Chapter 106
The night wind was calm, but the undercurrent of danger in the city never truly disappeared.
On the rooftop of a quiet building, two figures stood side by side, looking down at the lights below.
Liora leaned against the railing, her long hair swaying gently in the breeze. Her expression was thoughtful, far from relaxed. Beside her, Smith stood with his hands behind his back, his eyes half- closed as if he was calculating something far beyond what ordinary people could understand.
“It’s done,” Liora said quietly. “I’ve met Adrian. I’ve also met Kai.”
Smith opened his eyes and looked at her, a faint smile appearing on his lips. “You did well. And you used your aura to guide that woman from the ancient line straight to him. That was clever.”
Liora shook her head slightly. “Clever, but risky. If I miscalculated even a little, she could have possessed someone close to him and killed him without anyone noticing.”
Smith’s smile faded a little. “That’s true. But you still chose the most direct path.”
“Because we didn’t have time,” Liora said. “The Elders Pavilion has already started paying attention to Adrian. To them, he’s not just some talented cultivator or doctor. He’s a key piece on their board.”
She turned and looked at Smith. “If that woman from the ancient line had succeeded, it wouldn’t have just been Adrian who suffered. The balance would have been broken again.”
Smith nodded slowly. “And now she’s gone. That’s what matters.”
Liora’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Gone for now. You know her kind better than I do. She won’t truly disappear that easily.”
Smith was silent for a moment before saying, “True. But at least we bought some time.”
They stood there in silence for a few seconds.
Then Smith spoke again. “You’ve already gotten close to Kai. That’s good. Through him, it will be much easier to stay close to Adrian without raising too much suspicion.”
Liora frowned slightly. “You want me to stay here longer?”
Smith shook his head. “No. Not too long. If you stay around Adrian for too long, the Pavilion might query why you took longer than expected.”
“Then what do you suggest?”
Smith’s eyes flashed with a calculating light. “We find a medium. Someone or something that can naturally bring you and Kal together again without making it look arranged.”
Liora immediately understood what he meant. “So that even if I disappear for a while, they won’t find it strange when we meet again.

“Exactly,” Smith said. “And when the time comes, you can say you’re leaving to hunt that ancient spirit that escaped.”
Liora looked at him. “And then I vanish.”
“Yes,” Smith said calmly. “You vanish. And I take over from there.”
Meanwhile, Catherine stood in front of Adrian’s house, hesitating.
She hadn’t told him she was coming.
After what had happened recently, she felt a little uneasy. But the invitation she was holding in her hand was important. And… she also wanted to see him.
She raised her hand and rang the doorbell.
A moment later, the door opened.
To her surprise, it wasn’t Adrian who appeared first.
It was Miss Reyes.
Catherine froze for a second. “Director… Reyes?”
Reyes was also slightly surprised to see her, but her expression quickly returned to its usual calm. “Miss
Catherine.”
Catherine’s mind raced.
Why was Miss Reyes here?
Not at the company.
Not in a meeting room.
But at Adrian’s house.
Before she could say anything else, Adrian walked out from inside.
“Catherine?” He frowned slightly. “Why are you here?”
Her gaze shifted between him and Reyes. “I… I came to look for you. But I didn’t expect Director Reyes to be here.”
She couldn’t help asking, “What… what’s your relationship with her?”
Reyes almost never visited anyone at home. Not even high–level executives. Everyone in the company knew that.
Adrian paused for a brief moment, then said calmly, “We have a business deal. And we’re old acquaintances.”

Reyes nodded slightly, confirming his words without adding anything.
Catherine’s heart felt a little strange, but she didn’t show it.
Then Adrian asked, “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
She quickly said, “I’m sorry. I should have called first.”
She took out the invitation letter she had been holding. “The National Bank is hosting a banquet. Considering you’re now one of the biggest shareholders… and also because we… we’re close, I wanted to invite you personally.”
Adrian raised an eyebrow. “A banquet?”
“Yes,” Catherine said. “But it’s not just a normal banquet. There will be a special event.”
She hesitated for a second, then continued, “There will be a debate. And during it, there will be two items presented. One is real gold. The other is fake.”
“The one who can tell which is real and which is fake… gets to keep the real gold.”
Kai, who had just walked out from the kitchen with a glass of water, almost laughed when he heard that.‘ That’s an interesting way to spend money.”
Catherine smiled awkwardly. “It’s more of a symbolic event. Many big figures will be there.”
Adrian thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. I’ll go.”
Catherine’s face immediately brightened. “Really?”
“Yes,” Adrian said. “Thank you for the invitation.”
She looked relieved. “Then… I’ll see you there.”
She glanced once more at Reyes, then turned and left.
After the door closed, the atmosphere in the living room became a little quiet.
Kai looked at Adrian with a teasing smile. “You’re quite popular lately.”
Adrian ignored him and looked at Reyes. “You should go too.”
Reyes nodded. “I was about to. The company is… not very peaceful lately.”
Her eyes darkened slightly, “Evan and some of the board members are starting to move more openly.”
“I know,” Adrian said calmly, “Let them. It’s almost time anyway.”
Reyes looked at him seriously. “Are you really going to announce that you’re alive?”
“Yes,” Adrian said. “But not yet. Not until I find the man who sealed my memory.”
