Seeing Matthew stay silent, Daron motioned him inside.

Matthew’s face darkened, and without waiting for anyone, he stepped through the Zamora family’s front gate and made a beeline for the main hall.
He practically stormed in, clearly annoyed.
Honestly, he looked like Daron had somehow insulted him.
When Harris heard Daron was back, he came out to the main room for the first time in ages.
He walked into the courtyard, and when he spotted Daron, a rare smile spread across his face.
Daron stepped forward and called out, “Grandpa.”
Harris patted Daron on the shoulder, grinning. “It’s good to have you back. As long as you’re safe, that’s all that
matters.”
Even though Harris knew Daron’s “illness” was just a smokescreen, he still couldn’t help but worry these past few days.
After all, Daron was overseas, and anything could happen at any moment.
Harris was stuck back home, and couldn’t do much to help right away.
Matthew noticed Harris was completely wrapped up in talking to Daron, not even sparing him a glance. Frowning, Matthew cut in, interrupting Harris while he was still focused on Daron.
“Harris, the press conference is over,” Matthew said.
Harris nodded as he said, “Alright, glad it’s over. Congrats, Matthew.”
Matthew’s face twitched, but he forced a smile and just shrugged it off like it didn’t matter.
“Harris, you must be getting confused. I’m not the one calling the shots, so what’s there to congratulate me for?” Matthew said.
Harris just laughed, shaking his head.
“You’ve spent years mentoring Martin, and now he’s finally landed the spot you’ve always dreamed of for him. If I’m not congratulating you, who else would I congratulate?” Harris said.
Matthew met Harris’s gaze.
There wasn’t a trace of sarcasm on Harris’s face as he said that.
Matthew lowered his voice and said, “Honestly, Martin has you and Daron to thank for all of this. If it weren’t for you two, Martin wouldn’t be where he is now.”

…
Harris smiled, a little amused to see Matthew actually being polite for once.
“We’re family. There’s no need to talk about who owes what,” Harris said.
“Come on, let’s go inside and chat,” Harris added lightheartedly.
Matthew nodded.
Harris didn’t show even a hint of blame toward Matthew, which just made Matthew even more uncomfortable.
He’d come over all ready for a showdown with Harris.
But now, all that mental prep went straight out the window.
Matthew was left feeling pretty sour inside.

The way Harris and Daron just rolled with everything made Matthew feel like he was the bad guy here.
Matthew shot a look at Daron, who was still deep in conversation with Harris.
“Daron, about you turning down the position at Zamora Group. I really think you should give it some serious thought,” Matthew said.
“Harris, try to talk him into it, will you? For everyone’s sake, now’s not the time to act on impulse,” Matthew added.
Harris smiled, then said, “Matthew, Daron has his own plans for his career. You don’t need to worry about it. I trust Zamora Group will only get better with Martin at the helm.”
Harris made it crystal clear. No matter what Daron decided, he’d have his back.
But there was another message hidden in his words. Now that Martin is in charge of Zamora Group, there’s really no reason for Daron to work there anymore.
Matthew’s face darkened.
“Harris, you don’t actually want Martin in that position, do you? If you don’t, just say so. I don’t want anything coming between us at our old age.” Matthew probed.
Harris looked up at Matthew, his eyes sharp as a hawk, making Matthew squirm a little.
After a long pause, Harris finally spoke, his voice low and serious.
“Matthew, as I said, Martin’s exactly where he belongs,” Harris said.
“Daron has his own plans. Besides, with Martin running things now, having Daron come back to Zamora Group would just make things harder for him,” Harris added.
“If the company does well, great. But if things go wrong, wouldn’t Martin be the one everyone blames?” Harris
asked.

Matthew was about to speak, but Harris simply raised his hand, cutting him off.
‘Alright, it’s all settled now. There’s no point in dwelling on it, Harris said.

‘If you’re dead set on Daron staying at Zamora Group, then maybe I should be questioning Martin’s abilities. Are you saying Zamora Group can’t survive without Daron?‘ Harris added.
After Harris said that, Matthew fell completely silent.
News of Daron’s return quickly reached the side courtyard.
Hayley rushed over, and when she saw Daron sitting on the couch talking with Harris, she couldn’t hide the shock in her eyes.
“Daron…” Hayley called out, her voice trembling slightly.
‘I can’t believe he’s really back… Hayley thought, her voice still shaking as she spoke.
Daron glanced up at Hayley, gave her a small nod, and greeted her, “Aunt Hayley.”
Hayley nodded back, bracing herself against the wall, her smile a little awkward and forced.
Marina caught the look and couldn’t help but feel a little confused.
Hayley hadn’t gotten any news about Daron at all these past few days.
So seeing him sitting there, perfectly fine, she should have immediately come over to see how he was doing.
But even though her eyes were filled with worry, there wasn’t the slightest trace of happiness in them.
By all rights, Hayley should have been happy to see him safe.
Daron was unharmed, and her strongest support was still there.
With Daron back, Hayley’s position in the Zamora family was untouchable. No one would dare question her.
But at that moment, Hayley seemed torn, wanting to get closer to Daron but hesitating, almost afraid to approach him.
Marina, still confused, shifted her gaze to Daron.
Daron was busy talking with Harris and wasn’t really paying attention to Hayley at all.
Harris wasn’t paying attention to her either.
Marina pressed her lips together.
‘Guess it’s just my own bias against Hayley making me see things that aren’t really there, Marina thought to herself.
Hayley steadied herself and hurried over to Daron, worry etched all over her face.

“Not even a single call to your aunt to say you’re alright?” Hayley said, her voice trembling with reproach.
“Do you know how worried I’ve been? I could barely eat or sleep these days,” she added.
As she spoke, tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.
Daron said, “Sorry for making you worry, Aunt Hayley. Things were complicated back then, and I couldn’t risk letting too many people know.”
Hayley’s eyes welled up with tears.
“Am I just some stranger to you? Were you afraid I’d blab to someone else if you told me?” Hayley shot back, her voice sharp with anger.
Her anger was so strong, it drowned out all the worry and concern she felt.
Daron frowned, his dark eyes locked onto Hayley, but you couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
Hayley’s face went stiff for a split second before she ducked her head, swiping at her tears.
Right then, Marina could feel in her gut that something was seriously off with Hayley.
