Seeing how Stella behaved, Elara couldn’t help but call her shameless in her mind. ‘Seriously, what’s with playing the pity card in front of someone else’s husband? Doesn’t she know Albert is already married to Elnora?’

If she weren’t holding back, Elara would’ve loved nothing more than to boot Stella right back into the shadows. She should go back to hiding and crying like she was before she found her.

But as soon as Albert showed up, Stella came out of the corner sobbing. Elara didn’t know what she was trying to pull. ‘Is she trying to make it look like Elnora and I were picking on her?’

Elnora cast a glance at Elara, who was standing right next to her. The expression on her face said it all. She was totally caught up in her own inner drama.

Stella bit her lip, her voice quivering with tears as she looked at Albert. “Albert, it’s okay now. You really didn’t have to come all this way. I’ll stay at a hotel tonight.”

Elara listened to Stella’s manipulative, honey-smothered words and was struggling to keep her temper in check.

While Elara was practically fuming, Elnora stayed cool as ever.

She stood across from Albert, meeting his gaze with a calm, unreadable expression, her voice steady. “Looks like you really went out of your way to come here, Mr. Campbell.”

Albert looked at Elnora, a hint of resignation flickering in his eyes. “If it wasn’t convenient for me, would I even be here?”

Elnora looked away from him, her tone steady and calm. “Why don’t you handle things here first, Mr. Campbell? I’ll get out of your way.”

She moved her gaze to Elara and said quietly, “Let’s go.”

Elara let out a soft “ah,” and seeing Elnora already striding away, she could only hurry to catch up.

As she walked, Elara glanced back and saw Albert still standing there. She took a deep breath, lowered her voice, and whispered to Elnora, “Is it really okay to just leave those two like that? What if something happens?”

Stella looked absolutely pathetic at that moment. Those watery eyes could make anyone want to play the hero.

With a damsel in distress and a knight in a shining armor, one could see there’s bound to be some drama or sparks flying.

Elnora, as his wife, should be shutting that down, not giving them a chance to get close. But Elara couldn’t wrap her head around how Elnora took it.

The Campbell family’s driver saw Elnora and Elara, drove the car over, and stopped right in front of them.

Elnora didn’t wait for the driver to get out and open the door for her. She opened the door herself and got in.

Before getting in, Elara heard Elnora say something in a calm, almost indifferent voice, “If there were going to be drama, it would’ve happened ages ago.”

She was right. It had been ages since Stella and Albert split. If anything were ever going to happen, Albert would’ve ended up with Stella, not Elnora.

Elara clicked her tongue, thinking, ‘Elnora really sees right through everything. Otherwise, why would the Campbell family bend over backwards to bring her into the family?’

If she were in their shoes, she’d marry Elnora into the family, too.

Meanwhile, Albert stood in his place, casting a glance at Elnora as she got into the car and left. His gaze grew somber.

For some reason, he suddenly felt as if he’d been left behind.

Stella emerged from the shadows and moved to stand beside Albert, her gaze tinged with both sadness and concern. “I’m sorry, Albert. Did I make things awkward between you and Ms. Finley?”

Albert kept silent, just looked at Stella with a distant, indifferent expression.

Seeing Albert remain unmoved, Stella drew a shaky breath and bit her lip hard, trying to hold back her

emotions.

“I shouldn’t have called you,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Albert’s gaze was cold and distant. “You knew you shouldn’t, but you still called?”

Stella paused, tears welling up and sliding from the corners of her eyes. She bit her lip hard, her eyes filled with hopelessness.

“I didn’t want to, but I really had no other choice,” her voice barely above a whisper.

“Mrs. Taylor and my sister won’t let me go home, and they’ve frozen my cards. I had nowhere else to go, so I ended up coming to you for help.” As Stella spoke, she wrapped her arms around herself, trembling.

Albert looked at her with cold indifference, making no move to offer her his jacket.

After a long pause, Albert finally pulled out his wallet, took out some cash, and offered it to her.

Stella stared at the money in front of her, frozen for a second.

She bit her lip, her hand staying at her side, not taking it.

This was nothing like what she’d imagined.

Albert reached out again, pushing the cash a little closer to her, his voice flat. “Next month, I’ll take it out of your pay.”

Stella’s expression froze. Albert had spelled it out. If she kept hesitating, she’d look like her situation wasn’t all that desperate. So, Stella reached out and took the cash from Albert.

She muttered quietly, “Thank you.”

She bit her lip, her lashes quivering as she struggled to hold back her tears.

Albert shot Stella a cold glance, then withdrew his gaze and headed for his car.

Watching Albert walk away with such finality, Stella drew a shaky breath and called after him.

“Albert, truth is, I’ve been regretting it all year!” she said, her voice trembling.

‘I should never have let him go,’ Stella thought, the regret eating her up inside.

Albert didn’t even look back; his voice was emotionless, “Everyone should bear the consequences of their choices. There’s no cure for regret in this world.”

Stella was so overwhelmed by Albert’s words that she broke down, unable to even speak through her tears.

She bit her lip hard, watching as Albert walked away, his figure growing more distant. She took a shaky breath, then suddenly rushed forward and hugged him tightly from behind.

“Albert!” Stella called out, her voice trembling. “I really love you. I never imagined I’d truly lose you!”

Albert firmly peeled Stella’s fingers off him, his movements cold and unyielding.

“Ms. Taylor, please mind yourself. I’m someone else’s husband now,” he said, his voice cold.

Stella froze, feeling a rush of embarrassment. Her cheeks turned red, and she nodded awkwardly, her head lowered. “I know,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

“I know I’ve lost you for good. But I just wanted to hug you. Just one last time.”

Albert cut Stella off coldly. “Please, have some self-respect.” With that, he walked away without looking back.

As he walked past the trash can, Albert took off his suit jacket and casually tossed it in, not even sparing it a glance.

Stella was stunned, watching as Albert tossed his jacket into the trash like it was nothing, not even hesitating. ‘Is he really that disgusted by me?’

Humiliation washed over her. ‘He just threw away his jacket after I hugged him, like it was contaminated.

Thinking about how Albert used to take care of her and how he did everything he could to help her escape the Taylor family, Stella couldn’t handle how distant he’d become.

She covered her mouth, unable to hold back her tears anymore. Slowly, she crouched down, burying her face in her arms as she just broke down, sobbing quietly.

Albert drove out of the parking lot. He caught Stella in the corner of his eye, but his expression stayed cold. Without a second thought, he hit the gas and took off.

Stella’s shoulders trembled as she listened to the roar of the sports car fading away. Tears streamed down her

face as she finally lifted her head, barely able to catch her breath.

All she saw was the taillights of the car speeding away, vanishing into the night.
