Chapter 595

Reese told the maid to clear the table, then left Elnora’s office and headed next door to Albert’s.

Albert had just finished a video conference.

He raised an eyebrow when Reese walked in without even knocking.

“Mom, you stormed in here like a cop on a mission. Anyone else would think I committed some huge crime. Are you here to haul me off?” Albert joked.

Reese let out a cold snort, took a seat across from him, and spoke in a frosty tone, “Honestly, in your marriage to Elnora, you’re no different from a criminal.”

Albert raised an eyebrow and shot back, “Mom, don’t pin this on me. I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m practically a saint, keeping myself spotless.”

Reese let out a cold snort.

“I still haven’t called you out for what you pulled at the wedding, and you dare to sass me now?” she snapped.

Albert rubbed his temples and said calmly, “There was a reason for it.”

Reese slammed her hand down on the desk, fixing Albert with a steely glare and a stormy look. “Let me make this clear. Elnora is the only one I’ll ever recognize as my daughter-in-law.

‘If you piss her off and she leaves, you can pack your bags and go too.”

Albert raised an eyebrow, sounding helpless. “Mom, look at her. Does she look like someone who’d run off because of me?”

She didn’t even get mad at me.

Honestly, your son’s the one who’s about to die young from all this stress,” he added.

Reese let out another cold snort and shot him a glare.

Albert spotted the maid behind Reese, carrying a lunch basket, and waved her over.

Let’s see what delicious treats you brought today,” he said.

The maid glanced at Reese for permission.

Reese nodded, and only then did the maid set the lunch basket down on Albert’s desk.

Albert opened the lunch basket, and the maid started clearing all the documents off his desk to make room.

As he took out the dishes, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow-clearly Reese had already stopped by Elnora’s place tirst

Looks like Elnora got first dibs, and only after she finished did Reese send the food over to him.

‘Mom, Albert said, “you’re so obvious about your favoritism.”

Reese shot him a look and reached for the lunch basket.

“This wasn’t even meant for you. Elnora was kind enough to leave you a little bit, and you still have the nerve to complam

Reese said

Albert quickly grabbed the lunch basket.

“Geez, Mom, lighten up!” he teased. “I’m more than happy to take whatever my wife left for me.”

The maid smiled as she took the plates out of the basket and set them on the table.

That was when Albert noticed that Elnora had only eaten from the edges of each dish.

But one plate had a clear line down the middle.

One side was completely empty, while the other was untouched.

His mom wasn’t lying.

Elnora had deliberately saved his portion. She left his side of the plate completely untouched.

The dish was a celery stir-fry with meat.

Elnora must really love this dish, since she polished off her half without leaving a single bite behind.

Albert took the fork from the maid, scooped up some celery stir-fry, and popped it into his mouth.

The maid was about to say something, but when she saw Albert chewing slowly and actually savoring the taste, she decided to keep her thoughts to herself.

She’d worked for the Campbell family for years and could recite all their food quirks and taboos in her sleep.

If her memory served her right, Albert never ate celery.

But now, here he was, eating it like it was his favorite thing in the world. Honestly, she could hardly believe her eyes.

Reese crossed her arms, watching Albert eat with a nonchalant gaze and a subtle smile playing at the corners of her lips.

Watching Albert, who never touched celery, clean off the plate of celery stir-fry Elnora had left for him, her smile deepened.

Turned out, all her worries were unnecessary.

Elnora really was clever.

She knew just how to tame her troublesome son.

After finishing his meal, Albert set down his fork, grabbed a napkin from the side, and wiped his mouth.

“Are you dropping off lunch again tomorrow?” he asked.

Reese replied, “Not tomorrow. I’ve got a charity dinner to attend. Want to come with me?”

Albert just gave a casual “oh, clearly not interested.

Reese cut him off, “Not allowed.”

He refused her outright.

Reese nodded, stood up, and said coolly, “Then you’re on your own for lunch.”

Then you’re on your own for lunch.

Albert glanced at the maid behind Reese. “Just have the chef at home whip something up, and have Sharon bring it over Drop it off at Ms. Finley’s office, and then just let me know so I can join her for lunch.”

Reese could see right through Albert’s little scheme.

“Elnora won’t be eating at the office tomorrow either. She’s coming with me to the charity dinner at Skyline International,” Reese said.

“I’m planning to take her there early so she can get to know some of the other ladies,” she added.

“Looks like you’re on your own for lunch tomorrow,” Reese said.

With that, Reese strode out of Albert’s office.

Albert was about to speak, but Reese was already out of earshot.

Once the maid finished tidying up the desk, she followed suit and left.

Albert sat in his chair, lost in thought.

Once the maid closed the door behind her, he pulled out his phone and made a call.

“Who’s hosting the charity dinner at Skyline International tomorrow?” he asked.

Kaelin said, “No clue, I haven’t really kept up with it. Why, you got your eye on something? If there’s a piece you like, I can pull some strings and have it sent straight to the Campbell family.”

Albert lounged in his chair, legs casually propped up on the desk, swinging them back and forth with a lazy air.

“Hook me up with an invitation. I’m coming along,” he said.

Kaelin perked up at Albert’s words.

“You’re actually going? Since when do you care about these kinds of parties?” he asked.

Albert said. “Enough with the chatter. Just make sure I get that invitation first thing tomorrow morning.”

Kaelin replied, “Sure thing. I’ll have it handled in half an hour.”

Albert said, “Thanks.”

Kaelin joked, “Forget the thanks-just buy me a drink and hook me up with some fun tonight.”

Albert scoffed, “Buzz off.”

He hung up and got up to leave his office.

As soon as he stepped out, he saw Stella come out of the elevator, accompanied by Kamron.

Albert’s brow furrowed when he saw Kamron.

Kamron was all smiles as he greeted Albert, “Albert.”

Albert nodded, and seeing this, he instantly got the picture.

Kamron was probably the investor Stella had brought in.

Albert didn’t say a word, just gave Stella a detached look.

Just then. Elnora’s office door swung open.

Kamron looked at Albert with a carefree grin, totally unbothered.

“Albert, relax. What you asked. Consider it done. Ms. Taylor will be well taken care of, I promise,” Kamron said.

Stella stood beside Kamron, her gaze tender and full of gratitude as she looked at Albert, clearly touched.

Elnora stood quietly in the doorway, listening to every word Kamron said. Her face stayed perfectly calm. She just glanced at Albert, then looked away.

Albert was speechless.

If he tried to explain that he had nothing to do with this, Elnora wouldn’t believe him for a second, not even a single word.
