How Not To Fall For A Dragon

Chapter 92 92- Never Get Caught Studying In His Room

LEXI

When I wake up, my head is still hurting, but not nearly as badly as it was before. It’s more of a dull pressure now, like the echo of something that was much worse. It takes me a minute to remember exactly what happened. For a few hazy seconds I just lie there, staring at the ceiling, disoriented and warm and not entirely sure where I am. Then it hits me. Potions class. The girl. The magic. The light. The hornRight. I stretch instinctively and immediately regret it, and also don’t. My arms extend over my head and my back arches slightly, and every muscle protests. It’s the kind of deep ache you get after using muscles you don’t normally use. Like after an intense workout you weren’t remotely prepared for. It’s uncomfortableBut sort of satisfying at the same

time. How does that even work? Did I use the same muscles as aOkay, it sounds kind of dumb even thinking it. But a unicorn. I am apparently a unicorn. If I changed, did I have entirely different muscles? Or did my human muscles somehow translate? How does that WORK? Like, in his human form Blake doesn’t have wings, so if his wings were exhausted and he shifted back, would he justNot feel that anymore? Or would the soreness transfer somewhere

else? I have so many questions

I can tell you’re awake, Lexi. What are you thinking about so hard?Blake comments. My eyes fly open again and I turn my head quickly. Blake is sitting at his desk across the room, watching me with that knowing look he gets when he’s been observing me for a while. Oh. Right. His room. I push myself upright

slowly, stretching my arms again, testing the soreness

Question.I say, squinting slightly as I piece the thought together

If you have sore wings, does that soreness justNot exist when you’re in your human form?I ask. Blake blinks at me, clearly not expecting that to be the

first thing out of my mouth

No.He says after a second

My shoulder blades and back usually end up sore.He responds. Huh. So maybe it’s the closest corresponding muscle group. Or maybe the magic translates the strain somehow. That makes a weird kind of sense. I really need to research this properly

Is that really what you’re thinking about right now?He asks, voice edged with disbelief. I smile at him a little sheepishly

I guess so. I was thinking wow, I’m kind of sore, and then I started trying to figure out the logic behind it. I’ll ask Layla sometime. She probably knows.

decide

You’re sore?Blake frowns immediately and stands, crossing the room in a few strides. I shrug

Not in a bad way. I’m fine. Promise.I assure him. He looks me over carefully anyway, eyes scanning my face, my posture, like he’s checking for cracks

Only when he’s satisfied do his shoulders case slightly

You’ve been asleep a long time.He says. That makes me pause

How long?I ask cautiously

WellHe glances at the clock

It’s about three AM right now. SoSeventeen hours. Give or take. He informs me. My eyes go wide

Seriously? Seventeen hours!I blurt out. He nods

Yep.He confirms, No wonder I feel weird. No wonder he looks tired. His hair is slightly mussed, and there are faint shadows under his eyes like he hasn’t slept much at all. He probably hasn’t. What am I thinking? Of course he hasn’t. I’ve been hogging bis bed! My sleep schedule is going to be completely ruined. Good thing it’s the weekend

What are you doing over there?I ask, gesturing toward his desk where there’s a neat stack of open books and scattered notes

Researching unicorns, of course. He replies, like it’s obvious, and maybe it kind of is

I found a book with an entry on them.He adds. I perk up immediately

Really? I want to see!I say excitedly. He smiles faintly and brings one of the books over, settling it in my lap

I marked the page.He tells me. But I don’t even open it right away. I’m staring at the cover

Extinct Magical Creatures

The word sits heavy in my chest

ExtinctI murmur

WellI guess that explains why we couldn’t figure it outI trail off. Blake gives a small nod, his expression unreadable. Extinct. Not rare. Not hidden

GoneI take a slow breath, steadying myself, then finally turn to the page he marked and begin to read

Of all known creatures, there is none as pure as the unicorn. Unicorns are widely considered to be among the most neutral of magical beings, possessing calm

accepting temperaments and a strong aversion to unnecessary harm. They are nonpredatory by nature and, while technically omnivorous, typically maintain

vegetarian diets. This gentleness, however, should not be mistaken for fragility. Unicorns are extraordinarily stubborn, fiercely independent, and capable of sudden,

overwhelming violence when pushed beyond endurance

A unicorn’s horn is both its most recognisable feature and its greatest liability. While often associated with beauty and purity, the horn is a lethal weapon when used in combat. Unicorns backed into a corner are capable of entering a rare battle frenzy marked by extreme adrenaline and diminished rational thought. In this state, a unicorn should never be approached. Such episodes are uncommon and deeply distressing to unicorns themselves, typically occurring only under conditions of severe threat or desperation. Survivors of these incidents often report lingering guilt and emotional distress once the danger has passed

Unicorns possess a broad range of magical abilities, though the full extent of their power remains unclear. This uncertainty is largely by design. Unicorns are intensely private creatures and rarely disclose information about themselves, even to those they trust. Known abilities include the purification of liquids, the detection and destruction of poisons, and the cleansing of undead entities or beings lacking souls. Unicorns are also among the most powerful healers known, and many are instinctively drawn toward healing paths. While they can refuse to heal and retain full agency over how their magic is used, the impulse to alleviate suffering appears to be deeply ingrained. Their capacity for healing magic far exceeds that of most other species, though even unicorns can experience fatigue when

Overextended

It is widely rumoured that it is impossible to lie to a unicorn. Most scholars agree that unicorns can reliably detect literal falsehoods, and there is some speculation that they may also sense intent. However, due to the rarity of direct study and the unicornsreluctance to be observed, much of this remains unconfirmed. The academic record on unicorns is notably incomplete, relying heavily on secondhand accounts and historical texty rather than contemporary observation

Socially, unicorns prefer small, trusted circles rather than true solitude. They are not inherently solitary creatures, but centuries of persecution have forced them into isolation. Unicorns tend to form deep bonds within carefully chosen groups and often demonstrate caretaking behaviours, particularly toward the word ar vulnerable. This tendency appears to stem less from obligation and more from aptitude, unicorns are simply very good at caring for others. They are highly heyat

and widely regarded as exceptionally trustworthy as both friends and romantic partners Unicorns are monogamous by nature, and betrayal by a partner at tricked

companion is considered one of the gravest emotional wounds a unicorn can suffer

Unicorns are among the rarest of all magical creatures, and many believe they may already be extinct. They have not been reliably sighted in meer at century. The primary cause of their decline is well known. Drinking from a cup carved from a unicorn’s horn, known as the alicarn, can sustain life indefinitely putting user from illness and the effects of aging so long as the vessel is used regularly and the bearer is not killed For this reason, unicorns have been hunted relentlessly for generations. Unlike many other hunted species, unicorns are not naturally aggressive nor particularly suited to large scale physical conflict their reluctamon to fight, combined with the immense value placed on their horns and magic, led to devastating population losses in a relatively short period of time

Chapter 92 92- Never Get Caught Studying In His Room

Unicorns are known to be exceptionally protective of their young, particularly after a child’s first transformation, as a revealed unicorn shifter becomes immediately vulnerable to capture and exploitation. It is likely that the scarcity of reliable information about unicorns is not an accident, but a survival strategy. Unicorns represent one of the greatest losses to the magical world. Gentle but not weak, powerful yet restrained, they embody a form of magic that was valued only for what could be taken from it. Whether unicorns persist in hiding or have truly vanished remains unknown, but at this point it seems unlikely that any have survived. If they are not extinct, then it is unlikely they will ever reveal themselves. What is certain is that the world has become poorer in their absence
