Tracy’s eyes were red with emotion. She didn’t know how to express the gratitude swelling in her heart. Thousands of words reached her lips but couldn’t be spoken. Finally, they became a hug. Tracy embraced her aunt, and the redness around her eyes became even more noticeable.

Tracy nodded. “I know. It’s so good to have you all.” The reason she hadn’t told them about the divorce was twofold: first, she was afraid of worrying them, and second, she was afraid they would object and advise her to reconcile. They were the only relatives in the world who were truly good to her, so she didn’t want to constantly make them worry about everything.
The few of them chatted with Tracy for a while longer before a doctor came in to check on her. After asking some basic questions, Jackson was still uneasy and followed the doctor out.
In the hallway, Jackson asked the doctor, “Doctor, how is my sister’s condition?”
The doctor glanced at Sean, who was standing behind Jackson, and said, “It’s just a common cold. She can be discharged after two days of observation.” Tracy, feeling uneasy, walked to the doorway. She was afraid the doctor might reveal her cancer diagnosis. When she heard the doctor’s words, the stone hanging in her heart finally dropped.
Sean turned around, looked at Tracy in the doorway, and walked toward her with his long strides. “You don’t trust me that much?” The young woman’s guard was high. She seemed strong, but her heart was actually very fragile. Since no one cared for her for so long, she had grown a full set of defensive thorns. Her thorns wounded others but also hurt herself. She seemed easygoing with everyone, yet she didn’t truly trust anyone.
Tracy, whose thoughts had been exposed, felt embarrassed. She quickly lowered her head, nervously intertwining her hands.
Jackson returned after talking to the doctor. Seeing Tracy standing at the door, he reminded her, “You haven’t recovered from your cold yet. You should go lie down inside. We have to go to work. I’ll let my mom come down and take care of you.”
