Chapter 151
Chapter 151
“You are to stick with the Queen at all times. Do you understand me? the Vampire King asks his daughter, who looks over t me as if asking if I’m seeing what she has to deal with.
I smile and give them a moment so I can take a deep breath. This is the first time I’ll have someone I’ve never worked with behind me. I know that Ragnar wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t already know that I was capable of it. I check all my weapons and make sure I have everything I need.
Ragnar motions me to follow, and the two of us get in a blacked–out truck to wait for the vampires.
“You’re very calm about all of this,” he says softly.
“Spying, or are we expected to do more?” I ask.
“No. We just want that information. Vampires are excruciatingly stealthy. Watch her. He has a way of underestimating her because she can act completely uninterested in what she’s doing to spite him. Think you can handle it?”
‘She seems okay for now. There’s a huge reserve of water in her body if that helps ease your mind.”
“It does. You always know exactly what to say to make me feel better,” he sighs. “I doubt she’ll be too much trouble, but in these cases, we can never be too sure. I need you to be very careful.”
“You too,” I say, taking his hand. “Is this your car?”
‘No, it’s theirs.”

‘Oh, um. If you guys are recording, it’s nothing personal. I’m naturally paranoid, and you already know he’s a little crazy.” 1 say out loud.
“Yeah, we know,” Aurora laughs when she gets in. “We can hear better than you guys, and he’s got an incredibly distinctive deep voice.”
I think that as well. Her father gets in the car, and Ragnar takes off. It’s a two–hour drive. I begin running protocol in my head, and I think it’s loud enough that Ragnar reaches out to pat my hand. I glance back to see that Aurora is sitting behind him. She’s looking out the window, but it looks like she’s focused on something.
I take a deep breath and mentally scream in my head. I immediately see her flinch. Ragnar glances at me, and I look back out the window with a smile on my face. I knew something about her was off, but her charm was so genuine.
-I almost believed you- I say in my head. She chuckles lowly but doesn’t say anything
There is no way she can hear better than this, or maybe she can, but I’ve had trouble with it since I shifted. Our voices were not loud enough for anyone outside the car to hear. Ragnar’s hearing is just as bad, and sometimes we have whole conversations while whispering or keeping our voices low. I keep trying to play out how things might go. It’s something I like to do when we’re running drills.
This is new territory for me. I firmly believe that my first mission was as successful as it was because I knew the layout, where everything was, and the city’s formation. I made the guys study it when I proposed the plan, and this is no different While I was working on my essays, I found some information about the compound we are going to visit Ragnar has mentioned it prior, and I didn’t think he was joking one bit. I tend to take him a lot more seriously now that I know motivated he is.
I play the layouts I found in my head over and over so she can see them, or, at the very least, know that move around more easily because of them Rogue territories are all set up the same. They’re all compound up to three hundred wolves at a time. The small houses are sturdy and house two to four wolves. The strongh

It’s the floors built like a loft space, and the main floor is where those in charge of the compound are. It’s harder to track the leaders among rogues because they’re always changing. Most die, others step down once they’re mated, and those who manage to maintain their positions rotate so they’re not easily found.
This compound, in particular, was the first ever built when the new King took over. They’ve only been up for eight years. I was getting my third reconstruction surgery when it was broadcast worldwide. No one really trusted them at first. I wouldn’t have either if I had been a real rogue. It always felt like it was a step up to gather as many of them as possible and then drop the rogue count all in one go.
However, to show them good faith, the Rogue King made it his home and as his community grew, he began building them everywhere. Before coming to Blackstone, I used to believe that one day I would turn on the TV and find my morbid Issumption there to greet my day. If I could find the layouts and information online, anyone willing could do the same, which leads me to believe that what we need to find will not be somewhere obvious.
Be safe, girls, Ragnar says and pulls over. “Head south.”
get out of the car and let my senses run. I’ve never had to do this outside a controlled enviroment and almost always, someone has been with me. Once we step off the road, I crouch down and look into the forest ahead. I glance over at the princess and motion for her to follow me.
Wouldn’t it be better to take the bricks?” she asks pointed at an entrance path not far from where we are.
No, entrances have sensors and cameras. We need to stay low. Come,” I motion her a second time.
Aurora nods and follows behind me. She’s very light–footed. I can barely hear her steps, but they are a little louder than nine. She’s testing me, I’m sure of it. We make it to the high gate without a problem. She stays with me as she looks around and then taps my arm to point out an alleyway that leads through the homes on the other side of the bars.
Can you get over?” I ask her.
She nods and takes a step back. I look around for cameras and find a couple not too far from us. I raise my mini taser gun and fire at it. I turn up the voltage and pull the trigger to fry the device, pointing in the direction we’re going. I pull the wire back as hard as I can toss it aside.
Nice,” she smiles. I blink, and she’s gone. I look around and see that she’s on the other side of the gate, hidden in the darkness between the buildings.
I smile and take a deep breath. I take off in a full sprint and jump over the gate with ease. I skid to a stop behind her and press up against the building. I look down at my watch and count the minutes until someone shows up. Twelve minutes.
If you’re not already inside, you have a ten–minute window when you take down a camera- 1 inform Ragnar.
Thanks. Do I just break it? What did you do?–
I used my taser. Set it to the killswitch.
“You can hear him?” she whispers lowly.
-Yeah.
I’ve never met Lycans who can do that. Is it perhaps because you are part werewolf?”
“Yeah, I nod.
“That’s actually pretty cool. Is that why you didn’t freak out when you figured it out?”

“No, I didn’t know I could do that at all. I guess, as someone who lives in their head a big portion of my time, 1 thank or wond suck to have your power. I don’t like listening to people talk. I can’t imagine the nightmare it is to have to hear what they’re thinking.”
But you were supposed to be the Luna of a whole city. Shouldn’t you have linked in with your mater
If he had marked me, maybe,” I shrug. “But I didn’t know I was a Lycan, so to them I was an omega, and they’re not very ond of someone who is useless enough to be unworthy of a wolf spirit?
Rough,” she says quietly. “I can control it. I have to focus on the sound of people’s voices to pick up on their thoughes Maybe once I ascend, it’ll grow, but for now. It’s one mind at a time.
