“I cooked several of Daron’s favorite dishes myself.”

Harris glanced at the trying–to–please smile on Hayley’s face and replied in a flat tone, “Don’t trouble yourself. None of us will be home for dinner tonight.”
Hearing that, Hayley was taken aback for a second, then asked in a tentative voice, “Are you going out somewhere else tonight?”
Harris nodded, watching her reaction as he said, “Durif invited us over to his place for dinner.
“He said the Blanchard family hasn’t had a proper gathering in ages, so he invited us over to bring some life back into the
house.”
Hearing that, Hayley lowered her head, lips pressed tight, saying nothing.
Harris shot her a glance, then walked away.
Hayley had expected Harris to invite her along, like he always did before.
But this time, he didn’t say a word to her. He just left.
Hayley took a deep breath. As she watched Harris’s retreating figure, her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into tight fists.
She gritted her teeth, then turned and went back to the kitchen.
The Blanchard family even invited Harris, Hayley thought, ‘but didn’t even bother to send me an invite.
They truly used me up and then threw me away.
Now I’m nothing but a discarded pawn to the Blanchard family.
But whatever. At least after all these years, I’ve secured my place in the Zamora family.
Daron actually respects me now. As long as he’s still standing, I’ll always have someone in my corner.
When Zara got home from work and saw Hayley had set out a whole table packed with food, her eyes widened in surprise. She hurried over to Hayley and asked in a low voice, “Mom, didn’t you see the message I sent you?”
She’d already told Hayley that Daron and the others wouldn’t be home for dinner.
Hayley picked up her phone and took a photo at the dining table. When she noticed Zara walk in, she answered softly, “No, ! saw it.
Zara bit her lip.
“Then why did you make so many dishes? There’s no way we can finish all this,” Zara said.
Hayley gave a faint smile and replied softly, “If we can’t finish it, there are always others who can.
“I just wanted to post something on Instagram Story, It’s been ages since I last shared anything.”
Zara got it right away. She knew exactly what Hayley was getting at.
After snapping a photo, Hayley posted it to her Instagram Story with no caption, just a shot of the table piled high with
dishes.

Once she’d posted, she set her phone down and gestured for Zara to sit down
“Go ahead and cat. If we can’t finish, the staff at the house can have the rest, Hayley said.
Zara nodded and took her seat.
Daron’s attitude today really put Zara in a bad mood, so she didn’t have much of an appetite.
After just a few bites, she set her fork down.
Hayley wasn’t feeling hungry either. When she noticed Zara had stopped eating, she stood up from the table with a smile and invited the staff to join their meal.
The staff tried to refuse at first, but Hayley’s persistent warmth made it impossible for them to say no.
Hayley ushered them to the table, her smile overly gracious and charitable.
It’s just us at home today, so don’t be so formal,” Hayley said. “You’ve all worked for the Zamora family for years. Honeuly, you’re practically family by now.
Don’t be shy, just dig in.”
Hayley wore an insincere, phony smile the whole time.
Zara then slid the dishes toward the maid seated beside her.
Gauri, have some more. You’re looking a bit skinny lately,” Zara said.
Hearing that, Gauri managed an awkward smile and said quietly, “Thank you, Miss Blanchard.
That’s very kind of you.
You and Mrs. Zamora are both such kind people.”
Hayley pressed her lips together in a polite, practiced smile.
Zara’s face was also lit up with a bright smile.
After dinner, Hayley waited until Gauri was by herself, then walked over to check in with her.
Gauri, are you sure nothing happened at home the day I went to the hospital?” Hayley asked.
As soon as Hayley got home, she claimed she’d lost something and headed straight to the security office to check the surveillance tapes.
But the surveillance footage of the day she was hospitalized, specifically the period after she left the Zamora mansion, appeared to have been deleted. There was a gap in the recording for that timeframe.
She asked the security staff, but they all gave her the same canned response. They said there’d been a power outage that day.
But Hayley knew the Zamora family’s cameras had backup batteries. Even if the power really did go out, there was no way the footage from that specific period would be missing.
She always felt that something else must have happened on the night she left.
With the security footage gone, Hayley was feeling uneasy. She had no choice but to find someone to ask.
