Zara could see the hesitation in Calista’s eyes, but she didn’t point it out. Instead, she played along and said exactly what Calista wanted to hear.
Calista had been worried she wouldn’t be able to stand her ground in front of Zara.
But now that Zara had said that, Calista finally felt like she could let go of all her worries.
She nodded seriously. “Okay, Zara. As long as I’m at headquarters, I’m always here for you.”
Zara’s lips curled into a gentle smile. Then she said, “Thanks.”
Calista grinned. “What are best friends for?”
Zara’s smile never faded as she continued tidying up her things.
Chloe came out of the office again and handed Zara a document.
She said, “Miss Blanchard, this is your appointment notice.”
Zara took it and said, “Thanks.”
Chloe waved it off. “No problem. Once you get to the branch office, if you have any questions, feel free to ask Mr. Nipsy Moulton. He’s a great mentor.”
Zara nodded. “Okay.”
Chloe gave her one more piece of advice.
“Even though you’re starting as a project manager at the branch office, it’s still a good idea to listen to the seniors first. They know the ins and outs of the place better than anyone.”
Zara nodded humbly. “Got it.”
Chloe saw Zara understood, said nothing more, and turned to leave.
Calista stood quietly off to the side, her eyes showing a hint of surprise.
She hadn’t expected Zara to be made project manager as soon as she arrived at the branch office.
Calista had thought Zara would be a regular employee, just like before.
Giving a newcomer a manager position right away was unheard of at the Zamora Group.
So even as an adopted daughter in the Zamora family, Zara clearly had some serious standing.
Calista looked at Zara with envy in her eyes.
After Chloe left, Calista said quietly to Zara, “Congrats, Zara. Who knew Mr. Zamora thought so highly of

you?”
Zara’s lips curved into a gentle smile.

She spoke softly, “Daron’s hoping I’ll get more experience. Now that I’ve got this role, I’ve got to take on a lot more responsibility and pressure. I’ll have to step up my game.”
Zara was packing up her stuff as she talked, then grabbed the box and hugged it to her chest.
Calista immediately said, “I’ll walk you downstairs.”
Then, Calista reached out and took the box from Zara.
Zara didn’t object and picked up her handbag.
On her way out, Zara shot a look at Marina.
Right then, Marina looked up, and their eyes met.
Zara’s lips curved into a subtle smile, a trace of provocation flickering in her gaze.
Even though Zara had screwed up, Daron didn’t punish her at all. Instead, he went ahead and gave her a manager position at the branch office right off the bat.
Either way, this was bound to get under Marina’s skin for a long time.
Zara wondered if Marina would get annoyed enough to go cause some drama with Daron.
Zara thought, ‘If Marina goes to Daron and makes a scene, that’d be perfect.’
‘I hope Daron gets sick of her as soon as possible.‘
Marina shot Zara a calm, almost blank look. There was nothing in her eyes, no hint of emotion at all.
Zara had a soft smile at the corners of her lips as she spoke in a gentle, almost teasing voice, “Marina, aren’t you going to congratulate me?”
Zara’s tone was cheerful and casual, making it seem like she meant no harm at all.
Marina met Zara’s eyes directly, her voice cool and detached as she replied, “Congratulations.”
Seeing Marina’s less–than–enthusiastic response, Zara couldn’t help but smile even more.
Calista caught on and managed a grin herself.
Watching Marina get taken down a peg, Calista felt like she finally got her sweet revenge.
Just as Zara and Calista turned to head for the elevator, Marina spoke up again in her usual flat tone, “Not sure what’s so special about moving from HQ to a branch.
“But since you wanted congratulations, I won’t holdback.”

Calista’s eyes widened instantly, and she couldn’t help blurting out, “Really? How did I miss that?”
“What kind of look did he have on his face?” Calista asked eagerly.

Zara lowered her voice and whispered, “Garret’s not the type to sneak glances at people. If he notices you, he’s definitely interested.
“Calista, it’s a shame I’m getting transferred. If I were still here, I could look out for you at work. Now you’ll have to handle things on your own.”
Calista bit her lip, cheeks burning from Zara’s teasing. She couldn’t help but imagine Garret’s sidelong glance at her, the scene playing out vividly in her mind.
Even though she hadn’t actually caught it, she could practically picture Garret checking her, outclear as day in her head.
