She figured she would ask Yvonne to lend her the money to buy the painting, and worry about the rest later.
Felix nodded in understanding. “Since you can afford it, don’t try to shift the blame to Ms. Xander. After all, you were the one being foolish. She didn’t force you to buy it.”
Watching Felix speak up for Tracy, Sean found it jarring, and his expression darkened.
Julie noticed this. She tugged on Sean’s arm, trying to get his attention. “The second item is up, an antique vase. Are you going to bid?”
Sean glanced at the vase on the stage but said nothing.

Quincy sneered at Tracy. “See that? That is what someone from a prominent family looks like. Generous, bidding tens of millions at once. I bet all the money you have isn’t even enough to cover the scraps. Who are you counting on to pay for you? You’re not still expecting Mr. Johnson to foot the bill, are you? Give up on that. His fiancée is right here. Why would he help you?”
She said this deliberately for Julie to hear, to let the lady from the White family know what kind of person Tracy was, and to annoy Tracy in the process.
She felt great thinking that Ms. White would be on their side against Tracy in the future.
Tracy shot Quincy a sidelong glance, then raised her paddle again. “Sixty million.”
This was the highest price she could offer. She couldn’t go any higher. She prayed internally that no one else would bid.
But who knew, from behind her, Sean’s voice suddenly rang out. “One hundred million.” Tracy’s heart jumped. She instinctively turned to look at Sean, her eyes filled with disbelief.
It was one thing for others to bid against her, but Sean, too? Was he also going to step on her? Her heart, in that moment, felt as if it were being sliced apart.
