Chapter 429
Verena watched Leo cautiously, worried that he would lose his temper again. “Leo, what do we do now?”
Leo put his phone away, his gaze turning icy.
“What else can we do? As long as Victor doesn’t go back to Vrufield, all this gossip won’t really affect him.”
The Blanchard family was still mad at them, and it was likely they still had other things up their sleeves.
Leo didn’t dare make any rash moves now, lest the other party still had other evidence. “Let them blow off some steam. It’s probably for the best.”
After he finished speaking, Leo looked at Verena with undisguised disgust.
He blamed her entirely for not disciplining Victor firmly enough, which led to the current mess.
Verena chewed her lip nervously before protesting, “But Victor is supposed to take over you one day. If we don’t get this gossip under control, he will never be able to hold his head high in society.”
In reality, Verena had far loftier ambitions.
Now that Daron was incapacitated, Leo was the only possible successor to inherit the old man’s fortune.
She had seen firsthand how Leo treated Victor. Sooner or later, Victor would be the one to inherit most of the Zamora family’s empire.
That was why Verena was so desperate to protect Victor’s reputation now. She wanted to build a firm foundation for his future.
Leo gave Verena a frosty glare and warned her, “Right now, we just have to let it die down. The public will forget about this soon.”
Verena wanted to say more, but Leo’s impatient glare made her swallow her words.
She had no choice but to keep her mouth shut.
After a short silence, Leo instructed her sternly, “Watch him closely during this period, you hear me? If he causes any more trouble, I won’t let him off.”
With that, Leo grabbed his suit jacket and got ready to leave.
Verena hurried after him and asked frantically, “Leo, where are you going?”
Leo stopped in his tracks and snarled at her ferociously. “I’m going to check how big a mess Victor has made for me!”
Verena clammed up at once and didn’t pester him anymore,
After leaving the office, Leo headed straight for the hospital.
Marina and Bette had already made their way back to the hospital. At present, they were having a meal with Daron in his VIP
suite.
Daron still had a bandage wrapped around his head. His fractured right arm was encased in a cast.
He tried to feed himself with his left hand, but kept failing to get the food into his mouth.

Daron didn’t make a fuse. He meekly allowed her to do whatever she wanted.
Marina picked up the spoon and bowl and started feeding him carefully,
Still puzzled. Bette watched closely. When she realized that Daron was enjoying the pampering with undisguised glee, she felt downright disgusted.
She finally understood what he was up to.
Baron was scheming to gain Marina’s sympathy so that she would pamper him…
Daron sneaked a gloating side glance at Bette. “What? Jealous?”
Bette narrowed her eyes and decided to squeal on him without mercy. “When Daron was a kid, he used to eat with his left hand all the time. He was a leftie all along. He was pretending just now to make you pity him and feed him!”
Marina froze for a moment before looking at Daron meaningfully. “Is that true?”
Daron wanted to give Bette a warning stare, but Marina caught him in the act.
However, Daron was not one to get cowed easily.
He didn’t even look embarrassed. If anything, he was completely unfazed. “Not true at all. After I got used to using my right hand, I don’t know how to use my left hand anymore.”
Marina nodded as she commented, “Yeah, I’ve heard many lefties who forgot how to use their left hand after they switched to using their right hands.
“But that’s fine. Even if you are still able to use your left hand, I’m still willing to feed you.”
Daron only grinned cheekily at her.
Marina smiled back at him, “So are you still able to use your left hand?”
Daron finally admitted sheepishly, “I can still use it a little.”
Marina pushed the spoon and bowl back to Daron. Then she asked coyly, “Then show me how far you can still use it.” Daron took the spoon and used it like it was second nature to him. There was none of the awkward fumbling from before.
Marina gave him a thoughtful look before turning to Bette. “We still have some stuff to settle, haven’t we? Are you done with your meal?”
Bette nodded. “Yep”
Marina arranged the dishes closer to Daron as she explained, “Bette and I have something to discuss. So you carry on by yourself”

Daron knew then he had been tricked. He gave Marina the most reproachful look he could muster. Didn’t this woman say she would still feed me even if I can still use my left hand? Why did she change her mind so fast?
Bette grinned and leaned her face close to Daron. “Backfired, huh?”
Daron massaged the spot between his eyebrows. “Grandpa sent you here to help me out, not to give me a hard time I’m gonna call him and tell him to order you back.”
Bette burst out laughing. Grandpa told me to help Marina out. He never said anything about cleaning up your mess for you
Daron stared at her with indignation.
Bette laughed out loud again. It had been ages since she joked around with her younger brother like this.
And Daron had not used Grandpa to threaten her for a long time.
The fact was, Daron didn’t have an easy time in the Zamora family all these years.
Right after the accident, Daron had called up Bette and told her about his plan.
Bette was very surprised when she received his call.
All these years, Daron had never contacted her to discuss the Zamora family or their business matters.
This was the first time he had talked to her about his plans.
She had no idea why Daron suddenly did this.
But the moment she answered his call, the conflict between her and Daron that arose because of Hayley and her daughter simply vanished.
No matter what happened, Daron would always be her little brother.
They were born into this world together.
Now that Daron had finally opened up to her, she would definitely do all she could for him.
Bette grinned triumphantly at Daron as she walked past him.
Daron watched her sit down by Marina’s side on the couch to begin their discussion.
Bette was practically glued to Marina. Her eyes never left Marina for a second. Her gaze was so affectionate and almost flirtatious.
Daron tried hard to recall if Bette had ever had any boyfriends all these years.
Then it hit him suddenly. Bette was thirty–two and had never once dated a guy.
Now, as he observed the way Bette was looking at Marina, alarm bells started going off in Daron’s mind…
