Chapter 229 A Barbed Offer

These were the very words the Xander family had always used to humiliate her. Now, she was throwing them right back.
But strangely, they were the ones who got angry. It seems you only feel the pain of a weapon when it hits you.
Jared was speechless once again.
The words were painfully familiar. They had said them to Tracy often, trying to make her back down. But now, hearing them from her, he felt a heavy, stifling sensation in his chest that he couldn’t describe.
Even though Yvonne and Chase were wrong, Tracy’s aggressive, unyielding stance was infuriating.
He fought to control his anger. “Tracy, we’re offering you a way out. You should just take it. I already offered to double your salary. What more do you want? Everything you have right now could be gone in an instant. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll quit your job and start at Xander Corp immediately. If you do that, we might even learn to respect you. Otherwise, you can forget about ever coming back to this family.”
At the company, he was the boss. At home, he was the patriarch. He was used to being in command, to being admired. But in front of Tracy, he was being treated as worthless. How could he not be angry?
Tracy clapped her hands slowly, a cold smile on her lips. “You give Yvonne five percent of Xander Corp, but you offer me a handout of a ‘salary. How fair. You want me to bring the contract to Xander Corp? Fine. I’ll agree on one condition: you kick that usurping mother and daughter out of this house. I’ll give you ten seconds to think about it. When time’s up, I’ll just assume you don’t want the contract.”
She knew they would never choose her over Yvonne and her mother. She just wanted to make them squirm. They had been completely brainwashed. There was no way they would ever kick them out.
Since they had been so ruthless, she had no reason to be kind. They wanted to use moral blackmail? She could play that game, too.
Chase was so angry his chest hurt. He pointed at Tracy, sputtering, “Tracy, don’t you go too far! You’re just trying to make this impossible for us!”
He truly hadn’t expected this to be her condition. To kick Yvonne and Faye out? How dare she!
Even Yvonne and Faye were stunned. That bitch! How dare she make such a demand! They

couldn’t leave the Xander family’s protection, not before their plan was in motion.

Yvonne’s eyes filled with tears as she choked out, “I can apologize to you. Please, just don’t make us leave, okay?”
Tracy shook her off. “You’re right. I am making this impossible for you. But I have the contract, and I’ll give it to whomever I please. You have five seconds left. I’m giving you the choice, but only this once. You’d better think clearly. Five… four… three… two…”
“Enough!” Jared’s deep voice cut her off. “Tracy, I used to think you were just ill-mannered, but now I see you are rotten to the core. You know Faye raised us, and you know we’ve doted on Yvonne since she was a child, yet you still make this demand. You’re doing this on purpose. You won’t be happy until you’ve destroyed our entire family, will you?”
He was bitterly disappointed. He had actually listened to his friend and felt that he owed Tracy, that he should bring her back and make it up to her. But now, he saw there was no point.
Trevor sighed and tried to reason with her. “Tracy, Faye has been in this family for so many years. Even if she has no great merits, she has worked hard. You shouldn’t ask for this. I know you’re resentful. But all these years, I’ve had the finance department send you and your mother money every single month. For my sake, can’t you just help the company? If you want shares, I can give you shares. Just help us.”
He was out of options. A third of their partners had already called to cancel their contracts. If they didn’t find a solution, Xander Corp would go under. He had no choice but to beg Tracy.
Tracy looked up at Trevor. “Oh, really? Because my mother and I never received a single cent. We nearly starved to death.”
She hadn’t even thought about it. But since he’d brought it up, it was time to confront them, lest they continue to believe they had done her and her mother any favors.
