His mouth tilted. The silence grew tall and soft. He moved closer, not like a hunter-like a tide-and stopped far enough away that I could pretend to miss him.
“Elara,” he said my name like he was opening a door. “They will try to make us a weapon. They can’t unless we let them. I won’t pretend I don’t know what you are to me. I won’t pretend I don’t want a life with you.”
“A life,” I said, wary.
“A family,” he corrected, gentle. “You. Aeron. Me.” No flourish-truth doesn’t need volume. “Marry me. Not tonight-take what time you need. I’ll wait. Just don’t push me away thinking I’ll go. I won’t.”
The breath stuttered. “After you… there was no one. I didn’t let anyone touch me.” Stripping off a shield and finding skin that still bruised. “You were the first. And the last.”
Something raw tore through his eyes-joy and grief and hunger braided into reverence. He brushed his knuckles along my cheek, careful like I was holy. “I couldn’t forget you. Years didn’t move you.”
me.”
“Maybe you’re used to one night and pretty stories to soften it,” I said, always a blade. “That’s not
“I know.” His thumb traced my jaw, callus catching delicate skin in a way that made heat unknot. “You’re not a night. You’re a life. The bond hit me the second I saw you in that bar in Paris. I didn’t name it then because I didn’t want to frighten you.” His mouth tucked wry. “After you, there wasn’t anyone. Every time I closed my eyes, there you were.”
Something old unlatched inside me. Don’t go, he said, softer than any command. “Even if you say no to tonight. I’ll stand outside your door as long as you need. But I’m not leaving.”
“Good.” My truth stepped into light I’d circled forever. “I don’t want you to.”
His smile went tender and a touch feral. “Then we practice,” he said. “With patience. And with fire.”
He kissed me an ask, then an answer, then a prayer that forgot its manners.
His mouth moved against mine with a deliberate slowness that sent shivers down my spine. Each touch was a promise, a whispered vow that echoed the words he’d spoken earlier. His hands, rough and gentle at the same time, cupped my face, fingers tracing the line of my jaw, the curve of my cheek. I could feel the heat of his skin, the pulse of his desire, and it mirrored my own. The room seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of us, our hearts beating in sync, our breaths mingling in a dance as old as time.

Thorne’s lips parted, allowing his tongue to slip into my mouth, exploring, tasting, claiming. I met his passion with my own, our tongues tangling in a slow, sensual rhythm. The kiss deepened, becoming more urgent, more intense. I could feel the heat building between us, a fire that threatened to consume us both. His hands moved from my face to my shoulders, then down my arms, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake. He pulled me closer, his body pressing against mine, the hard planes of his chest against the soft curves of my breasts.
I gasped as he broke the kiss, his breath hot on my lips. His eyes were dark with desire, the gold flecks almost invisible. “Elara,” he whispered, his voice rough with need. “I want you. I need you.”
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “I want you too,” I whispered back, my voice barely audible.
He smiled, a slow, sensual curve of his lips that sent a jolt of desire straight to my core. He reached up, his fingers tangling in my hair, and pulled me closer. His mouth found mine again, the kiss more urgent this time, more demanding. His hands moved to my back, unbuttoning my shirt with a skill that spoke of experience. I shivered as the cool air hit my skin, my nipples hardening under the thin fabric of my bra.
Thorne broke the kiss again, his eyes never leaving mine as he pushed my shirt off my shoulders. It fell to the floor, leaving me in just my bra and skirt. He reached for the clasp of my bra, his fingers deftly unfastening it. The bra fell away, leaving me bare to his gaze. His eyes roamed over my body, taking in every curve, every line. I could feel the heat of his gaze, the intensity of his desire.
He reached out, his hand cupping my breast, his thumb brushing against my nipple. I gasped, my back arching into his touch. He looked at me, his eyes dark with desire, his breath coming in short gasps. “You’re mine,” he murmured, his voice a low growl that sent shivers down my spine.
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “I’m yours,” I whispered back, my voice barely audible.
His hands finding my hips. He lifted me, his mouth finding mine in a fierce, passionate kiss. He carried me to the couch, laying me down gently. He stood over me, his eyes never leaving mine as he undressed, revealing the hard length of him. I could feel the heat of his gaze, the intensity of his desire.
He joined me on the couch, his body covering mine. His mouth found mine again, the kiss more urgent this time, more demanding. His hands moved to my breasts, his thumbs brushing against my nipples. I gasped, my back arching into his touch. He smiled, a slow, wicked smile that promised pleasure and pain in equal measure,
He moved down my body, his mouth finding my breasts, his tongue licking and sucking at my nipples. I gasped, my hands tangling in his hair, holding him to me, He moved lower, his mouth finding my stomach, his tongue licking and sucking at my skin. I could feel the heat building between us, a fire that threatened to consume us both..

