drugs.
“What Mrs. Iannelli meant-” I looked at Raines to see him calm, “-is that she doesn’t want Belladonna.”
I raised an eyebrow. “She just said the opposite.”
He just shrugged. “Well as you can see, she’s not in her right mind.”
I nodded as I moved to her. “I can see that. That’s why I’m going to take her.”
“I can’t let you do that, because I need her to get Belladonna.”
I turned to him with my teeth bared. “Say that again and I’ll snap your neck.”
I grabbed Medea and she struggled against me, screaming at me to let her go, but all her fighting did nothing.
I made the mistake of turning my back on Raines, and when I heard a gun cock, I was too late.
A gunshot went off, loud and ringing. I let go of Medea as I went down on my knees, a piercing pain in my thigh.
Fuck, I underestimated this man.
