Chapter 129 I Don’t Hate Him Anymore

Wendy couldn’t help but ruffle her hair and give her a kiss.

“Back then, I kept thinking, why couldn’t the rich one be me?”

The first job she ever took was assassinating a powerful business tycoon.

Frosted

The moment she stepped inside the tycoon’s house, the overwhelming luxury made her feel like she had wandered into a completely different world. For a teenage girl, the impact was too much.

She stood at the doorway, staring at the crystal chandeliers, the famous paintings, the antiques, and all the expensive decorations she couldn’t even name. There was only one thought in her mind.

Why?

Why do they get to have so much when I don’t even know where my next meal is coming from?

She hated the feeling.

“Maya, I didn’t grow up in an orphanage, but my parents died when I was young. A lot of kind people in the town raised me. I was probably seven or eight when someone took me in and trained me as I grew up.”

“Unlike Raymond, one of those untouchable people born on top,” Wendy said, “people like us are already doing something incredible just by surviving.”

“You’re allowed to have negative feelings. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sometimes, it’s okay to believe the problem is with someone else.

“You should really stay with Toby for a while.” Wendy sighed. “He rarely reflects on his own issues. He’s always easy on himself and strict with others. You can try to learn from him.”

Maya stayed quiet for a moment, then couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She buried herself in Wendy’s arms and whined playfully, “Mom, the way you talk is so funny!”

Wendy looked so cute whenever she got all solemn.

Hearing Maya’s words, Wendy blinked in confusion. “Am I?”

Looking down at her daughter, who was finally smiling again, Wendy relaxed.

Then, she suddenly asked, “Do you still hate your brother now?”

Maya froze for a second, then shook her head.

“I don’t hate him anymore.”

She lifted her head, and there was a hint of softness in her amber eyes.

“I love him.”

Wendy let out a soft “Oh?” in surprise. “Are you two that close?”

But that didn’t seem right.

They should never have even met before.

How close could siblings who had never met really be?

Wendy couldn’t make sense of it.

Still, she couldn’t help but sigh in amazement. “That’s incredible.”

“He cares about you a lot too,” she said, thinking about what happened during the day. “He even dared to talk back to me for your sake.”

Wendy honestly admired her own self-control for not kicking Lawrence to death on the spot.

“You two haven’t even met, right?”

She looked at Maya and asked the question that had been sitting in her heart. “Are all kids this loyal?

“Or was this just the strange power of blood ties?”

They had never even met, yet Lawrence still dared to confront her for Maya’s sake.

Maya tilted her head back and looked at her, confused.

“He… He came to see you?”

Her expression stiffened.

Something wasn’t right.

None of this was right.

Lawrence…

She knew him too well.

He wasn’t the kind of person who would care about a sister he had never met.

At this point in time, he should still be a clueless, carefree kid.

Besides, he was only six. Without any leads, there was no way he could track Wendy down-let alone confront her directly.

Maya tried to piece together the source of all these strange events.

Wendy felt it was time to give her some space to process everything that had happened today.

She let out a quiet sigh and gently closed the door.

Maya went over every clue she had, putting them together and pulling them apart again and again.

In the end, she could only come to one conclusion-he was just like her.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have done something so pointless. A normal six-year-old could never pull that off.

Maya’s heart tightened. She buried her head under the blanket and kept thinking-if he had been reborn too, then what did he think of her?

It was hard to say.

Human emotions were never simple enough to be reduced to love or hate.

Maya couldn’t read minds.

She didn’t know what Lawrence would think after being reborn.

He had never come looking for her.

And, to be fair, Maya rarely thought about him either.

The past had been full of unhappy memories for both of them.

Staying out of each other’s lives was the best choice.

As long as…

As long as he didn’t interfere with her life.

He had met her mother but didn’t plan to meet her. Instead, he slipped away quietly. What was that supposed to mean?

Maya’s thoughts grew more tangled than ever. She bit her lip, her mind running in circles.

How was she supposed to face him?

And what was she supposed to do next?

Maya said nothing. She pulled the blanket over her face, her eyes wide open in the darkness as they quickly blurred with tears.