He moved back up my body, his mouth finding mine in a fierce, passionate kiss. His hands moved to my hips, lifting me up. He positioned himself at my entrance, his eyes never leaving mine. “I want you,” he murmured, his voice a low growl that sent shivers down my spine.
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “I want you too,” I whispered back, my voice barely audible.
He pushed into me, his eyes never leaving mine. I gasped, my body stretching to accommodate him. He moved slowly, giving me time to adjust to his size. He was hard and hot inside me, his body pressing against mine. I could feel the heat building, the tension coiling in my core.
He began to move, his hips thrusting against mine. I met his thrusts, my body moving in sync with his. The room filled with the sound of our bodies coming together, the sound of our breath coming in short gasps. The heat built, the tension coiling tighter and tighter.
Thorne’s mouth found mine again, his kiss fierce and passionate. He thrust harder, faster, his body slamming against mine. I could feel the heat building, the tension coiling tighter and tighter.
I gasped, my body arching into his touch. He thrust harder, faster, his body slamming against mine. I could feel the heat building, the tension coiling tighter and tighter.
Thorne kept on pounding her as she felt his large member inside of her hard and full. The room filled with the sound of their bodies slapping together, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. Her body arched into his, her fingers digging into his back as she met each of his thrusts with a force that
matched his own.
As she felt her release was coming, Thorne’s hips moved faster, his body slamming against hers with a force that sent shockwaves through her. His mouth found her neck, his teeth sinking into her flesh as she came to orgasm. The sensation of his teeth marking her sent a wave of euphoria crashing through her, intensifying her pleasure. She cried out, her body convulsing as she rode out the waves of
her release.
Thorne’s body tensed, his thrusts becoming more erratic as he neared his own climax. With a final, powerful thrust, he buried himself deep inside her, his body shuddering as he released. The heat of his release filled her, the sensation of him pulsing inside her sending another wave of pleasure coursing through her.
They stayed like that for a moment, their bodies entwined, their breaths slowly returning to normal. Thorne’s teeth released their hold on her neck, his tongue licking the spot gently, Elara looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of pleasure and surprise.
“You marked me,” she whispered, her fingers tracing the spot on her neck where his teeth had been.

Thorne looked down at her, his golden eyes filled with a tenderness that belied the intensity of their encounter. “You are mine, Elara. I should have marked you and claimed you as my own since the

moment I saw you.”
Elara felt a shiver run down her spine at his words. She knew that this encounter had changed everything between them. They had always had a connection, a bond that went beyond their shared wolf shifter heritage. But this… this was something else entirely. This was a claiming, a declaration of ownership that went beyond the physical.
She reached up, her fingers tangling in his hair, and pulled him down for a kiss. It was a soft, tender kiss, a stark contrast to the fierce passion they had just shared. But it was no less intense, no less meaningful.
As they pulled away, Elara could feel the weight of what had just happened settling over them. She knew that they had crossed a line, that they had taken their relationship to a new level. She also knew that she wouldn’t have it any other way. She wanted Thorne, wanted to be claimed by him, wanted to be his. And she knew that he felt the same way about her.
They lay there for a moment, their bodies still entwined, their hearts beating in sync. Thorne looked down at her, his eyes filled with a mix of love and desire. “We have a lot to discuss, Elara. A lot to plan. But for now, let’s just enjoy this moment. Let’s just enjoy the fact that we are together, that we are finally together.”
Elara smiled up at him, her heart filled with a warmth that she had never felt before. “Together,” she echoed, her voice filled with a promise of things to come.
Chapter Forty-Five- Of Shadows and Whispers
Cassia’s POV
I do not enjoy being dismissed.
Not by kings. Not by generals. And absolutely not by Maris, who herded me from the royal suite with the brisk politeness of a guillotine wrapped in lace.
“Really?” I muttered, heels clicking over stone. “Evicted like I’m smuggling wine coolers and bad decisions.”
Julian matched my stride, tablet glowing like a fussy pet. “Pout less. It creases. Your skincare is already a line item.”
Caius fell in a pace behind-quiet, carved from bedrock. “Why do I feel like I’m babysitting?”
“Because you are,” I said brightly. “And because boredom gives you splinters, tree-stump.”
His mouth did a ghost of a smile-then Julian’s tone changed.
“Security ping.” He flicked a screen toward us. “Harbor Patrol logged gouges along three hulls- uneven, too wide for wolf. One crew reports mist clinging to planks. In August.”
“Mist doesn’t cling,” Caius said. “Unless it’s told to.”
We rounded the turn toward the east corridor. Lantern light lay clean on marble-until something at the edge of vision shivered. A ribbon of black mist slid low along the floor like spilled ink deciding it had legs. It moved with purpose and flattened against the seam of a tapestry. It didn’t rise. It leaned.
My skin woke up. “Julian. Tell me you see that.”
He pulled the corridor feed. “Empty.”
“I saw it,” I said,
“The camera says you didn’t.” Gentle voice, firm faith. “And I trust data… most days.”
Caius crouched, set his palm to the tile, and lifted it damp. “Wet.”
