Chandler knew Tracy had been sulking for the past two days. Today was the weekend, their wedding anniversary, so he had pushed aside work to come home and spend time with her.

He hadn’t expected her to be so ungrateful, still trying to cause trouble. His patience with her was already gone.

“It’s not me making a scene…” Tracy’s gaze was calm, her heart long emptied of any ripples. She stood and gave a faint smile. “I’m allergic to mango. Not only did you forget, you even bought a mango cake for our anniversary?”

Chandler froze for a moment, then said in a low voice, “It’s just a cake. If you don’t like it, we’ll switch it.”

Tracy gave a small tug at the corner of her lips. She shouldn’t have bothered reasoning with someone like him. They say the small details reveal a person’s character-she couldn’t agree

more.

If his heart had already strayed, how could she still expect him to remember what she liked? She’d been too naïve.

She had no interest in arguing further. She rose and headed upstairs. There was nothing worth saying to the shameless.

Chandler watched her retreating back and instantly lost his appetite. He tossed the cake into the trash and called Jennie to clean up the mess.

An afternoon’s preparations, a carefully arranged candlelit dinner-all ruined, ending in silence.

Jennie came out and was stunned. Mr. Chandler had prepared a surprise for Ms. Tracy; she had thought the two would reconcile.

But what was this?

The house was well insulated, so she hadn’t heard what was said outside. She had no idea what had happened.

Looking at the untouched food and the cake now lying in the trash, Jennie asked Chandler, puzzled, “Sir, did you and Ms. Tracy argue again?”

Chandler rubbed his brow wearily. “No.”

Oh-so it must be Ms. Tracy throwing another tantrum. That was Jennie’s conclusion. Tracy’s temper was getting worse, flaring up every few days. Truly exhausting.

After showering, Tracy came downstairs for water. The table was already cleared. She poured herself a glass and drank a few mouthfuls.

Then she walked to the coffee table, tore off the July 7th page from the calendar, and dropped it into the trash.

She got another glass of water, then went upstairs to continue working on her speech draft.

The next day was Thursday. Tracy got up early and went into the kitchen to cook oatmeal for herself.

1

Jennie assumed Tracy was only up so early because she’d gone too far the night before- making breakfast was her way of showing sincerity, a kind of apology to Mr. Chandler.

So she thought nothing of it. Seeing Tracy busy in the kitchen, Jennie left early to shop for groceries.

Having stayed up late drafting her speech, Tracy yawned as she worked.

But lately her stomach pain had been more frequent. She felt she needed to eat more foods. that soothed the stomach, so she had risen early to make oatmeal.

Just as she placed the steaming bowl on the table, Chandler came downstairs.

He saw Tracy with the bowl and assumed she had gotten up early to make porridge for him, an apology for last night.

But as soon as she set the bowl down, she plopped herself into a chair and started blowing on it before taking small bites.

Chandler’s eyes darkened. Without a word, he turned and went back upstairs. Shortly after, he came down again with his briefcase.

Tracy never once looked at him. It was as if he were invisible, as if she couldn’t even see him.

She could sulk endlessly, and only he would tolerate her petty moods. Chandler left with his briefcase, face grim, and headed out the door.

Tracy finished her breakfast, grabbed her car keys, and also left soon after.

Monday’s workload was heavy. At the office, Tracy threw herself into it. Aside from lunch and a short break, she worked straight through until the end of the day. 2

Massaging her sore temples, she let out a long breath, shut off her computer, and picked up her bag.

Remembering the symposium tomorrow, she wrote a leave slip and went to knock on Mr. Felix’s office door.

“Come in,” came his voice.

Tracy stepped inside with a smile, handing him the note. “I need to take tomorrow off. I hope you’ll approve.”

Mr. Felix glanced at it. Assuming it was medical leave, he didn’t think twice before signing.

Leaving his office, Tracy felt lighthearted. With her bag in hand, she clocked out for the day.

Her draft speech still wasn’t finished. She planned to work on it at home, adding the new ideas that had come to her today.

In the underground parking garage, as the elevator doors opened, Tracy saw Quinton leaning against her car, smoking.

She walked over and noticed Chandler’s car nearby, him slouched in the back seat, apparently resting.

When Quinton spotted her, he quickly stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it into the trash.

Then he stepped forward, blocking her path. “A project’s run into problems. Mr. Gaunt’s been working nonstop and only just found time to rest. Please don’t disturb him.”

In his mind, Mr. Gaunt already had more than enough stress handling the company’s issues. On top of that, he had to deal with the boss’s wife.

Not only did she fail to help, she caused endless trouble. The boss must be exhausted.

Tracy gave Quinton a glance, not interested in arguing, and tried to sidestep him to reach her

car.

But he blocked her again. “Please don’t make things difficult for me. Just leave quickly, don’t
