Chapter 223 A Debt of Gratitude

Tracy and Felix were deep in conversation when a sarcastic voice cut in from behind.

She turned slightly. Andy was walking toward them, a sneer on his face. “I saw you trying to seduce Mr. Gaunt the other day. What’s the matter? He wouldn’t take the bait, so you’ve moved on to other men? A person with your morals just got lucky with that exam. What’s there to be so proud of? Do you think getting first place makes you safe? If you don’t deliver results, you’ll be kicked right back out.”

He couldn’t believe Tracy had used her low-class tricks on Yvonne, of all people. He adored Yvonne, so he couldn’t stand Tracy’s actions. He’d already seen the news online. The only reason he hadn’t confronted Tracy sooner was that his father had ordered him to negotiate a partnership with Vector.

He’d been rejected by Sam. When his father personally called to ask why, he was told it was because Andy had previously offended Tracy.

His father had chewed him out and given him one week to apologize to Tracy, earn her forgiveness, and secure the contract.

Andy was furious. Why should he? What part of a person like Tracy deserved any respect? Seeing her so close with Felix only deepened his prejudice.

Tracy smiled. “You seem to have forgotten what your father tasked you with. What, are you going to defy your father’s orders just to defend Yvonne? Does he know? I’d advise you to choose your next words carefully. It would be a shame if you got another beating and then tried to pin the blame on me. I can’t be responsible for that.”

Back when her AI diagnostic research was in its infancy, the Shanks family had been the first to fund them. That seed money was why their subsequent research had gone so smoothly. Tracy was deeply grateful to Andy’s father. When the older man called, she had immediately agreed to the partnership. This was just a test. She wanted to prick Andy’s ego.

Andy’s face darkened. He stared at her, shocked. “How did you know what my father said?”

He remembered it was just the two of them when his father was yelling at him. How could she possibly know? This woman was not to be underestimated. She had so many supporters, even his own father. And now she’d said it in public, humiliating him. Despicable!

Tracy gave him a mysterious smile, “I also know he ordered you to apologize. Is this your idea of an apology? Should I tell him that, for the sake of a woman, you not only refused to apologize but also insulted me? I recorded everything you just said. You’d better not provoke me. Otherwise, I’ll send this recording straight to your father.”

“You…” Andy’s face was purple with rage. “How do you even know my dad? Why would he listen to you? Stop bluffing!”

How could an orphan like Tracy know his father? His father had only secured his position as the family heir because he’d had the foresight to fund “Z’ all those years ago. The success of the Al diagnostic had caused both their company and Vector to rise, all thanks to Z’s work. Shanks Corp, being a family enterprise, had grown much larger. Vector was just a small company with no power. If not for the Al diagnostic, it would have gone bankrupt long ago.

Chapter 203 A Debt of Gratitude

Tracy raised an eyebrow. “You want to know? Go ask your dad. I’m not your mother; I’m not going to put up with your nonsense. I will be telling your father how you disrespected me. Don’t think you’re so noble, judging everyone from your imaginary moral high ground. You’re blind. Your father isn’t. It’s a shame you didn’t inherit any of his intelligence or sharp intuition.”

Andy’s father had taken over the Shanks family in middle age, but he was a brave and brilliant strategist. When the old patriarch retired, he became president of Shanks Corp. Back when her project was in its earliest R&D, Vector had been in crisis. No one believed in them. It was Mr. Shanks who stepped up and invested one hundred million, pulling them through. Others invested later, but his unconditional faith had put her deeply in his debt. So, when he called about a new project, she had agreed without hesitation.

It was just a pity he had such a disappointing son, who repeatedly picked fights with her over a woman. It showed his character was poor. An opportunistic, biased person could never be trusted with real responsibility.
