Chapter 133 I Miss You

Maya leaned closer to Alfred and asked, “Guess where Toby will have us stay?”

“No clue.” Alfred shook his head and answered honestly. “He has a lot of houses.”

The properties under Toby’s name were scattered throughout the city’s prime locations, including luxury apartments, secluded villas, and large downtown penthouses.

He could pick any one of them at random, and it would still be more than enough for the two of them to run wild.

“Alfred, do you know how to play games?”

“Games?” Alfred tilted his head. The concept barely existed in his mind.

“Yeah! I can teach you!” Maya was already getting excited.

She remembered Toby played games once in a while too, but he was terrible at it.

He could’ve easily paid someone skilled to carry him, but he insisted on playing himself, taking loss after loss as if he enjoyed it.

With their mother out of sight, the two kids completely let loose.

Toby had been so busy lately that he barely had time to breathe, let alone take care of his little brother and sister.

He simply picked two responsible housekeepers, hired four maids and a chef, plus tutors for every subject, and handed them full responsibility for the kids’ lives from here on out.

As for Toby himself? Maya and Alfred hadn’t seen him ever since they moved in.

After two straight days without seeing Toby, Maya kept obsessing over her plan to catch Lawrence. She made several calls in a row, all just to pester Toby with questions.

The first time she called, she went straight to it. “When is Ms. Lawson’s birthday party?”

Toby was speechless, and he hung up the call.

The second time, Maya decided to go straight for the key point. “The party you mentioned is happening next week, right?”

Toby hung up again.

The third time, Maya spoke quickly before he could hang up. “Can you take me with you?”

Toby still hung up without answering her question.

Maya couldn’t understand why Toby hung up on her three times in a row. She ran over to Alfred and asked, “Is Toby busy or something?”

Based on their conversations, Alfred calmly judged, “If he were busy, he wouldn’t even answer your calls.”

But he still picked up, just to hang up on her three times in a row.

He was too idle.

“Then why won’t he talk to me?” Maya still couldn’t figure out how his mind worked.

Alfred lowered his head, focused on stacking blocks, and answered honestly. “Because he didn’t pick up to listen to you ask about boring stuff like that.”

Maya suddenly understood.

When she made the fourth call, the other end was still silent at first. Maya spoke in a cheerful voice. “Hi, Toby, are you coming home today? I miss you.”

Toby had hung up three times without hesitation.

Finally, on the fourth call, he heard something worth responding to.

“I see.” Toby curled his lips slightly and generously answered her earlier question. “If you mean that boring birthday party, it’s next Monday.”

He thought about his schedule for the week. “I’ll pick you up on Monday.”

“Okay.”

Maya was satisfied.

Toby was satisfied too.

“Hey, is that your girlfriend?” someone next to him laughed. “She called three times in a row. Doesn’t she know any boundaries?”

“It’s my sister.” Toby tossed his phone to the bodyguard behind him, his tone carrying a faint hint of amusement. “She’s young. Kids are clingy.”

“So she needs something from you?” the guy beside him chuckled. “I’ve got younger siblings too. Being the older brother means they only come to you when they cause trouble or want something.”

“I’m not like you.” He kept a cool expression on his face as he replied. “She called repeatedly because she

misses me.”

“Uh…” The other guy looked a little choked up. “How did you even figure that out from those calls?”

Four calls. There was no way she was just calling to say hi. She had to be asking for something.

But Toby seemed completely convinced, as if it were obvious. “She said it herself.”

The other guy was stunned.

Really?

Come on, Toby.

Chapter 133 1 Miss You

You can fool other people, but don’t fool yourself.

After learning that the rich heiress’s birthday party was next week, Maya had no choice but to wait patiently for Monday to come.

The private tutors Toby had hired were basically useless. They couldn’t really teach the two kids anything.

They were the type who would be completely fine even without studying.

Without their mother supervising them, school didn’t mean much beyond group activities. When it came to learning, it was pretty much pointless.

Whether they went or not didn’t matter anymore.

So for the next week, Maya and Alfred finally got to experience what it felt like to rule the house with no parents around.

At first, Alfred refused to join Maya in playing games.

“Games are boring.

“Letting a game control your emotions was the same as letting the game control you.”

That was what he said, anyway.

But after playing two rounds and getting repeatedly crushed by the same opponent ten times in a row, Alfred was completely overwhelmed by frustration.

He threw himself fully into the game world and became completely hooked.

After realizing Maya was actually pretty good at games, Alfred grabbed her without hesitation. “Teach me.”

A week later, when Toby pushed the door open, the scene in front of him made him wonder if he had walked into the wrong place.
