Be The Villas Favonte Daughter

Chapter 114 Growing Pains

The two of them went back and forth arguing inside the pavilion for quite a while.

All the spectators watching the drama were stunned.

They had originally thought Toby had finally gotten bored of noble private school life and was about to stage a real-life sniper showdown at Harmony International School.

They never could have imagined it would turn into a debate match between brother and sister, each one louder than the other.

Maya swayed restlessly in Toby’s arms, unable to stay still for even a second. Toby frowned. “Can you stop squirming around?”

Maya said. “Your skinny skeleton shouldn’t be carrying me in the first place.”

He was all bones. It was uncomfortable.

He tightened his hold around her, leaned closer, and gave her a fake smile. “I’m carrying you anyway.”

Maya fell silent. Ugh, this awful lanky jerk.

She casually swung her dangling legs twice. After being picked up, she looked upward. The angle of everything felt a little unfamiliar.

Maya dragged out her words, sounding half complaining and half genuinely confused.

“Why can you boys grow taller in just one year like you were injected with growth hormones?”

Toby lowered his eyes to look at her but said nothing.

From what she remembered, Lawrence had actually been a little shorter than her when they were younger.

Back then he had been a soft, adorable little sweetheart who used to trail after her, tugging on her clothes and calling, “Maya.” His eyes had been round, his eyelashes long, like a little rabbit.

Then after he turned 10, one day she suddenly realized she had to tilt her head up to look at him.

Weren’t they supposed to be older sister and younger brother?

Give back the height mom gave you.

She wanted to grow to six foot two too.

The unwillingness on Maya’s face was practically overflowing.

“You could drink more milk. Maybe you’d grow a little taller.” His tone stayed flat, like he was stating an objective fact. “You haven’t changed much this past year.”

She had only grown a tiny bit taller than a year ago.

And that tiny bit was almost negligible.

“I don’t like milk. I like junk food.”

Maya started making wishes. “I wonder if some miracle nutritionist can make spicy pretzel sticks healthy someday.”

That way she could eat healthy junk food.

“Maya.” Every word from Toby was filled with irritation. “That stuff tastes so strong. Why would you like it?”

Maya had let him try a bite before.

He had not spit it out, but his expression had not looked good at the time either.

“I also like cotton candy and cake.” Maya enthusiastically shared her food preferences, sounding excited to talk about them. “I can make some desserts too. Do you like them?”

In her previous life, she had liked learning random things to pass the time.

Desserts, knitting, anything that could be used as a hobby to kill time, Maya had learned a little of everything.

She just had a three-minute attention span. She could do them, but not with any real skill.

“No,” he answered coldly.

Maya was deeply disappointed. She leaned close to his ear and spoke in an almost whispering voice.

“You’re really boring. Is your only hobby coming to school, watching a bunch of people orbit around you, and enjoying their praise?”

She ran into him at school all the time.

Every time, she saw a crowd of people around him, all wearing polite practiced smiles and talking nonstop, trying to get closer to him.

Didn’t that annoy him?

Toby had not really been listening closely to what Maya was saying.

Maya felt so light in his arms it was like she weighed almost nothing.

Toby lowered his eyes and looked down at her, zoning out openly.

He was thinking, were girls really that hard to fatten up?

Kids were cuter when they were a little chubby.

Of course, by “a little chubby,” George definitely was not included.

George had been fat as a kid, and their mother had affectionately called him Chunky.

Neither Toby nor Alfred liked that weird dramatic personality of his, so every conversation with him naturally started by calling him fat and warmly greeting their older brother that way.

Chapter 114 Growing Pains

“I only come to school sometimes to find some entertainment,” Toby said, pulling himself back to answer Maya’s question. “The people around me represent different family backgrounds, so they’re somewhat useful. And no, I don’t enjoy it that much.”

He found her words kind of unbelievable too.

So in her eyes, had he always been some idiot?

Just sitting there for fun, listening to a bunch of people praise him with their eyes closed?

“I’m just used to it.”

He did not like it, but he did not reject it that strongly either.

Ever since he was old enough to remember, older members of the family had taken him to all kinds of social events.

In those situations where every sentence had to be carefully calculated, even if he was annoyed to death inside, he could still wear the perfect smile and respond flawlessly.

He had plenty of patience for people above him.

For people below him, he had a little tolerance too, though not much.

The reason he had gone crazy on Maya the first time they met was simply because…

In his eyes back then, she had absolutely no use or value at all.

There had been no reason for him to bother dealing with her. She had not even qualified as someone beneath notice, so he had naturally belittled her and ignored her.
