Chapter 413
Chapter 413
Marina left the Zamora mansion and drove back to the home she shared with Daron.
From a distance, she spotted a car parked in front of their villa’s garage.
As she got closer, she realized it was Bette’s car.
When Bette saw Marina coming back, she moved her car out of the way.
Marina took the opportunity to drive straight into the garage.

As Marina stepped out of her car, Bette walked in from outside and said coolly, “I tried entering the code at the front door, but it said it was incorrect.
“Did you change the code?”
Marina shook her head gently and said in a calm voice, “I didn’t change it.”
Bette raised an eyebrow. “Did Daron change it?”
Marina nodded and headed for the elevator, pressing the up button.
“Bette, let’s head upstairs and talk,” Marina said.
Bette nodded and walked over to Marina, following her upstairs.
As soon as they stepped into the living room, Belinda came over.
Bette looked genuinely surprised to see Belinda here.
Belinda greeted Bette. “Ms. Blanchard, you’re here.”
Bette gave a small nod, made her way to the couch, and sat down.
Marina asked Belinda to get Bette some water, then joined her on the couch.
Bette scanned the room before turning her gaze back to Marina.
Bette said, “See? People change after getting married.
“My grandpa always wanted to send someone to look after Daron, but he never let anyone in.
“Ever since you married him, suddenly there’s a housekeeper living here, and even the security code’s been changed.
“Makes me wonder, after you’ve been with him long enough, maybe he’ll even start treating that mother and daughter differently.
Marina just kept quiet and listened.
She had no idea how Bette felt about Daron at that moment.
After all, back at the Zamora mansion, Daron hadn’t spared Bette any dignity. He just openly sided with Hayley and Zara.
Bette was probably still upset about it.

And now that she couldn’t get in with the code she used to have, she must’ve felt pretty let down.

Bette and Daron were full siblings who came into this world together, but Daron still didn’t take her side. Instead, he chose to back Hayley and Zara.
Marina could understand the resentment Bette must be feeling deep down.
Looking at it from either Bette’s or Daron’s perspective, neither of them was at fault.
It was just a difference in where they stand.
Marina decided not to comment and simply stayed silent.
Seeing that Marina wasn’t going to say anything, Bette pulled an ornate box out of her coat, set it on the table, and slid it over to Marina.
“It’s for you,” Bette said.
Marina lowered her gaze to the ornate box, hesitated for a moment in surprise, then gently pushed it back toward Bette.
Marina said, “Bette, this is far too precious. I’m not comfortable keeping something like this for you.
‘Please, you should take it back to the Blanchard family.
Bette glanced at the box that had been pushed back to her, gave a small scoff, and said, “This is Zamora family property.
My grandmother passed it down to my mother. There’s no way I’d ever take it back to the Blanchard family.
‘Now that you’re part of the Zamora family, you’re the safest person to keep it.”
Marina replied softly, “It’s really not that safe. This item is valuable.”
Bette noticed Marina barely glanced at the box. After a brief silence, she could tell what Marina was thinking.
Bette said, “If you don’t want to keep it, give it to Daron. Let him take care of it.
Either way, I’m not bringing it back to the Blanchard family.”
With that, Bette pushed the box aside and didn’t spare it another glance.
Marina subtly picked up on Bette’s mood from her body language.
Bette didn’t seem to like the ring at all. If anything, she looked like she thought it was a jinx.
When Marina noticed that, she was momentarily taken aback, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes.
She secretly watched Bette’s face, and that confirmed her guess.
Marina thought, ‘Maybe everyone in the Blanchard family feels the same way about the Zamora family
After all, Wilhelmina died at the Zamora mansion when she was at her best age.
“The things she left behind there were probably all bought by the Zamora family, which is why the Blanchard family never took any of them as mementos.
‘Even though they can’t stand the Zamora family, they still have to look after those things, because Daron is still there, and

he is family, after all.
One can’t say the Blanchard family doesn’t put effort into looking out for Daron.
Belinda quickly handed Bette a glass of water.
Bette accepted the glass and took a gentle sip.

After a moment, Bette set her glass down, looked up at Marina, and said calmly, “Marina, Zane has been with Hayley for
ears. He’s her driver, and they used to be colleagues.
Do you think Ryan would’ve taken out that ring if I hadn’t shown up at the Zamora mansion today?
They were clearly out to drag your name through the mud, Marina. You barely managed to defend yourself and prove your nnocence this time. What about next time?”
Marina looked up and met Bette’s eyes, her heart tightening at the challenge in Bette’s gaze.
Sette continued, “As long as you and Daron are married, this kind of drama is never going to stop.
If you don’t stand up for yourself, they’ll treat you like a pushover.”
Marina bit her lip lightly, her gaze flickering over to Belinda.
Bette noticed the concern in Marina’s eyes and said calmly, “Mrs. Spencer’s been with my grandpa forever. You can trust her.
he’s not the type to gossip.”
Marina pressed her fingers to her brow and said quietly, “Bette, are you suggesting we sit here, with the cameras rolling, and cheme about how to fight back?”
Daron could watch the living room feed whenever he wanted.
Sette raised an eyebrow, clearly couldn’t care less about the cameras.
Bette said, “My hostility toward those two has always been out in the open.
So what if Daron’s glued to the security feed right now?
As his sister, is it wrong for me to show you, my sister–in–law, how to watch out for troublemakers?”
As she spoke, Bette deliberately glanced up at the camera overhead, making it obvious she was challenging Daron.
Marina was silent.
It was clear Bette was still sulking about Daron.
But honestly, she wasn’t really that mad about it.
Bette and Daron had been siblings for so long that the moment Hayley reached for her phone to call him, Bette probably already knew what would happen.
Even though Zara messed up, she had a decent excuse ready, and Hayley was the one who took the initiative to bring it up to Harris, so Zara got a preemptive scolding.
Daron couldn’t really say anything to that.

Hayley knew how to read people and handle situations.
After all that, even if Daron found out, it wouldn’t make waves.
But if Hayley’s scheme had actually worked, it would have driven a wedge between Marina and Daron for sure.
No doubt, things would’ve gotten tense between Marina and Daron.
