Tracy turned and found a young man standing behind her. He wore a black suit, gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, a polite smile fixed on his face.

“And you are?” Tracy studied him carefully, certain she had never met him before.

The man maintained his courteous smile. “Hello, I’m Mr. Johnson’s assistant-Gary. Mr. Johnson is waiting for you at a café nearby.”

At the mention of Mr. Johnson, Tracy’s first thought was Sean. The Johnson family heir has nothing better to do than sit around in a café waiting for me?

Natalie tugged on her arm and whispered, “Tracy, when he says Mr. Johnson… he doesn’t mean the Johnson family heir, does he?”

“Probably,” Tracy admitted with a nod.

“You know him?” Natalie’s eyes widened.

Tracy shook her head. “Not really. My uncle once saved him, that’s all. I barely know him.”

Natalie nearly choked. Not really? He owed her family his life-that counted as “not knowing”?

Quickly snatching her purse from the car, Natalie blurted, “Tracy, I just remembered my mom wanted me home for dinner tonight. I’ll get going first, okay?”

And before Tracy could answer, she bolted faster than a rabbit, disappearing in seconds.

Tracy sighed, then turned to see Gary patiently waiting. With no way out, she forced herself to nod. “Alright, let’s go.”

Gary gestured politely for her to walk ahead, then after a moment said gently, as though sensing her unease, “Ms. Xander, there’s no need to be nervous. Today’s transfer went so smoothly because Mr. Johnson intervened.”

Tracy blinked in surprise. “What?”

“Normally, a transaction of that size would take a day or two to clear. Because Mr. Johnson stepped in, the bank waived the usual process.”

No wonder everything had gone so easily. So Sean had been helping her from the shadows.

Her heart gave a nervous thud.

Inside the café, soft music drifted in the air. Sean sat by the window, dressed once again in black, sunlight gilding his profile, making it look almost unreal.

Tracy inhaled deeply, trying to steady herself as she followed Gary in.

“Mr. Johnson, Ms. Xander has arrived,” Gary announced respectfully.

Tracy hurried to greet him with a smile. “Mr. Johnson.”

Sean lifted his gaze, nodded slightly, then gestured to the seat across from him. “Sit.”

Gary quietly excused himself, leaving them alone.

Tracy perched uneasily on the edge of her chair, her hands awkward in her lap.

A server came by. “What would you like to drink, miss?”

“Juice, please. Thank you.” She forced another polite smile.

As the server walked away, she sat up straighter, feeling even stiffer.

Sean’s brow creased faintly. “You’re nervous to see me?”

“No.”

Feigning calm, Tracy placed her hands on the table, but her eyes darted away, unable to meet his steady gaze.

Soon their drinks arrived-coffee for him, juice for her.

Sean stirred his cup with elegant ease. “You’re preparing for a divorce?”

Tracy froze, then nodded. “Yes.”

“Do you need help?”

“No.” She looked up, meeting his eyes for a fleeting second. “But thank you. Without things wouldn’t have gone so smoothly today.”

“No need.”

Her phone rang then. She glanced at the screen-it was the real estate agency she had contacted days ago. She picked up with Sean sitting right there.

furnished and move-in ready. When would you like to come see it?”

“Alright,” Tracy agreed.

After hanging up, Sean’s dark eyes rested on her. “You’re buying a place?”

She sipped her juice, then nodded. “Yes.”

Divorce meant she would need her own roof overhead.

“Tracy.”

She lifted her gaze, puzzled.

“If you run into trouble, call me.” Sean unlocked his phone, pulled up his WhatsApp, and slid it across. “Let’s exchange contacts.”

She hesitated, the refusal on the tip of her tongue. But one look into his deep, fathomless eyes, and the words stuck.

Seeing her hesitation, Sean added quietly, “You don’t need to feel burdened. I’m only looking after you for your uncle’s sake.”
