Just as Marina was about to leave, Hayley got up from the couch.

She put on her Zamora matriarch persona and spoke softly, “Marina, sorry you had to see us make fools of ourselves today.
“I was wrong about you before, and I’m sorry about that. And could you please thank Daron for me?
“Thank him for having Zara’s back even after he found out what she did. Today, he didn’t just save Zara, he saved my pride, too, so I won’t have to feel embarrassed in the Zamora family from now on.”
Marina knew exactly what Hayley was really getting at.
Hayley was subtly telling her that even if Zara messed up, it didn’t matter.
So what if they took the matter to Daron? Daron would always have their backs.
Marina paused, turning back to Hayley.
Hayley bent down and helped Zara to her feet.
Tears still glistened in Zara’s eyes. Bette’s outburst had shaken her up.
Compared to Hayley, Zara was still too young and inexperienced.
Right now, Zara’s face was as pale as a sheet.
But as soon as Bette left, Hayley slipped right back into her Zamora matriarch persona, like all that kneeling and pleading had never even happened.
She even managed to smile at Marina and spoke softly, “Marina, take care on your way home, okay? I know you’re not a fan of this place, so I won’t make you stay.”
Marina looked at Hayley’s gentle facade and replied coolly, “Ms. Blanchard, doesn’t it ever get tiring?”
Marina thought to herself, ‘Isn’t it exhausting, always pretending to be someone you’re not?‘
‘Honestly, Hayley doesn’t have to put on this show for me.”
After all, Marina was well aware Hayley couldn’t stand her, and Marina had no intention of playing nice either.
They both knew what was up, but Hayley could still put on that fake friendly act, like nothing ever happened between them.
The only thing that made Marina feel lucky right now was that Daron wasn’t Hayley’s real son.
If he were, with all her backstabbing and fake smiles, Marina would’ve been sick to her stomach.
Hayley kept her polite smile, unfazed by Marina’s question.
“Take care. I won’t see you out,” she said.
Marina didn’t say another word to her. She turned around and walked straight out of the Zamora mansion’s main hall.

Hayley kept her eyes on Marina’s retreating figure until she disappeared from view. Only then did Hayley finally look away and tell Zara calmly, “Let’s head back to the side courtyard.”
Zara’s legs were dead from kneeling for so long.
She tried to follow Hayley, but the moment she took a step, her legs buckled, and she went down again.
Hayley didn’t bother to help her up. She just stood over Zara, looking down with an air of authority.
Seeing this, Zane stepped forward, ready to help Zara up.
But Hayley put out a hand to stop him, her voice calm but unyielding as she said, “Zara, you knelt yourself, so you need to get up by yourself.”
Zara bit her lip lightly, steadied herself, and managed to get up from the floor.
‘I can do it, Mom. I’ll stand up for myself,” she said.
Hearing Zara, Hayley gave a satisfied nod and turned to leave.
Zara hurried after her, leaving the main hall.
Zane saw that and quickly followed after them.
When they got to the entrance of the side courtyard, Zane paused, ready to say his goodbyes to Hayley.
But before he could even get a word out, Hayley swung her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
Hayley said, “Why did you show up at the Zamora mansion today?
‘Starting tomorrow, you’re not my driver anymore. You already quit. So what made you think you could show up in front of Harris?
‘You think waltzing in with that ring and saving me and Zara makes you some kind of hero?”
Eddy’s head snapped to the side from the slap. After hearing Hayley’s furious scolding, he finally spoke up.
‘Hayley, if I hadn’t brought the ring over with me today, Harris and Bette would’ve made a huge scene. They wouldn’t have stopped until they got what they wanted.
‘Zara would’ve been thrown behind bars because of Bette.
‘How could you put Zara in that kind of danger?”
Zane gave Hayley a look that said he wasn’t happy about it. He clearly didn’t agree with what she’d done this time.
Hayley just shut her eyes and didn’t say a word to Zane.
Zane took a deep breath and said in a low voice, “Hayley, you’ve got the status and everything you ever wanted in the Zamora family. Isn’t that enough?
“Zara’s finally living the kind of life she could only dream of before. You…”
Zane was about to say more, but Hayley cut him off before he could finish his words.
“Shut up,” Hayley snapped.

Zara bit her lip, walked over to Hayley, and gently tugged at her sleeve.
“Mom, don’t be mad. I know I messed up,” she said softly.

Hayley let out a quiet sigh, her voice icy as she said, “Alright, let’s drop it. Go back to your room and get some rest.”
Zara nodded quietly. As she headed to her room, she glanced back at Zane and whispered, “Zane, getting the ring was all me. My mom had nothing to do with it.”
Zane’s face went rigid for a moment.
Zara didn’t say anything else and hurried off.
Zara was freaked out today. She never expected Harris to be so obsessed with that ring.
Zane watched Zara head back to her room, let out a heavy sigh, and turned to Hayley.
“Hayley, enough is enough. Just look at what Zara has become now,” he said.
Hayley shot Zane a frosty look, her voice icy and indifferent as she said, “This has nothing to do with you. Starting tomorrow, you’re not the Zamora family’s driver anymore.
“If you care about Zara, stay out of our lives from now on.”
With that, Hayley turned and headed back to the side courtyard.
Zane sighed, shook his head, didn’t say a word, and walked away.
Hayley walked into the living room of the side courtyard and noticed Zara standing by the floor–to–ceiling windows.
“What’s matter?” she asked.
Zara snapped out of her thoughts, turned to Hayley, and slightly shook her head.
She said softly, “It’s nothing, Mom.
“Sorry… My recklessness today probably dragged you into this.
“I don’t know what Daron thinks of me now.”
Zara was nervously biting her lip and added, “I just wanted…”
Hayley walked over to Zara and put a hand up, stopping her before she could finish her words.
Hayley said softly, “Zara, I understand how you feel.
“Alright, let’s put this behind us.
“It’s the first time you’ve made a mistake like this. Daron isn’t going to hold it against you.”
The look in Hayley’s eyes made Zara tense up. She caught on immediately to what Hayley meant.
Bette had set up cameras in the side courtyard and didn’t say a thing.
Who knew what else Bette might have planted right under their noses?
