Tracy sat down, spine straight, hands folded neatly on her lap like a student facing her teacher.

Professor Martin studied her posture and gave a kind smile before asking, “How long have you had these stomach pains?”

She lowered her eyes, thinking hard, but couldn’t quite remember when they had first begu It felt like forever.

Hesitant, she admitted, “I don’t really remember…”

“That’s alright.” The professor adjusted his reading glasses, scribbled on a form, then tore the page free and handed it to her.

“Take this for testing. Once the results and prescriptions are ready, I’ll have them sent to your home. You can come back for a follow-up in a month.”

Tracy accepted the slip. “Alright, thank you, doctor.”

Her eyes fell on the words: endoscopic biopsy. She sighed softly, turned, and started for the door.

“Wait a moment.” Professor Martin called after her. “Young lady, medication isn’t the only thing that matters. Your mental and emotional health are just as important. Stay away from people and things that bring you pain. It will do you good.”

Tracy paused, then smiled faintly. “I understand. Thank you for the reminder.”

She would soon be free of the misery anyway. From now on, she would focus on her career. No more chasing after that farce called love.

The endoscopic biopsy was unpleasant, but compared to the gastric puncture she’d endured before, it was easier. Afterward, she was helped into the hallway to rest for half an hour. Gary went off to handle her discharge papers.

By the time she was back on her feet, the discomfort had eased somewhat, and Gary drove her home.

Jennie hurried to greet her at the door, taking her things. “You’re finally back! You don’t know how much Mr. Chandler has been thinking of you. He said you weren’t feeling well and went on vacation to relax. Did you have fun?”

Tracy’s lips tugged into a wry smile. “I had a great time.”

Vacation? Chandler really could say anything, couldn’t he.

He hadn’t cared enough to visit her in the hospital. Instead, he told Jennie she’d gone away for leisure. Shameless.

But she didn’t care anymore. If she still cared, the anger would eat her alive. She had spent two days lying in a hospital bed, realizing that in the face of life and death, nothing else really mattered.

From now on, she would love herself, and stay far away from that despicable pair.

“That’s good,” Jennie said cheerfully, carrying the things inside. If Tracy was happy, maybe sh wouldn’t fight with Chandler anymore.

As Jennie turned back toward the kitchen, Tracy called after her. “Jennie, I don’t have much appetite at lunch. Just make me some snacks.”

“Alright.” Jennie nodded.

Tracy walked to the sofa, bent down, and tore off the past few days’ pages from the calendar. She ripped down the one for the eleventh too.

Another day gone. Nineteen days left.

Jennie brought out the snacks later. Tracy drank quietly, then went upstairs for her nap.

By mid-afternoon, Sam called. “Tracy, our company ran into a problem. I think only you can

solve it.”

“I’m free. I just got discharged this morning. Tell me,” she said at once.

Her voice still carried fatigue, but her mind was sharp. The moment the discussion turned to work, she felt strength return to her.

Sam sounded apologetic. “Sorry to trouble you when you’re still supposed to be resting.”

“It’s fine. I’ve rested enough. What’s the issue?”

He explained the problem, and Tracy calmly analyzed it, laying out several solutions step by step.

When she finished, Sam let out a breath and laughed. “I knew it. With you back, half our problems disappear. I’m looking forward to your return-we’ll finally be able to work less overtime.”

“I’m looking forward to it too.”

They talked for over an hour without realizing it. By the time they finished, it was nearly four.

Tracy then opened her laptop. Three days away had left her inbox overflowing. She read each email carefully, replying one by one, even adding annotations where necessary.

By the time she finished, night had fallen. The clock read seven-thirty. She stretched, grabbed her cup, and headed downstairs.

Jennie met her with a warm smile, holding a bowl. “Ms. Tracy, since you had no appetite at lunch, I made more snacks for you. Drink it while it’s hot.”

Tracy thanked her and sipped slowly.

Just then, the front door opened. Chandler returned, suit jacket hanging from his shoulders, weariness etched across his brow.

Seeing Tracy, he didn’t say anything. Jennie hurried to take his briefcase.

“Sir, Ms. Tracy just got back this morning. She had no appetite, so I made her snacks.”

“Mm.” Chandler didn’t care enough to look.

Jennie went to the kitchen to serve dinner.

The table was full of dishes, but Tracy had no appetite. She ate a few bites, then set her chopsticks down. When she rose from the table, Chandler came in from the hall. Their eyes didn’t meet. They passed each other as if they were strangers.

She carried her half-finished snacks toward the kitchen. Jennie came out, frowning when she saw how little was gone. “Ms. Tracy, are you feeling unwell? You barely touched it.”

“I’m fine. It’s just the heat. I don’t feel like eating.”

Jennie worried aloud, “You’ve been eating so little lately. Maybe it’s your stomach. Should we go back to the hospital?”

Tracy froze briefly, then shook her head. “No. I’m fine. Just no appetite.”

Even an outsider could see her stomach wasn’t right, but her husband acted blind.

She suddenly remembered how, years ago, whenever she had stomach pain, Chandler would fuss over her endlessly, begging her to take her medicine.

Now, all that tenderness had disappeared. His heart was already with someone else.

And all she could do was let go, end this marriage, and free them both.

Jennie lowered her gaze, then suddenly looked up, eyes lighting. “I’ve heard women lose their appetites when they’re pregnant. Ma’am, could you be pregnant?”

Tracy blinked, startled by the suggestion. Pregnant?

When she didn’t answer, Jennie took her silence for uncertainty. “Maybe you should buy a test, just to check.”

Tracy came back to herself and waved it off. “No need. I know my own body.”
