Chapter 128 No Need to Feel Guilty
Maya hated him, too.
They were blood siblings, yet the way they were treated was worlds apart.
She had always wanted to ask why.
But maybe blood really was the strongest bond.
After spending some time living under the same roof, he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to get close to her.
He would find her when she hid away by herself, and he would look at her carefully with those amber eyes.
But to Maya, that kind of closeness only irritated her.
Being “close” wasn’t what she wanted.
She needed him to choose her fully, not hesitate between her and Kaia.
Maya didn’t want to drag things out and wait for Lawrence’s decision either.
So at one party, she forced Lawrence to go with her.
She knew what would happen.
She knew how those people would treat her.
She needed Lawrence to see it with his own eyes.
Lawrence was a very clingy little brother.
After she disappeared for a while, he started searching everywhere for her.
Just as she expected, he found her.
Maya got exactly what she wanted, showing him how miserable she looked while being bullied.
Was it pity or pain in his eyes?
She wanted to see his reaction before deciding how to deal with this little brother of hers.
When she saw him hugging her and crying, apologizing over and over like his whole world had fallen apart, she finally knew.
Oh.
There was pain in his eyes.
That was great.
In this cruel world, she had finally found someone who would stand firmly on her side.

To be fair, the time they spent relying on each other had actually felt warm in her memory.
Then, Lawrence killed himself.
Maya didn’t break down. That kind of emotion had already been worn away after being bullied so many times.
She still wanted to live.
Even though so many people had said she was an eyesore and that she should die.
She still wanted to live.
She didn’t want to die.
But living was still so hard for her.
After Lawrence died, Thomas finally woke up. He sent Kaia away right away, but it didn’t fix anything.
It felt like the whole world’s hostility was aimed at Maya.
Locking herself in her room was the only way to shut out the gossip from the servants, the housekeeper, the driver, and the rest of the staff.
All they ever said was that it was her fault-Kaia was gone, and even Lawrence had died.
In the end, Maya had had enough.
She had someone get her a gun, pointed it at her temple, and ended her own life.
Quick and clean.
Compared to pain, what came was a long, quiet stillness.
She didn’t have to think about whether she could keep living.
She didn’t have to think about what the future would be like.
There was no sadness, no noise.
Nothing to worry about.
That was it.
By now, Maya had a vague idea of why Lawrence killed himself. It could only have been for her.
He had no one else in this world.
From the moment he felt pain for her, everything he did was only for her.
Maya thought what she did in her past life had been wrong.

Chapter 128 No Need to Feel Guilty
She shouldn’t have dumped her pain on him.
She shouldn’t have let him get close.
They should just separate and stop being tied together.
After all, before she existed, his life had been good.
A luxurious house, a well-off family, a father who doted on him.
As long as she never appeared, everything would’ve been fine.
Finished
After Maya said, “I used to really hate him,” she fell silent.
She lowered her head, lost in thought, her expression looking a little sad.
Wendy felt her own mood sink a little too.
She gently asked, “Why do you hate him?”
Under Wendy’s patient gaze, Maya’s lips moved like she wanted to say something, but she fell quiet again.
In the end, she spoke softly.
“Because we’re siblings, but he’s treated like some rich heir, and I’m stuck in an orphanage. The difference is huge.”
She looked up, a trace of childish resentment in her eyes.
“Why? Why should I have to put up with a life like that?”
That was the truth.
She really had thought that way before.
“I hated him. I was jealous of him. I was jealous of everyone who had it better than me.”
Maya bit her lip and tilted her head up, pushing herself to pour out all her negative emotions to her mother in one breath.
Wendy looked at her and reached out to stroke her hair.
She froze for a moment.
It felt like she hadn’t had a heart-to-heart with her child in the past year.
Wendy could clearly sense the lack of confidence in Maya’s words, like she felt ashamed of these darker feelings.
But why should she be?

Chapter 128 No Need to Feel Guilty
“It’s okay to hate,” the woman said slowly. “It’s okay to feel jealous.
“Every emotion is allowed to exist. There’s no need to feel guilty.”
She pulled Maya into her arms, her voice gentle but firm.
“If you’re not even allowed to feel jealousy or dislike toward others, then life would be too sad.”
She blinked, then suddenly smiled.
“I used to hate rich people too.”
Maya lifted her head from her arms and looked at her seriously.
She really does look like a puppy.
So cute.
