Tracy knew Sean was only saying this because he cared about her; he had even made a special trip back just to persuade her.

It was very thoughtful of him.

At this thought, Tracy looked up into Sean’s dark, solemn eyes. “I’m not giving up this time. I will be in Sea City on Monday for the exhibition

Hearing Tracy say this, Sean’s expression finally softened. He glanced at his watch.

He asked Tracy in a gentle tone, “Do you want to go out and eat together?”

“No, that’s okay. I can cook for myself,” Tracy replied, shaking her head.

Going out to eat with Sean was too conspicuous and would bring her unnecessary trouble.

It was better to avoid complications. She would just eat at home-it was clean, hygienic, and she could make whatever she wanted.

“What are you afraid of?” Sean’s thin lips curled into a sarcastic smile. “What? Still afraid of running into your ex-husband and the other woman? Do you think avoidance works?”

“Where did the fearless Tracy of the past go? Did that last marriage take your brain, too?”

He remembered the Tracy from five years ago well; she had been incredibly bold. Back then, she wasn’t afraid of him at all.

You could even say she often bullied him. Not only did she challenge him with her professional knowledge, but she also treated him informally in other ways.

She used to hover around him all day, and if he didn’t meet her demands, she would just link her arm with his and act coy.

The Tracy back then was youthful, beautiful, lively, and cheerful. Now, only five years later, seeing her again, she was a different person.

No matter what she encountered, she maintained a calm and composed appearance. And though she seemed easygoing, she was actually extremely guarded deep down.

He didn’t know what she had gone through in the past five years. Although he had looked into her background after returning to the country, that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Tracy pressed her lips together and explained in a low voice, “I’m not afraid of running into Chandler and the others. I have no feelings left for them.”

“Even if I see them, I won’t have any leftover emotions. I can face them calmly.”

What a joke. If she still held out hope for them, she must have a death wish.

After all, during the one-month cooling-off period for the divorce, her illness had nearly progressed to the late stage.

She wasn’t a masochist, expecting anything more from them. In this world, no one was incapable of living without someone else.

An imperceptible smile touched Sean’s lips. “Since you’re not afraid, let’s go.”

Tracy was speechless.

Wait, why did she feel like she had just been tricked?

Following Sean out of the car, Tracy saw Chandler and Yvonne getting out of their car not far

away.

Hadn’t Yvonne gone traveling with the Xander family? Why was she here?

Was she back already?

Just as Tracy was wondering, two more people got out of a car up ahead. It was the two Xander family brothers.

Their grandmother was sick, yet they had time to go traveling instead of coming back to see her. Now, they had time to come out and fool around.

How truly ironic.

Sean’s deep voice suddenly came from above her. “You were willing to give up the exhibition invitation for your grandmother, but look at them. They’re acting like nothing’s wrong, doing whatever they please.”

The girl was still too soft-hearted. Normally, being soft-hearted toward family was a sign of kindness.

But the Xander family couldn’t even be called human, so one couldn’t use normal logic to gauge their thoughts.

Tracy pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

She tried hard to tell herself not to get angry. Besides worsening her condition, anger was useless.

Sean put his arm around her shoulder, turning her body to face him, and asked, “Want to go over there and vent?”

Tracy looked up at him. “Do you have a way?”

She had wanted to do this for a long time, ever since the anniversary of her mother’s death. She had been looking for a chance to let off some steam.

Just because she hadn’t found an opportunity didn’t mean she accepted their actions or wouldn’t hold them accountable for their misdeeds.

Sean looked at her with deep, dark eyes. “Take my arm, and I’ll take you inside. You can do whatever you want, and I’ll back you up. How about it?”

Jared had asked him to meet today through Gary. He hadn’t wanted to go originally, but after thinking about it, he had Gary accept.

Tracy looked at Sean, hesitant. Of course, she knew that having him there would make things much easier.

No matter how far she went, those people would just have to take it. They would never dare to confront Sean.

But was this really okay?

Just as she was agonizing over it, Sean’s voice came from above her again. “What? Scared?”

Tracy pressed her lips together. She now strongly suspected that Sean was using reverse psychology to force her hand.

But no matter how she looked at it, she was the one who stood to gain the most from this dinner.

Sean, arguably, got nothing out of it. She didn’t know what he was after by helping her like this.

But regardless of what he was after, Tracy would go along with it. She knew that if she missed this chance, another one would be hard to come by.
