When I opened my eyes again, I was… moving.
My eyes were opened, but I still wasn’t aware of my environment. My brain was taking a while to catch up.
I blinked a few times and that was when I heard the rumble of an engine.
I was in a car.
“Stop,” I said, my voice hoarse. “Stop this car.”
The brake was slammed so suddenly that I almost went flying.
“Kade? Are you awake?”
I turned my head to see Gianna’s worried face. Her eyebrows were furrowed, sweat between us.

“You are awake,” she said, looking down at me and I realized I was lying down on the back seat. “What happened, Kade? Belladonna suddenly called me in the dead of the night and asked me to track your location. When I tracked your location to this place, I knew something was off, but she told me not to follow. I followed her, but I did thirty minutes after she was gone, because I had a bad feeling. And then I get to the warehouse and I see blood everywhere, you and Medea unconscious and covered in blood. I called the police-”
“Belladonna,” I rasped, trying to sit up, but my knees reminded me that they were shattered and had bullets in them. I fought past the pain and nausea and managed to sit up, breathing through my nose and closing my eyes, sweating. “Gianna, I need to get to Belladonna.”
“Where’s she? And what happened to your knees? They looked weird. Medea was also shot in the knee.”
“Raines,” I managed, my eyes still closed and my head resting on the headrest. “He’s behind everything. He took her.”
“W–what?” Gianna stammered. “He took her? Why? What does he want with her?”
“This isn’t the time for questions, Gianna.” I opened my eyes, fixing my gaze on her. “Get your shit together. We have to find her. I don’t know what Raines‘ going to do, but we have to get her fast.”
“I’ll go to the police.”
I shook my head. “This police won’t be able to help. Raines is a Colonel. I’m sure he can avoid the police.”
“So what do we do?”
“I’ll track her myself.”
She blinked down at my legs and back up. “You can barely move your legs. We have to get you to the hospital.”
“There’s no time for that!” I yelled, my fists clenched. “With every second we’re wasting, who knows what Raines‘ doing to her?”
“Then how are you going to help her like this?! she snapped. “You’re not helping like this! How are you going to walk? You can’t even sit up without sweating! Do you think Belladonna would want to see you this miserable? Do you think she would want to come back and see that her husband can’t walk? We have to get you to the hospital.”
I leaned my head on the headrest again, inhaling deeply. “These regular hospitals can’t operate on me, Gianna. I’m not… I’m not like you humans, so we have equipments and medicines that works for us. If these hospitals get their hands on my blood

She looked at me with her eyes narrowed. She looked like she wanted to ask a ton of questions, but instead, she settled on. ‘How will you be in danger?”
We’ll get haunted,” I answered. “When humans find out things that they can’t understand or things that are above them, they want to experiment, they want to control. This has happened before, Gianna. I can’t let it happen again.”
So…” She sighed, running her hand through her hair, looking exhausted. “So what do we do? Where do you get treated?”
I have to go back to the States,” I answered weakly, feeling an exhaustion deep in my bones, in my very core. “But I can’t do that when Belladonna’s safety isn’t guaranteed.”
Gianna looked at me with something close to pity and concern. “If you push your legs and just strain them, the state of them might worsen and you might never walk again.”
“She comes first, Gianna,” I whispered. “She’s my priority. Always.”
Gianna sighed again, deeper and heavier this time. “How will you find her?”
‘I’ll track her scent. It hasn’t been that long, since both their scents will still be fresh.”
She opened her mouth, before she closed it.
“You aren’t going to ask?” I asked with an eyebrow.
She shook her head. “The less I know, the better.”
I nodded. “Take me back to the warehouse. I can manage to walk in my other form.”
She nodded and turned to the steering wheel, starting the car. We drove back to the warehouse and I could tell the police were here from all the yellow tape that was wrapped around the place.
Gianna stepped out of the car and moved to the back. She helped me step out, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. I leaned all my weight on her as she helped me get to the wall where I rested on it while fighting to remain on my feet.
“Medea is with the police,” she said softly. “She’ll be charged with drug usage as well. The company is doing fine, so don’t think about anything else but getting Beiladonna”
“I know.”
“Good. I’ll see you. And when next I see you, you’d better be with Belladonna, and you’d better be alive. And don’t be paralyzed as well. I’ll book your flight to the States, so as soon as you come back, you’re flying home.”
Gianna was the person everybody needed in their lives. She’s someone you could trust with your life, and you know your life was in capable hands.
“Thank you, Gianna,” I said. “I’ll definitely be coming back alive and with Belladonna as well.”
She nodded and moved to her car. “If I don’t see you in a day, I’ll report it to the police.”
She entered her car and drove off. I watched the car until it was out of my sight, preparing to shift.
I had told Gianna that I could manage to walk in my other form, but I wasn’t even sure if I could.
I inhaled deeply as I willed the beast to come out, my jaw clenched as the shift tore through me. It was even more painful

I bent on all fours as my claws and paws came out. And then the more painful and hated part started; the lengthening of my face to form my wolf’s head and those sharp teeth.
The shift was finally done, and I was pushed to the back as my wolf took over. I tasted walking and the pain was still there. Walking was still difficult, but it was better than when I was in my human form.
I moved into the warehouse, the smell of blood foul, my walking slow, but at least I was moving.
I immediately caught Belladonna’s scent and I started moving, tracking it.
