Hearing his father’s demand, Chase shrieked as if his tail had been stepped on. “What? Dad, you want us to apologize to Tracy? Why? I’m not going!”
Apologize to Tracy? That was the same as admitting they were inferior to her, that they had framed her out of pure jealousy. How was that possible? He would never apologize to Tracy. He’d rather die.
Yvonne gripped her skirt, biting her lip. But a moment later, she looked up obediently at Trevor. “Dad, if it will make her feel better, I can apologize. But I’m afraid she won’t forgive us. After all, she works for Vector, and Jared was just suppressing their company. She won’t forgive us that easily.”
With just a few words, she had wiped her hands clean, making it sound as if Jared was the one responsible for everything.
Jared’s expression remained calm, but he was seething internally. How had he never noticed how selfish Yvonne was? Perhaps she had hidden it too well, or perhaps they had all been fooled by her innocent facade.
He had also overheard Trevor’s conversation with his friend. He had been on his way to talk to Trevor and had heard every word. It was a thunderbolt: he wasn’t the only one who had doubts about Yvonne’s character.
A sharp voice cut through the room. “Ms. Xander certainly loves the spotlight. You’re stealing the show from the host. Don’t you feel the least bit ashamed?”
