Maybe it’s just my luck or the fact that we make a great team with the vampires, but the four of us are on the twelfth floor of the Royal dungeon. I don’t know how we got this far without anyone noticing. I mean, we’re not exactly inconspicuous. The vampires stand out a lot. Every time we passed someone, my heart began to race, but no one batted an eye. I was even greeted by one of the guards when we walked past him.

“Are they compelled?” I whisper.

“It’s likely,” the vampire king is the one to answer..

“Wolves aren’t capable of that. Shadow or not,” Ragnar adds.

“You’re right,” he agrees.

I can see how unsettling that is etched on his face. He’s looking around in the same manner we were when all of this started. At this point, I’m not surprised a vampire is involved. I’m sure that the family they relieved of their obligations had people who loved them. Kind of like my grandmother and Elise.

At the end of the corridor, we find what we’re looking for. The Kings are sitting in glass cells, wearing nothing but a pair of white sweatpants. The two of them sit up from the carpeted floor to look between us. They lean over to look past us to see if anyone else is coming.

“We’re real,” I say to break the ice.

I tap the glass to show them we’re not a hallucination. I would definitely think it was a dream if I were being rescued by people who are not my friends or family. Aurora looks over at me with a smile, probably hearing how awkward I am.

“Sophia,” the Rogue King lets out a heavy sigh. “Just like a Helvig to figure out something is wrong.”

“Ragnar helped,” I point back at him.

“Might as well be a Helvig,” the Alpha king laughs.

“How do we get you out?” I ask.

“You’re asking us?”

“Sorry, I’m new to the military stuff. I’ve only been on two other missions,” I shrug.

“One hundred per cent success rate,” Ragnar smirks.

“Keypad,” the Rogue King taps the glass to far right. “You need this shit’s DNA.”

“Nice,” Aurora says, reaching into her pocket.

“Are you guys okay? Do you need medical treatment? How are you in here? Why? Did they catch you guys together? What happened?” I blurt out in one breath and step closer to them to see if there are any wounds.

“We were together, actually. There were smoke bombs, and we woke up here. I believe you two know Francis Stone.” The Rogue King turns his attention to the vampires. The two of them look at one another as if what is happening finally clicks for them.

“Ohh,” Aurora sings and crosses her arms over her chest in a very teasing manner. “Who’s going soft now, old man?”

“No, I can explain,” her father laughs.

“We can hash this out later. Did that shadow wolf guy come get more blood from you?” I ask.

“Yes, he just left,” the Rogue King steps out of the cell, towering over me with the most annoyed expression I’ve ever seen. “Did Santiago lose his fucking mind? Why are you out here? Shouldn’t you be in bed by now?”

“Excuse me?” I glare at him. His hand covers my mouth as he moves in to crowd me.

“You are an omega, young lady. You have no-” before he can finish that sentence, Ragnar shoves him so hard his back makes a loud slapping sound against the armored wall behind him.

“Don’t you ever put your filthy fucking hands on my mate again,” he growls, taking a protective stance in front of me.

“Wait,” the Alpha King puts himself between them to prevent a fight breaking out. He looks at me and shifts on his feet, processing what Ragnar just said. “He married the beta.” No one answers him, but he smiles and looks up at Ragnar. “Congrats, man. I’m glad you came to terms with the mark. You didn’t need that.”

“We should go before we call attention to ourselves anymore,” I say, stepping out from behind Ragnar. I take my dart and shoot them both.

“Thought you said you didn’t want that power?” Ragnar smirks.

“I don’t, but he attacked me. I feel safer now,” I admit. Aurora lets out a heavy laugh.

Because no one else is listening, I take the lead. I take us back the way we came. I listen for any movement, finding none. Once we get to the top floor again, we head toward where we parked the cars.

“Where is everyone?” Aurora asks.

“They’re compelled. The alarms are off, and the cameras don’t seem to be working. Those who work here are compelled to continue their shift without remembering what they’re really doing. To them, it’s just a normal day,” the Alpha King explains. “I sided with the Vampires on this one,” he glances over at Ragnar. “There are just some things we shouldn’t unleash upon the world. I told you that in Russia.”

“How about not making things like that?” Ragnar rolls his eyes like a total brat. I smile and then stop when a target enters the zone of detection.

“We have to go. One of them is here,” I say and push the door open. They all follow me out. We get to the cars, and I immediately reach for the Alpha King with the scanner Ivar had given me, thinking that Santiago was tapping my phone or trying to keep track of me. “You have a tracker on your thigh. Do I have permission to remove it?”

“Are you qualified?” he asks.

“She is,” Ragnar answers him. He nods.

“So, how did you end up with the Lycans?” he asks me.

“I am a Lycan, sir,” I say, showing him. He groans when I cut into his thigh with my knife. I crush the tiny chip and flick it at Aurora. She catches it with a big smile on her face and tucks it.

“Thank you,” she beams.

“Do not encourage her behavior,” her father growls at me.

“Look, sir. A girl needs a hobby. Consider yourself lucky that she doesn’t collect the whole person,” I roll my eyes as I finish helping patch up the incision. I move on to the Rogue King.

“I apologize for the way I acted. But I still stand by what I said,” he catches my hand when I crush the chip. “These hands are steady, little one. They need to be protected at all costs. You must be protected at all costs. Santiago was lost. His mother isn’t like us. She’s damaged just like her father.”

“They’re all dead,” I inform him. “The guys pretending to be you two lost Artume City to us. We know.”

“And you didn’t think we’d fight back once we knew?” he asks. I hold up my dart gun.

“A lot has changed since the last time I saw you, asshole,” I let my anger flare. “There’s not a single place on this planet you can hide where I wouldn’t be able to find you. It’s up to you if you want to get out of this, but you should know that you are all a gift to my mate. Do as he says, and everything will be just fine.”
