Chapter 433
As soon as Daron got back to Vrufield, he’d be laser–focused on taking down the Zamora family’s second branch.
Matthew had finally gotten his hands on real power, and there was no way

that easily.
Leo’s schemes were all written plain as day in his eyes.
“I’ll put the money Victor spent back into the company’s account,” Leo said.
Leo figured that since Daron cared so much about his position, he’d definitely be heading back to Vrufield.
To Daron, Victor’s issue was nothing more than a trivial matter.
Leo had already offered to cover the money Victor spent, so he thought Daron wouldn’t make a fuss about it
To Leo’s surprise, Daron didn’t respond at all.
He just sat there, project files in hand, tapping them against the table, looking like he was deep in thought.
Leo watched, feeling his heart jump to his throat.
After a while, Daron set the files down.
Leo gave a slight smirk. “Daron…”
Leo thought Daron putting down the files meant Victor was off the hook, but then, his phone rang.
Daron looked over at him.
Leo, who’d just started to relax, felt his heart leap into his throat again.
He saw it was a call from his bodyguard. His expression shifted, and he picked up right away.
“Sir, we have bad news. Mr Zamora been taken away by the police,” the bodyguard reported.
Leo shot to his feet. “What?”
anymore.
The bodyguard continued, “There were a ton of them. We were afraid Mr Zamora would get hurt, so we didn’t fight back.
“They picked him up on grounds of murder charges,” the bodyguard said, voice tight.
Leo’s gaze snapped to Daron.
Their eyes locked, the air crackling with tension, but Daron remained utterly impassive.
Leo hung up and sank back into his seat.
He met Daron’s gaze, speaking with genuine sincerity.
“Daron, can’t you just let Victor go this once, for my sake?” Leo pleaded.
“I swear, from now on, I’ll make sure Victor never shows up in front of you again,” he added.
Daron met Leo’s gaze, his voice calm and detached. “Why should I let it slide just because you asked? If I ended up in the

hospital today, seriously hurt, would you really have Victor arrested just because we’re family?*
Leo’s face darkened.
Leo definitely wouldn’t. At most, he’d just give Victor a slap on the wrist.
“Daron…” Leo started, but Daron cut him off with a raised hand.
“Don’t waste your breath on me. Just get him a good lawyer,” Daron said.
“Zamora Group’s branch office will also be filing embezzlement charges against Victor, Daron added.

“Murder and embezzlement. Who knows how many years Victor will be behind bars?” Daron mused, his tone icy,
Leo’s face went ghostly pale. Seeing Daron so calm and collected, he realized Daron had never planned to let Victor off the hook.
“The company project. Victor had nothing to do with it. It was all on me,” Leo said, trying to take responsibility himself.
Leo was still trying to cover for Victor, hoping to get him off the hook for some of the charges.
But Daron raised his hand, cutting Leo off before he could finish.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s you or Victor. Both of you will have to stand trial,” Daron said, his voice cold and unwavering.
Leo froze, his face turning to stone.
He’d forgotten that Daron was always ruthless, and he was never one to let feelings cloud his judgment.
Leo shot
up from his seat and walked straight out of Daron’s hospital room.
At the door, he stopped, turned back to Daron, and said, his voice serious, “Daron, things between us could’ve been so much better. But you and your sister both take after your mother too much. Always so stubborn, never willing to compromise, and honestly, it’s just so dull.”
Marina had stayed in the side room, making sure not to interrupt Daron and Leo’s conversation.
But she didn’t expect Leo to cross the line and say something that harsh to Daron.
Marina immediately opened the door and walked out, locking eyes with Leo as she said in a firm tone, “Sir, people who mess up always love to pin the blame on someone else. They never have the guts to admit when they’re wrong.”
“It’s not that others don’t know how to compromise. It’s just that you have no limits and no sense of right or wrong,” she added.
Leo’s expression turned icy, and he walked out stiffly without another word.
Marina watched him leave, frowning slightly, then turned to face Daron.
Daron sat back in his chair, tilting his head up a little to look at her, a small smile playing on his lips.
“You didn’t have to jump in to stand up for me. I’m really okay,” he said.
Over the years, Daron had gotten used to the fact that things with Leo would never be good. He’d learned to live with a life where he had neither a mother’s warmth nor a father’s support.

Marina looked at Daron. Even though he said he was fine, the dull look in his eyes betrayed how he really felt.
She walked over and pulled him into a gentle hug.
Daron stiffened for a moment, caught off guard, but then he reached out, pulled Marina close, and quietly rested his head against her shoulder.
‘Since she’s here for me, he thought, maybe just this once, I can let my guard down a little.
For a brief moment, he allowed himself to show a hint of vulnerability in front of Marina.
When Leo came downstairs, Verena was still busy working the phones, trying every trick she could think of to spring Victor from jail.
She was determined to get Victor out as soon as possible.
But after a few calls, all those powerful families she used to be tight with in Frency weren’t even answering her calls anymore.
Verena was completely lost, and panic was written all over her face when Leo finally walked out of the hospital
Spotting him, Verena hurried over.
“Leo, Victor’s never had it tough, not once in his whole life. Please, you have to find a way to get him out,” she begged, her voice shaking with desperation.
The cops had come in with an arrest warrant.
In Frency, once the police get a warrant, it means they’ve got you dead to rights.
There was no way Daron was just going to let this slide.
Verena was at her wit’s end, her mind spinning with panic. All she could do now was put her faith in Leo.
Leo rubbed his forehead, his face cold and grim. “He’s definitely going to prison. Right now, all we can do is see if we can cut down his sentence.”
Verena’s face went stiff as she listened to Leo, feeling like the whole world was crashing down around her.
“Daron really won’t let Victor go, will he?” she asked, her voice trembling.
“He’s too calculative, just like his mom. Daron was unharmed to begin with. He just faked being sick to get us to let our gu down,” she spat, her voice shaking with anger.
“Victor doesn’t stand a chance against him!” she cried out, her voice breaking.
Leo listened to Verena’s rant, his expression frosty. Right now, he just found her constant complaining unbearable.
“If you knew Victor was no match for Daron, then why did you pit them against each other?” Leo snapped, his voice cold.
“Have you known all along that Victor was embezzling project funds?” he demanded, his tone sharp.
Verena’s eyes flickered with guilt as she listened to Leo.
“Leo, this really isn’t the time to worry about that,” she said, her voice shaky.
