Chapter 240 A Blind Date
“He’s messing with you while seeing other women? He’s a total scumbag!”
Tracy shook her head, her expression indifferent. “Natalie, please don’t say he likes me anymore. Whatever he does with other women has nothing to do with me. I’m the one who’s always troubling him. The fact that he’s helped me this much means he’s already gone above and beyond.”
A man like Sean, with his family background and flawless looks, must have countless women lined up for him. He might one day choose someone to settle down with, but his wife would undoubtedly be his equal, someone from a matching family. She had seen too many political and corporate marriage alliances to be surprised by it.
It was just like with the White family. The man had loved Faye, but in the end, he had married a wealthy heiress. Faye, at least, was lucky-and deeply calculating. She had gotten pregnant and managed to trap Tracy’s father, making him play the fool and raise another man’s child for twenty years.
These messy relationships all pointed to one simple fact: no matter how much a powerful man loved a woman, he would ultimately accept an arranged marriage.
At this thought, Tracy felt a sense of clarity. She had too much to do. She couldn’t afford to get lost in romantic entanglements.
Natalie sighed, chewing on her straw. “I just didn’t expect him to be that kind of person. I thought he was different. But then again, he’s been so good to you, Tracy. Genuinely good. It’s just a shame.”
Her best friend’s life was just too tragic. She had relied on her mother, only for her mother to pass away right after graduation. She thought she had found security in marriage, only for that scumbag, Chandler, to cheat on her with her own stepsister. Now, she’d finally found a good man, and he turned out to be a player, too.
“You couldn’t even make this stuff up for a novel!” Natalie muttered. She truly ached for Tracy.
“It’s nothing to be sad about.” Tracy shook her head. “I’m used to it. I don’t rely on anyone. I can be perfectly fine on my own. Natalie, I think we, as women, should focus on our careers. I’ve already fallen once. I’m not going to fall a second time.”
Love was the most helpless of emotions. It sneaks up on you, and suddenly, you’re in deep. That’s how it was with Sean. But for now, at least, she could still suppress it. She just couldn’t let herself fall any further.
Natalie pulled out her phone and dialed a number. “Tracy, I don’t trust you with anyone else. How about I call my brother over? You two can have a blind date. I can’t vouch for anyone else,

but I can vouch for my brother. If he dares to bully you, I’ll beat him to death.”
Tracy tried to stop her, but it was too late. The call had already connected.

A headache bloomed in Tracy’s temples. She heard Natalie say, “I’m at the café across from your office with Tracy. Get over here!”
Tracy: “…”
I want to run. How do I get out of this?
Less than ten minutes later, Bryan walked into the café. Natalie shot up and waved him over.
He strode over, and Tracy smiled politely. “Hello.”
He nodded, ordered an iced americano, and his gaze instinctively settled on Tracy.
Sean had noticed Tracy the moment she walked in, but he hadn’t paid much attention. They were sitting too far apart to hear anything. It was only when Bryan showed up, and Tracy seemed to know him-laughing and chatting happily with him-that Sean started to get restless.
He was only here to humor his mother, on a date he couldn’t get out of. And now Tracy was sitting right there, laughing with another man. They were even sitting close, sharing a sofa. He was keeping a safe distance from the woman across from him, but Tracy had no sense of boundaries at all.
A knot of jealousy tightened in his gut. It was an awful feeling. Watching the two of them, he couldn’t sit still.
The woman across from him, oblivious to the change in his mood, held a potato chip up to his mouth. “Sean, try this. It’s delicious.”
This was the exact moment Tracy looked over. Her eyes met Sean’s. She quickly looked away and went back to laughing with Bryan.
She didn’t see Sean turn his head, avoiding the chip, before getting up and walking to the
restroom.
The trio, meanwhile, was having a great time, thanks to Natalie’s energy. Bryan and Tracy were deep in a discussion about professional matters, and as always, when Tracy talked about her work, she was exceptionally confident.
Watching Tracy light up, truly shining, Natalie was so happy for her. After being trapped by her emotions for so long, Tracy was finally breaking free.
