Quincy scoffed and continued applying her lipstick, clearly not taking Tracy’s words to heart.
Tracy couldn’t be bothered with her. Quincy was too arrogant and looked down on everyone. It was exasperating.
She’d just wait and see if Quincy could maintain this attitude when the police arrived.
Just as she stepped out of the washroom, she heard the phone in Quincy’s bag ring. Quincy picked it up, and Tracy couldn’t hear what was said on the other end.
She only heard Quincy, her voice breaking, say, Mom, I just started working in Northport. I really don’t have any money right now. Can’t I send it to you after I get paid? What? You want to buy my brother a car? Mom, how old is he? What does he need a car for? Besides, where am I supposed to get that much money? I’m your child too! You can’t be this biased. You’re trying to bleed me dry for my brother. It’s not fair!”
Standing at the doorway listening to Quincy’s hysterical sobs, Tracy felt grateful that she had a good mother and had grown up surrounded by love.
She didn’t feel sorry for Quincy. After all, the saying goes that pitiful people often have their own unlikable traits. Being in a bad situation didn’t give Quincy an excuse to lash out at others.
Besides, it was Quincy’s parents who owed her, not Tracy. She wasn’t going to put up with her awful attitude.
When Quincy composed herself and came out, she saw Tracy standing at the door.
She froze for several seconds. Why was Tracy still here? How much of that phone call with her mom had she overheard?
She couldn’t believe Tracy had seen her at her most vulnerable and helpless moment. She couldn’t even find the words to describe her feelings.
She nervously adjusted her designer clothes, her voice laced with anger. “Tracy, how much did you hear?”
Tracy admitted it freely. “I heard all of it. What? You didn’t want me to? Too bad, I did. Quincy, sometimes I really don’t get you. Your own life is clearly a mess, so why do you still mock other people? If everyone was like you-miserable, and unable to stand seeing anyone else happy-imagine how terrifying that would be. Don’t you think?”
She knew the Ginger family favored sons over daughters. She had just thought that after all these years, they might have changed.

She never expected they would actually get worse, trying to force Quincy into sacrificing everything for her brother. It was a terrifying thought.
Quincy snorted, lashing out from the humiliation. “What do you know? My brother wants to buy a car. As his older sister, what’s wrong with the helping him? And when did I say my life was bad? Look at you, Tracy. Being abandoned by your husband doesn’t feel good, does it? You know Chandler doesn’t love you anymore,et you keep clinging to him. What’s the point? I have no idea what Sam and Sean see in you, defending you like this. But don’t get smug. The harder you laugh now, the harder you’ll cry when you get abandoned. I’m just waiting to watch it happen.”
Yep. One side was willing to abuse, and the other was willing to take it. This mindset of sacrificing everything for her brother was bone-deep. She was a lost cause.
Tracy instantly felt like she had overstepped. Fine. Her mistake. She shouldn’t have even tried to reason with someone like that.
You just can’t reason with shameless people.
She turned and left the washroom. As she reached the corner, a large hand grabbed her wrist.
She looked up and saw it was Jared. He had been drinking, and the strong smell of alcohol was heavy on him.
It looked like he was here to confront her. She had expected this to happen, just not so soon.
He hadn’t even given her a chance to breathe before coming after her. But she wasn’t going to be afraid of him.
Tracy’s lips curled into a cold smile. “What? Here to demand justice for your precious sister already?”
Tracy had known for a long time that thanks to Yvonne and her mother’s manipulations, her two older brothers disliked her. In fact, they seemed to detest her.
In the past, she had still deliberately tried to win them over. The only result was that the more she said, the more she was wrong, and the more she did, the more she was wrong.
It seemed that no matter what she said or did, it was wrong in their eyes.
Because she understood that, she eventually stopped being polite to them, causing their relationship to grow even more strained.
