Chapter 68 What Kind of Man Stabs Someone in the Back?

The cemetery was located in the western suburbs of Northport, far from the clamor of the city. It was very quiet here. The light ringing of wind chimes added to the solemnity. Rows of black tombstones stood here, creating a sense of forgotten coldness.

Tracy quickly found her mother’s tombstone. Seeing her black and white photo, all her accumulated grievances surged up, and Tracy’s tears immediately flowed. Whether it was from not eating or from Chase’s anger, she felt a throbbing pain in her stomach.

Placing the flowers in front of the tombstone, Tracy cleared the surrounding weeds, then leaned weakly against the headstone. The rain gradually became lighter. Tracy threw away the umbrella. The icy rain beat down on her thin clothes, making her shiver.

But the coldness of her body was nothing compared to the coldness in her heart. She shed all her pretenses. Her usual strength and composure collapsed at this moment. Her tears fell like strings of broken pearls as she recounted her recent experiences to her mother.

With the throbbing pain in her stomach, Tracy pulled out her pill bottle and swallowed a tablet dry. Suppressing the bitterness in her mouth, she leaned weakly against the tombstone and continued to voice her grievances to her mother.

When the sky completely darkened, Tracy left the cemetery. It was difficult to hail a cab here, so she walked to the nearby bus stop. Tracy took out a container of oats she had packed from downstairs. After returning home, she ate a few bites and lost her appetite. Feeling a heaviness in her body, she took a shower and went to bed.

In the middle of the night, Tracy woke up vaguely, feeling dizzy and intensely feverish. Her mouth was extremely dry. I must have a fever again. Her health was deteriorating rapidly. Just a little rain, and I catch a cold and a fever. I’m too fragile.

She slowly took out her phone and checked the ime; it was already midnight. She pushed back the covers to get out of bed, wanting to pour a glass of water. She didn’t have any fever reducers at her new place, so all she could do was drink more water. Because her body was so hot and her head so dizzy, her hand shook as she held the cup.

She lost her grip for a moment, and with a “smack,” the cup fell to the floor, making a sharp, shattering sound. She instinctively bent down to pick up the pieces, but in her haste, a sharp shard cut her finger. She gasped softly, quickly covered her injured finger, and bit her lip, feeling helpless.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door. She looked at the door not far away. Who could it be in the middle of the night?

After the dizzy spell slightly subsided, Tracy slowly walked over and opened the door. A tall figure stood at the entrance. Since the light inside wasn’t on, the man stood in the

backlighting, his outline hidden in the dimness of the sound-activated light, adding a sense of mystery.

Sean entered, extended a long, slender hand, and turned on the wall lamp. “Why weren’t the lights on?”

When he saw Tracy covering her finger, and noticed the blood on her hand, he subtly frowned. “You’re hurt?”

Tracy instinctively tried to hide her injured finger behind her back, but Sean grabbed her wrist. As he touched her wrist, Sean felt her intense heat and instinctively reached to touch her forehead.

“You have a fever?” Sean looked at her, his dark eyes solemn. “Tracy, aren’t you afraid of dying? You’re burning up like this and you haven’t gone to the hospital.” She was a little stunned by the scolding, staring blankly at Sean Why is he more anxious than me when I’m the one who’s sick?

Sean picked up Tracy without question and started walking toward the door. “I’m taking you to the hospital.”

Tracy instinctively struggled. “I can walk myself. But Sean gave her a look. Although the look was placid, Tracy clearly felt the pressure. She shrank her neck and allowed Sean to carry her to the underground parking garage.

At the hospital

The cold had triggered a cold, and combined with her low immunity from the anti-cancer medication, Tracy’s condition was worse than usual. After a battery of tests, Tracy was exhausted. Lying on the emergency room bed, Her eyelids were already drooping.

A commotion arose outside the door. Tracy suddenly heard several familiar voices.

“Yvonne’s foot suddenly hurts terribly. Hurry and call the doctor to come look.”

“How is Yvonne? Why does it hurt so badly? Should we have the doctor run some tests?”

“I also think it’s necessary to run some tests. Although the doctor said it’s just a sprain and nothing serious, to be safe, let’s get a check-up tomorrow so we can be at ease.”

“Stop talking, let’s worry about tomorrow later. Right now, hurry and call the doctor to come examine Yvonne!”

Hearing the footsteps fade away, Tracy only felt a bitter irony. So Chase came to accompany Yvonne. No wonder his attitude toward her was so bad. A simple twisted ankle could make the entire Xander family hover by her side, yet here she was, close to dying, and no one came to care about her. I am the one with family who might as well be alone.

At this moment, she felt only desolation.

Just then, Sean, having settled the payment, came in with the receipt. Soon after, a nurse also came in to give Tracy a shot to reduce the fever and then started an IV drip.

Tracy closed her eyes wearily and said to Sean, Sean, I’m truly sorry for troubling you again this time. Please send me the payment receipt later; I’ll transfer the amount to you.”

Sean did not respond to Tracy’s words, but instead poured her a glass of water. “The doctor said you need to drink a lot of water now. Get up and have some first.” Tracy had little strength, so she drank several sips of water from Sean’s hand. Only then did her throat feel better. He put the cup down and considerately tucked her into the blankets. “Go to sleep. You’ll be better after a good rest.”

Tracy’s eyelids felt heavy, and she immediately closed her eyes, quickly falling asleep.

When she woke up again, it was already morning. She subconsciously touched her forehead -the fever was gone. She didn’t see Sean, so Tracy naturally assumed he had left. She felt much better now; the fever was down, and there was no need to stay in the hospital.

She threw back the covers and got out of bed. As she reached the door, she heard the conversation outside again, still the voices of the Xander family members.

“Tracy has gone too far this time. She deliberately targeted Yvonne, causing Yvonne distress, which led to her fall. You need to figure out a way; we can’t let Tracy be so arrogant!”

“I don’t think Tracy has the capability to easily ruin such an important partnership that was already within our grasp.”

“Even now, you’re still defending Tracy? Maybe he doesn’t have the capability, but Sam does!”

“Are you saying that Tracy and Sam are involved, and the first people she wants to target are us, the Xander family?”

Tracy didn’t listen to the rest of the conversation, because she had already opened the door to the ward. She leaned against the doorframe, her pale face looking slightly sickly. She sneered, “Why don’t you say what you have to say directly to my face? What kind of man stabs someone in the back?”
