Chapter 36 If We Take Legal Action, You Will Have to Pay Damages
Jennie finished applying the medication to Tracy. Looking at her swollen left instep, she figured Tracy wouldn’t be able to wear shoes for few days.
“Madam Tracy, don’t let your foot touch water for the next few days. You probably can’t wear shoes, so you might as well take some leave and rest at home.”
Tracy looked at the burst blisters. The scalding pain radiating from her instep made her feel miserable.
She actually wanted to rest, but the Gaunt family certainly wouldn’t allow her that opportunity.
She had hit Renee. Given the Gaunt family’s fierce protectiveness of their own, they would soon come looking to settle the score.
Jennie got Tracy a new cup, filled it with water, and took her upstairs.
Just as Tracy expected, Hailey’s call came through quickly. Tracy looked at the vibrating phone on her bedside table, but made no move to answer it.
When the phone rang again, Tracy simply turned it off. She opened her computer and continued yesterday’s studies.
At eleven o’clock that night, Tracy was half-asleep when she heard the sound of the door opening.
Snap, the wall lamp was switched on. Tracy blinked against the light, seeing Chandler return.
Chandler placed his coat aside and asked, “Why did you hit Renee today?”
She felt dizzy, her throat was intensely dry, and her body temperature seemed a bit high.
Was she running a fever?
She tugged at her cracked lips, only to find her voice was hoarse and she couldn’t speak.
He walked to the bedside, looking down at her, Tracy, there’s a limit to throwing tantrums. Not only did you hit Renee, but you’re too guilty to answer Mom’s calls. Do you think you can cover up your wrongdoing this way?”
Tracy ignored Chandler. Feeling miserable, she turned her body away from him with difficulty, presenting her back.

Even if she tried to argue, he wouldn’t believe her, so she might as well save her energy.
She instinctively felt her forehead. It was hot. She was probably running a fever now. Swallowing was difficult; her throat felt like it was pierced with needles.
Seeing Tracy’s behavior, Chandler assumed she was still angry. He said sternly, “You can cause all the trouble you want outside, I won’t interfere, but you shouldn’t have hit Renee. You must apologize to her tomorrow. Don’t think silence means everything’s fine. If you don’t apologize, I will pursue the issue of your negligence. Because of your personal mistake, you caused the company millions in losses. If we pursue this legally, you will have to compensate the company for its damages.”
Hearing the threat of compensation, Tracy forced a slight smile, saying with difficulty, “Fine. Then let’s take legal action and let the police investigate whose fault it really was.”
If it wasn’t her problem, she wouldn’t admit it, and if it wasn’t her mistake, she wouldn’t apologize.
Renee was clearly the one who had physically harmed her first, yet Chandler was blind to it, seeing only her flaws.
They wanted to use this to force me to bow down and apologize to Renee? Never!
She could also use this opportunity to clear her name regarding the corporate loss.
A flicker of contempt crossed Chandler’s eyes. He picked up his coat and turned to leave, “Suit yourself!”
Hearing the door close, Tracy felt even more dizzy, and her body temperature seemed to be soaring.
If Chandler had spared her one more glance, he would have noticed her condition, but he hadn’t.
Or maybe even if he saw it, he would think she was faking it. Perhaps, in his eyes, her life or death wasn’t worth a thought.
She drifted back into a heavy, confused sleep.
In a daze, Tracy seemed to answer a call. She didn’t know who it was; she only managed a faint “Hello” before slipping back into unconsciousness.
When she woke up again, the sharp smell of disinfectant hit her nose. She turned her head with difficulty and looked out the window. It looked like dawn was breaking.
At that moment, a pale hand reached over and checked her forehead, “Thank goodness the fever is down. You scared me half to death! Luckily, I was drinking last night and called you

to pick me up. You didn’t make a sound, so I felt uneasy and decided to check on you. I never expected you to actually be sick. You were running a fever and kept crying out in pain, but wouldn’t say where it hurt. I was so panicked I immediately called 911 and rushed you to the hospital.”
She remembered rushing into Chandler’s house. The housekeeper looked surprised until she found Tracy, who was feverish and confused, crying out in pain.
The housekeeper then realized the seriousness of the situation and immediately called 911. She recalled the housekeeper calling Chandler several times, but the scumbag didn’t answer.
Thinking of this, Natalie’s anger flared. That damn jerk, having a secret rendezvous with his mistress while his wife was almost dying, and he wouldn’t even answer the phone!
The moment Tracy saw Natalie, her scalp tingled. She didn’t know if Natalie knew about her cancer, and she was so nervous her palms started sweating.
Perhaps it was because the fever had just broken, but Tracy felt weak and her eyelids were heavy.
She fluttered her eyes open, pulled at her cracked lips, and managed to utter a few difficult words, “I want water.”
Natalie quickly got up, poured a glass of water, gently helped her sit up, and gave her the
water.
After drinking the warm water, Tracy felt a little better, but her energy was still low, and she still looked listless.
After setting the cup down, Natalie tucked the blanket around Tracy and sighed, “After I got you to the hospital, I used your phone to call Chandler. Guess how he reacted? That jerk actually said you were acting up again’ and told you to stop causing trouble, or he’d make you pay up. Oh my god, being a husband like that is beyond belief. You were burning up and unconscious, and he still said you were faking i
The angrier Natalie got, the more she ranted, “He treats you like this just because he’s hooked up with Yvonne! It’s utterly outrageous. I wish I could rush over there right now and beat him up! It’s so infuriating!”
After venting, Natalie looked worriedly at Tracy Seeing her expression was normal, she finally relaxed.
Tracy’s voice was hoarse and sharp, “My divorce cooling-off period with him is almost over.”
Her meaning was clear: they would be divorced soon, and whatever Chandler did wouldn’t concern her anymore.

But if it touched her interests, she would fight him all the way. She refused to believe that someone who did so many wrongs could be lucky enough never to slip up.
Natalie held Tracy’s slender hand and suddenly exclaimed, “Tracy, didn’t they feed you at his house? How did you get so thin?”
Tracy instinctively pulled her hand back. Judging by Natalie’s reaction, she still didn’t know about the stomach cancer.
Good. She didn’t want too many people to know and worry about her. The tension she had been holding finally eased.
Just then, a doctor approached. He was a young emergency physician. Seeing that Tracy was awake, he knocked and entered.
“You’re awake. What’s your temperature now? Has the fever broken?”
Remembering the sight of Tracy last night, Natalie was still shaken. She asked the doctor anxiously, “Doctor, her fever is gone, but she still looks weak. Could there be something else wrong?”
The young doctor adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose, “There are indeed other…”
