Chapter 7
My dad was wearing a mask, eyes darting around like a deer in headlights.
Y you how did you get back?
I shoved him aside and stormed into the kitchen, pointing at the piles of meat.
What the hell is this? Tell me–is this Mom, or that woman?”
His eyes went blank. “What woman?”
That woman! The one pretending to be Mom earlier!”
His expression went calm again, and he glanced at me coolly.
You’re losing it again? You just got back–what woman?”
What do you mean just got back?”
‘I got home at six this evening–it’s past four in the morning now!”
He shot me a scowl.
I just saw you today! And it’s only one in the morning!”
I told you not to go abroad, but your mom wouldn’t listen.”
You must have been doing drugs out there and fried your brain!”
I’m used to him thinking the worst of me.
I’m not on drugs! It’s past four! Don’t try to gaslight me.”
I literally just left this room, and it was already past three when I did–there’s no way it’s one o’clock!”
He pointed to the clock–its hands stuck at one.
smirked.
Oh, here we go again! Moving the hands, huh?”
That works on Mom, but it won’t work on me.”
le snorted and muttered in his accent, “Damn, all that school made you stupid.”
Confidently, I pulled out my phone and showed it to him.
‘Look!”
He glanced at the screen, then at me, gave me a sarcastic “number one” gesture, and then slapped me hard across the face.
If you’re losing it, go back to the hospital. Don’t bother me!”
1 held my face and looked at the phone–big bold letters: “November 5, 2024, 01:28.”
Two and a half months ago,
Panic shot through me.

He went back to chopping meat, humming ignoring me.
I clutched my hair and crouched on the floor, then ran to check the doorplate.
