Chapter 108
The afternoon light filtered gently through the tall windows of Miss Reyes’s office, casting long, neat shadows across the polished wooden floor. Unlike her usual habit of standing by the window to think, today she was sitting behind her desk, flipping through a stack of documents with calm, unhurried movements.
Her phone vibrated softly on the desk.
She glanced at the screen and picked it up.
“Young Master,” she said.
On the other end, Adrian’s voice was steady. “You said there was something?”
“Yes,” Miss Reyes replied. “The Brown family sent an email this morning. Addressed directly to the chairman.”
She paused, then added with a faint, cold smile, “It’s a very… heartfelt apology.”
Adrian didn’t sound surprised. “They’re trying to save their project?”
“And their future,” Miss Reyes said. “They’re asking for a chance to explain themselves in person.”
“And the management?” Adrian asked.
“I told them not to reply,” she said calmly. “No acknowledgment. No rejection. Nothing.”
Adrian thought for a moment, then said, “Good. There’s no need to respond.”
Miss Reyes nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “That’s what I thought as well. If we respond now, they’ll think they still have hope.”
“Let them wait,” Adrian said. “Sometimes waiting is more effective than any punishment.”
A faint smile appeared on Miss Reyes’s lips. “Understood.”
They exchanged a few more words about the company’s recent arrangements and then ended the call.
Miss Reyes placed the phone back on the table and leaned slightly into her chair, her fingers tapping lightly on the armrest.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” she said.
Her assistant poked her head in. “Director, there’s someone here to see you. He says it’s urgent.”
“Who?” Miss Reyes asked.
“He didn’t give a name,” the assistant said. “But he insisted.”

Miss Reyes frowned slightly, then stood up. “Tell him to wait. I’ll be there in a moment.”
“Yes, Director.”
As soon as the assistant left, Miss Reyes picked up a folder and walked out of her office.
The moment the door closed behind her, someone opened it again..
A figure quietly walked into the office. Evan Cole
His eyes swept across the office quickly, sharp and calculating. He moved fast, but carefully, as if he had done this kind of thing more than once.
“So this is how careful you are,” he muttered to himself.
He went straight to the desk and began searching.
Drawers.
Folders.
Even the hidden compartments behind the bookshelf.
He was looking for one thing and one thing only–any clue related to Ryan Cole.
Or rather… the chairman.
He had suspected Miss Reyes for a long time.
Too careful.
Too clean.
Too perfect.
Ever since the rumors started spreading that the Cole Group’s chairman might still be alive, Evan had felt uneasy. Miss Reyes had been controlling too much. Too many important decisions went through her
hands.
And yet, no matter how he tried, he couldn’t find any real trace of the chairman.
Not a single document.
Not a single record.
Not even a hidden contact.
Minutes passed.
Evan’s expression grew darker.
“Damn it,” he cursed under his breath. “Nothing. Absolutely nothing.”

He slammed a drawer shut in frustration.
“How can someone hide things this cleanly?” he muttered. “Not even a trail for me to follow…”
He straightened up, his eyes cold.
“Reyes… you really are careful.”
He checked the time, then quickly restored everything to its original position. With one last glance around the office, he slipped out through the door just as quietly as he had come in.
A few minutes later, Miss Reyes returned.
She stopped as soon as she stepped inside.
Her eyes swept across the room.
At first glance, everything looked normal.
Too normal.
She walked to her desk and placed the folder down slowly. Her gaze fell on a pen that had shifted slightly from its original angle.
Just a little.
But enough.
Her lips curved into a faint, knowing smile.
“So,” she murmured, sitting down in her chair, “someone came to play while I was away.”
She leaned back slightly and looked around the office, her eyes calm and sharp.
“Evan Cole…” she said softly. “You really can’t sit still.”
She tapped her fingers lightly on the desk.
“Since you like hide and seek so much,” she said, her smile deepening, “then let’s continue playing.”

Lucas strode into the living room, a smug grin plastered across his face, holding a sleek envelope in one hand. “Ladies,” he announced, letting the words hang in the air as if he’d just delivered the key to the universe, “I’ve secured us invitations to the National Bank Grand Banquet. Platinum access, front–row seats–everything. Only the most exclusive guests are allowed.”
Margaret’s eyes widened, and she clasped her hands together. “Lucas! You did this for us?” Her voice trembled slightly with excitement. “I can’t believe it… this–this is beyond anything we imagined!”
Sophia bounced on her heels, practically vibrating with energy. “Mother, did you hear that? Platinum! We’re going to be at the same event as the city’s elite! Lucas, you are incredible!”

Lucas puffed up his chest, as if they hadn’t already made him feel ten feet tall. “Of course I am,” he said with a teasing chuckle, waving the invitation like a trophy. “I told you, I know how to make things happen. While everyone else scrambles for a seat at these events, we get the gold–literally. I’ve got the connections, the timing, the vision. You’ll see, tonight will set everything straight. Everything we’ve
worked for, everything we deserve–it’s finally balancing out.”
Margaret’s eyes glistened, and she placed a hand over her heart. “Lucas… you’re amazing. You’ve finally given us the recognition we deserve. With this, it’s like we’re finally moving up in the world.”
Sophia leaned in, practically swooning. “I’ve never felt so excited! Everyone will see us there, and they’ll know our family has arrived! Lucas, you’re a genius. Truly.”
Lucas smirked, letting them gush for a moment before adding with dramatic flair, “And don’t forget, this is only the beginning. I’ve arranged the platinum access, yes–but soon, the entire city will know who we are, and who we belong with. No one else can touch us. Remember this moment, ladies, because tonight
… tonight we claim our place at the top.”
Margaret and Sophia exchanged delighted glances, practically hanging on his every word. “Oh, Lucas, you’ve changed everything for us!” Margaret whispered. “This… this will be a night we’ll remember forever.”
Lucas bowed theatrically, letting them marvel at him. “Naturally,” he said. “It’s all part of the plan. And you two… well, you just get to enjoy the ride while I handle the world.”
Sophia clutched her invitation like a treasure. “Lucas, you’re… you’re a hero!”
Margaret nodded fervently. “Yes, a hero. Without you, we’d never have this chance. We owe you everything.”
Lucas leaned back with a satisfied grin, the picture of confidence. “Remember, ladies, it’s not just about showing up. It’s about showing the world that we belong. Tonight, every eye will be on us. And with me leading, there’s no way we’ll ever be ignored again.”
They all laughed, cheered, and practically danced around the living room, utterly wrapped up in Lucas’s triumph..
