Marina bit her lip, a soft smile unconsciously curling at the corners as she spoke in a gentle voice, “Thank you. I thought…”
Marina let the sentence trail off, the rest lingering unspoken between them.
“Turns out Daron really does care about our marriage, Marina thought to herself.
The doubts that had been weighing on her heart faded away, and the irritation from Zara and Hayley’s little schemes earlier in the day finally melted away.
Daron said, “Marina, I need a little time to handle things with Hayley and Zara.”
“I…” Marina started, but quickly cut herself off.
Hayley wasn’t in the mood to hear Daron talk about Zara and Hayley, so she quietly cut him off.
“I know, Mrs. Blanchard has helped you before, so you can’t turn your back on her.
“I understand you need time to handle it.
“But their little games are really getting on my nerves. If this kind of thing happens again, I want you to be on my side. That’s all I’m asking.”
For the first time, Marina made her expectations clear to Daron.
Daron had always been trying to find a way to keep peace.
But after everything that had happened, he realized there was no way Marina’s relationship with Hayley and Zara could be balanced.
Hayley and Zara were always stirring up trouble, not exactly evil, but their constant little schemes made them a real headache to deal with.
“Alright, I hear you,” Daron said softly, his tone gentle and reassuring.
With Daron’s promise, Marina finally felt her heart settle, the tension easing just a little.
“Bette’s frustrated that you’re always defending Mrs. Blanchard and Zara. She doesn’t want to see you get manipulated by them,” Marina said softly.
Daron was silent for a moment.
Then he said deeply, “When I’m back in town, I’ll go to the Blanchard family myself and apologize to Bette.”
Marina bit her lip, following the thread of the conversation.
“You know, you two are family, and Bette cares about you. If you ever need to talk or have something on your mind, you can always go to her first,” she said softly.

After everything that happened with the Zamora family’s ancestral hall, Marina finally understood how things
worked.
The Zamora family had always refused to let the Blanchard family bring back Wilhelmina’s ancestral tablet.
This time, when Leo suggested letting Victor return to the Zamora family, Harris finally agreed.
Taking advantage of the situation, Daron proposed adding Hayley’s name to the Zamora Family Genealogy, since she had helped him before.
That way, Leo’s wife’s entry in the family genealogy would end up with two women listed.
Since Daron didn’t care about his birth mother’s status, the Zamora family didn’t bother to stop the Blanchard family from taking Wilhelmina’s memorial back.
Marina could imagine Wilhelmina must have been unhappy during all those years with the Zamora family.
If she were Wilhelmina’s child, she’d want her to return to the Blanchard family, too, rather than being kept in a family that had made her miserable her whole life.
But Daron’s leaning toward Hayley gave Bette the wrong idea about what he meant.
That’s when the two of them started having issues.
On Daron’s end, there was a long stretch of silence.
Marina couldn’t tell if he had actually heard what she said.
She could still hear the faint rustling of papers, so she guessed he was probably working late.
So Marina made an excuse about needing to rest and hung up the call.
After hanging up, Marina tossed her phone aside and flopped onto the bed.
Maybe it was because Daron had finally put her mind at ease, so she slept like a baby that night.

The next day, Marina drove to Zamora Group. She had just sat down at her desk when Chloe came out to the work area.
Chloe walked over to Zara, leaned in, and said quietly, “Miss Blanchard, could you come with me for a
moment?”
Zara looked up from her desk at Chloe, a hint of confusion in her eyes, but she went along and followed Chloe into the office.
Just a few minutes later, Zara walked out of Chloe’s office.
She came out and started packing up her things without a word.
