Chapter 126

Chapter 126

The night is clear. There’s not a single cloud in sight. It’s the darkest night of the month, and as we see me Cry, al can think of is what Santiago’s wolf said to me. It’s made me angrier than everything Sauriago himself has done. Please me of betraying them, but the truth isn’t as blackandwhite

The anger is making me question everything he stood for. I was never accepted into the pack, and if he had heres the state he was supposed to be, it would have been the first thing he did. He would have protected me, not only dever former Lasta Romano, but also from his vessel. He would have demanded the acceptance of his mate

The outside of the city is still surrounded by beta princes. The cargo trucks are parked away from them to wed any damage. The hostility of the betas changes when they see the armadas quietly emerge from the darkness

Their orders must be to stand down because they simply move out of the way. None of them raises their weapons as the line of attack silently moves through the borders of the city. Ragnar stops just before we enter. He looks over all one of the wolves and then looks back at his father, who will be staying out here to ensure none of them attacks us fram behind

Malcolm steps forward, removing his helmet. He tucks it into his side, and although I’m wearing protective gear, I know he knows it’s me standing just a few feet away from him. He looks up at Ragnar and nods

I’d tell you to take care of her, but I know she’ll take better care of you. Our orders are to keep anyone from leaving This is an offering of peace. It’s up to you to do what you want with the territory. The people belong to you,he holds out a scroll

Ragnar stares down at the scroll. He hates being handed things by people he doesn’t trust. I reach out for it and shake is to make sure there’s nothing hidden inside that could potentially harm either of us. I tuck it into my vest and nod

I’ll see you, Malcolm,I say, stepping back into position

You’re like a mini soldier. It’s kind of adorable, Helvig, he laughs

I can kick your ass without using my hands now,I scoff. You should remember that.”

Oh, no,he says sarcastically

All I can hear in my coms is Ivar laughing. I tick the saliva in Malcolm’s throat, and he immediately starts choking on his spit. He looks up at me and smiles as he tries to catch his breath. The lycans around us all laugh

Let’s move,Ragnar orders and turns away to head into the city

I wave at Malcolm and follow behind Ragnar, who I know is upset that the beta prince might have been flirting with me. Had I not made him choke, he probably would have growled at the two of us

I take a deep breath and decide that now is a good time to try my grandmother’s suggestion. I focus on our bond as I keep looking around. He pauses when he feels I’m trying to invade his space. He spent the entire morning trying to reach out to me the same way I do and couldn’t quite get it right

I can’t think of a single thing to say to him if this were to work, so I start running attack regulations as I keep pushing against our connection. He clears his throat and glances over at me, probably wondering why I’m messing with him. That’s not my intention, but it’s funny that it’s turning out that way

I pause when I see a group of kids in an alleyway. I whistle, getting their attention. They all turn to look at me. They sund there for a moment, and it pisses me off that these kids who can’t be older than fifteen are out here smoking wolfsbane

Get inside,I growl. Some of them almost trip over themselves trying to run away

Everyone is out in the open. They weren’t warned. When they see us, they all start running away. Women pick up their pups

and run in the other direction. Others are waving those who are outside into their homes to get them out of the way

None of our soldiers raised their weapons against any of the civilians. There’s not much we can do about the way they’re reacting to the invasion. Ragnar tucks his gun back and waves everyone forward. We’ve lost the cover of the darkness, but that really doesn’t change anything

I clip my AR and clear my head, pushing my pelt forward enough to gain speed

-What the hell is this asshole doing?I hear Ragnar’s voice echo in my head. The invasion of his thoughts makes me hesitate, but I still take off with everyone else

-Can you hear me?I ask. He trips but catches himself before he hits a parked car. He looks back at me with disbelief. -Oh shit, we have to be in our pelts for that to work.-

-What the hell is happening?he demands

-We’re initiating a fucking attack, move.- I jump over him. He runs after me, easily catching up

-What is happening?he asks a little calmer

-This is our link. As mates, we can communicate when we’re using our Lycan strength.-

He’s quiet for a while. When we enter the main house block, things begin to get interesting. There are armored jeeps, armed alphas, and betas watching their surroundings, prepared for a fight

-All right, Little Wolf, let’s see how much we’ve learned from our training,he glances over at me. -Stay low. Don’t stray from me.-

I nod and remove the clips from my weapons. I raise my gun and follow him out. He holds his fist up, stopping us. I glance back at Ivar, who gives me a nod. Crouched behind a car across the street are my grandmother and Kennedy. I see Ragnar give them a signal. The two of them stand up and whistle. One of the Alphas turns around and reaches for his weapon, but doesn’t make it very far

In unison, we all step out from where we’re hiding and begin to move forward. My mind stops racing, and I lock in the same way I do during training. I stay low, moving around Ragnar to finish off those he’s knocked and or missed

The sound of war is terrifying. Every shot fired echoes in my ears in every direction. I call out that I have to reload and kneel to quickly change the magazine. Those who were protecting the street are cleared

-Wolves.- I warn Ragnar. He stops and straightens out to let out a battle cry

The others are quick to respond and charge the main house’s iron gate. I watch for a moment as the lycans jump over the gates, only to be met with the alpha teams that are waiting for them. My stomach tightens when the wolves rush them three. to one. The fear is momentary when I see how easily one lycan takes care of the wolves coming at them

-Come, Sophia.- Ragnar calls through our link. -We’re going inside.-
