Chapter 82 An Unexpected Visitor

Honesty didn’t work very well at home-speaking your mind too freely was a good way to get smacked.

Seeing that no one was commenting, Raymond casually pulled Maya into his arms and showed her the magazine. “So, what do you think, Maya? They say slicking your bangs back makes you look more like a successful businessman.”

He never remembered to trim his bangs anyway, and they were starting to get in his eyes.

Might as well just comb them back.

Maya tried her best to imagine her usually unkempt dad in a fitted suit and tie, hair slicked back like a proper adult…

“I think it might be kind of a disaster.” The little girl answered honestly, reaching out to tug at his bangs. “Your current hairstyle is already great, really, Dad! Otherwise, the harder you try, the sadder it might get.”

Raymond was very pale, like some reclusive tech nerd. He also had a faint, low-key presence that lacked warmth.

Now, the world was a very tolerant place, and people had all kinds of tastes. Even quiet, low-energy men had their audience.

But slicked-back hair? Absolutely not.

Raymond pinched her cheek, unconcerned, with a relaxed smile in his tone. “I think it looks great. When I get back from overseas, I’ll style it properly and surprise you all.”

But before leaving, Raymond had no idea that before he could return and surprise his family, his useless former colleagues and subordinates would beat him to it, delivering a completely earth-shattering surprise.

School life went on as usual.

Maya and Alfred continued their daily routine of zoning out and sleeping through class.

The teachers mostly turned a blind eye to the two of them.

Lately, no one at school bothered provoking them anymore.

After all, there was a very clear example to learn from.

Rufus, who used to lead the troublemaking, had recently been expelled-for the ridiculous reason of “stepping into the classroom with his left foot first.”

The kids in the international program might have bad tempers, but they had sharp instincts. The moment they realized certain people weren’t to be messed with, they immediately backed off and kept their heads

down.

For a while, the siblings’ school life became unusually peaceful.

Chapter 92 An Unexpected Visitor

When Harmony International School was first built, Thomas had invested quite a bit into it. The school didn’t have much historical prestige, so it was more like a carefully designed playground for the children of the elite.

Its internal resources, facilities, and especially its security system were top-tier.

It was practically impossible for ordinary parents to just come and go as they pleased.

Without the right background, even entering the campus freely was difficult.

And Thomas, as one of the shareholders, naturally had certain privileges.

After unexpectedly seeing a girl who looked strikingly similar to Lawrence, the thought had kept him up all night. The very next day, he contacted the elementary international program’s administrator.

After receiving permission, he arrived early and waited in the office for news.

He wanted to see Maya.

Once all the students had gradually arrived, the homeroom teacher picked up her laptop and prepared to leave. Thomas quickly stopped her, doing his best to keep his tone calm as he made his request. “Excuse me, could you call Maya over for a moment? I’d like to speak with her briefly.”

For such a small matter, the teacher naturally agreed.

However…

She hesitated, giving Thomas a careful look.

Of course, she knew who he was. He was Kaia’s father.

But what confused her was why this father had come so early to school, only to ask for another child instead of his own daughter.

Meeting Thomas’s calm, unreadable gaze, she pushed down her doubts and lightly tapped on the desk to wake the sleeping Maya.

“Maya, someone is here to see you.”

Still half-asleep, Maya rubbed her eyes.

Hearing that someone was looking for her, she instinctively assumed it was Toby sending someone to keep an eye on her again out of boredom.

Standing outside the classroom, Thomas took a deep breath.

He stared straight at the sleepy little girl in front of him, her hair slightly messy and sticking up.

For the first time, he could finally observe her up close.

The familiar contours of her features hit him again and again, like waves crashing through his mind.

Thomas almost instinctively wanted to pull her into a hug.

But the moment Maya recognized his face, she was fully awake.

She took two cautious steps back, silently staring at him.

Ever since the parent-teacher meeting, she had expected to see this deadbeat dad again soon.

She just hadn’t expected it to be this fast.

Was he really that impatient?

The man softened his voice as much as possible, with a hint of caution even he didn’t notice.

“Hey there, your name is Maya, right?”

Maya filted her head, stared at him for two seconds, then put on an impatient expression and spoke bluntly.
