Chapter 67 Not Invited

Alfred went quiet as his hope refused to fade.

He stared at his sister, yet Maya only waved with a bright smile. “Bye, Alfred. I’ll see you later!”

Annie kept a clean and narrow social circle.

She spent her time with familiar friends as they sipped tea, took photos, and talked about fashion or light gossip.

The activity room she brought Maya into opened onto a wide terrace. The sky stretched out in a deep blue, and small round tables displayed elegant desserts and carefully arranged dishes.

Maya saw this kind of school life for the first time.

The moment she stepped inside, a faint perfume drifted through the air. Soft sounds of porcelain cups meeting filled the space as laughter rose and fell.

Girls filled every corner of the room.

For a moment, Maya felt lightheaded as the scent wrapped around her senses.

Is this paradise?

“Hey, Annie, why did you bring a younger student today?”

“This is Maya, Toby’s sister,” Annie said with ease as she introduced her. I brought her here to eat and meet people.”

Annie noticed Maya’s unease and guided her forward with calm assurance. She picked up a delicate porcelain plate filled with desserts and handed it over. “Try this. You’ll like it.”

Maya accepted it and sat at the edge on a vine-wrapped chair.

She looked careful yet curious as she took small bites and watched everything around her.

A few lively girls gathered around her at once. They showed interest in her identity and started asking questions with bright excitement.

They asked about her weekend plans and invited her to galleries or private parties.

This circle held strict layers, and everyone valued status and background.

Children from privileged families matured early, so age gaps rarely mattered. Many kids near Maya’s age moved through the space with ease.

Everyone stayed within their own circle.

Maya followed their pace and soon blended into the lively mood.

She didn’t care about fashion topics, so she stayed quiet and focused on eating.

Chapter 67 Not invited

She felt genuinely hungry.

Halfway through, Annie suddenly spoke with a sharp tone.

“Maya, tell me honestly. Does your brother have a problem with his… bits down there?”

Maya froze as the question landed.

A girl nearby slipped while doing her makeup and drew a crooked line. Maya almost choked on her drink.

She lifted her face and kept her expression innocent. “Why would you think that?”

She told herself she did not understand anything. She was still a child.

“I feel like his mood stays low, and sometimes he acts strange,” Annie said as she recalled their time together.

That state felt distant and unclear to her. She thought he was limp.

Maya paused for two seconds before she chose to defend Toby. “That can’t be true. At home, he acts intense, and I don’t even dare look at him for more than three seconds.”

She always feared he might snap again.

When Annie still looked unsure, Maya added another point. “With his personality, it’s already rare that no one has taken him down outside.”

There was no way he stayed calm or low like that.

Annie paused and then laughed at her wording.

She had always handled things well as his partner.

She dealt with people who bothered Toby and cleaned up every situation after he walked away.

That pattern wore her down over time.

She had tried to take control before, yet Toby stayed guarded and sharp.

The moment something felt off, he turned the blame back on her.

“I treat you well, so why aren’t you satisfied?”

“Why would a good girlfriend ask for so much?”

“I’ve given you everything. What more do you want?”

Each time she heard those lines, Annie felt nothing except a faint urge to laugh.

Toby lived with a deeply self-centered nature.

If he liked someone, he wanted them to thrive. If he disliked someone, he wanted them gone.

He acted like a child in that sense.

Right now, anger filled him.

George kept sending messages and calling in every possible way, and the constant disturbance drained him. At the same time, Toby watched Maya closely because he feared she might fall into George’s hands.

After several days, his mind felt worn thin.

Even the smallest shift around him made him tense and restless.

He began to suspect George did this on purpose to push him further.

At that moment, Toby lay in a quiet lounge and tried to rest. He closed his eyes for barely two seconds before someone walked in. “Hey, I just saw your sister with your girlfriend heading to the girls’ activity

room.”

Toby jolted upright at once.

He rubbed his head as his voice turned low and cold, almost like he spoke to himself. “How did those two end up together?”

He remembered that Annie used to keep a polite distance from Maya and only watched over her.
