Chapter 444
Daron took the document from Zara, his gaze already shifting away.
Seeing how cold Daron was toward her, Zara couldn’t help but feel hurt, a trace of sorrow flickering in her eyes.
“Daron, aren’t you curious why I’m here?” Zara asked.
She looked at Daron with a hint of expectation in her eyes, hoping that he would raise his gaze to meet hers.

But Daron barely glanced at the document. He just signed it and handed it back to her, his face remaining impassive.
“Isn’t it for work? What else could it be?” he replied flatly.
Zara’s expression froze at his words, her eyes brimming with tears.
Only then did Daron finally look up at her.
His gaze fell upon her face, observing her slightly reddened eyes, yet there was no trace of concern in his eyes, only a stern expression.
“You’ll be under way more pressure working directly for me than in the position I arranged for you at the Zamora Group branch,” Daron said flatly.
Zara bit her lip, her voice trembling slightly as she said, “I can handle the pressure, Daron. Trust me.”
Daron responded with a faint “mm–hmm,” his tone remaining heavy. “If you can’t bear it, you can leave at any time. I hope you’re mentally prepared.”
Zara nodded, wiping the tears from the corner of her eye before offering Daron a brave, fragile smile.
‘Don’t worry, Daron. I had already made up my mind when I left Zamora Group. I want to stand by your side and help you carve out a realm together,” she said, her voice steady.
Daron looked at her, his tone cool. “If you want to carve out a realm, you should be in the planning or project department. So why did you pick the CEO’s office?
I remember you majored in planning and project management while you were studying in Frency.”
Zara gently pursed her lips, straightened her back, and said in a solemn tone, “Because there’s so much more to learn in the CEO’s office. I want to be like Garret, someone who’s always got your back, your right–hand.”
Her eyes blazed with determination as she spoke.
Daron gave a slight nod and finally said, “Go for it then.”
Zara’s smile returned, bright and determined.
‘Let’s go for it together,” she said.
Daron just nodded and left it at that.
He handed the signed document back to Zara.
Zara took it, turned, and left Daron’s office. She didn’t linger for chit–chat as she used to at Zamora Group.

She knew full well that the new company was currently in its growth phase, and she couldn’t act as if she knew nothing to get close to Daron, as she might have done before at Zamora Group.
Now, she had to show her real skills. Even if she had questions, she would rather consult others than ever show any sign of inadequacy in front of Daron.
When she joined the CEO’s office, she already had a clear career plan.
She wanted to become someone indispensable to Daron, just like Garret.
One day, if I keep at it, I’ll definitely edge Marina out for good, Zara thought to herself.
As Zara left Daron’s office, she automatically pulled the door shut behind her.
Marina had just finished her call with Elnora, put her phone away, and turned around when she saw Zara coming out of
Daron’s office.
she expected Zara to stay in Daron’s office for a while, but she was surprised to see Zara come out so quickly.
Zara was all smiles, clearly in a great mood, and she actually greeted Marina first. “Ms. Finley.”
Marina nodded slightly and headed toward Daron’s office.
ust as she reached for the doorknob, Zara spoke up again, “Ms. Finley, are you going to be working here too?”
Hearing that, Marina shook her head and said, “No, so you really don’t need to worry.”
Hearing that, Zara quickly waved her hand and said, “Ms. Finley, that’s not what I meant. Honestly, I really hope you’d join he company and help Daron out. After all, he could really use some extra help these days.”
Marina just looked at her, saying nothing.
Zara kept going, “Ms. Finley, I know you might still be mad about what I did before. I really do regret it, and I want us to get long. After everything with Daron, I see things a lot more clearly now.
I hope you can forgive me. Can we be friends again?”
Zara said that softly, then offered her hand to Marina.
Marina hesitated for a moment, glancing down at Zara’s hand before finally reaching out and taking it.
Alright, Marina said.
Seeing that Marina had taken her hand, Zara’s smile lit up even more, making her look just like an innocent little girl.
It was only then that Zara’s eyes caught the ring on Marina’s finger.
She first froze for a moment, then feigned surprise and said, “Is that the ring from Daron?”
Marina nodded softly. “Yeah. He designed it himself.”
Zara blinked in surprise, then smiled and said, “Wow, Daronis is so thoughtful. It seems he really likes you. Ms. Finley, you’re so lucky.”
Marina pressed her lips together into a faint smile and didn’t respond to Zara’s words.

Zara let go of her hand quickly, her voice soft as she said, “I have a lot on my plate, so I’ll get back to work now. Let’s catch up another time.”
Marina nodded.
Zara then walked briskly past Marina.
Marina watched her leave, her expression calm and indifferent.
After Zara settled into her office chair, Marina finally pushed Daron’s office door open and walked in.
‘Be friends again?‘ Marina scoffed inwardly. Like things could really go back to normal between us that easily. Does she seriously think I’m an idiot?”
Marina pushed open the door to Daron’s office and found him working intently.
His black shirt sleeves were casually rolled up, revealing his strong, muscular forearms.
He was fully absorbed in the documents on his desk, his expression grave and focused.
Seeing Marina enter, the tension in his brow finally eased.
“I thought you said you were heading back,” he said.
Marina walked over to his desk and said softly, “Elnora just finished her first round of chemo, and the cancer cells are gone for now. Mrs. Campbell wants to throw a little celebration, and I really want to be there for such an important moment.”
Hearing that, Daron reached to hold Marina’s hand, then asked softly. “So, when are you heading over?”
“Tomorrow morning,” Marina answered.
Daron frowned slightly at her words.
“I’ve got a company meeting tomorrow,” he said.
Marina nodded. “I know. It’s okay, you can go ahead with your work. Elnora will definitely understand,”
Daron’s expression turned a bit more serious. “I’m afraid the Campbell family might not understand.”
Marina was stunned for a moment. She hadn’t expected Daron to be so thoughtful about it.
Honestly, that hadn’t even crossed her mind.
