Ethan believed the Hale family was no match for Sean, let alone Luke behind him.
They couldn’t even afford to offend Ryan.
But businessmen avoided open conflict whenever possible.
People usually showed each other respect.
So Ethan spoke to Mia with quiet confidence.
“Crazy?”
Before Mia could answer, Ryan leaned back lazily.
“I’m the one who hit him. Why are you talking to Mia?
“Say whatever you need to me.”
Ryan sounded arrogant. He shot a sharp glance at the injured man.
The man and his family shrank back in fear.
Ryan smiled coldly.
Ryan’s interference caught Ethan off guard.
Mia clearly means a great deal to him.
I had only suggested a private talk, and Ryan jumped to her defense.
Still, Ethan refused to back down.
He ignored Ryan and looked at Sean instead.
He wanted to see where Sean stood.
Sean was the most powerful man there.
If Sean stayed out of it or wanted peace, Ethan could still speak to Mia alone.
Sean saw right through his plan.
He adjusted his glasses and smiled coldly. “Mr. Hale.”
Sean had been hostile ever since Olivia had insulted Mia.
“Colton Group can handle any conflict you bring. Is cornering a woman alone some Hale family
tradition?”

Ethan was shocked.
He never expected Sean to defend Mia so fiercely, even using his company as leverage.
Angering Sean was risky.
But thinking of Lina in the hospital, Ethan pressed on.
“Mr. Colton, we’re all in business. I don’t want trouble,” Ethan said, lowering his tone.
“But your brother is clearly in the wrong. There should be some compensation.”
“You may not know, Mia is my ex-wife,” Ethan added, watching Sean’s face.

“We still have private matters to discuss. She refused to see me before. I thought I’d take this chance.”
“Yeah!” Olivia stepped forward angrily, staring at Mia.
“Lina’s still in the hospital! You made her lose her baby, and now her health’s getting worse! You’re responsible!

Olivia’s angry words died under Sean’s murderous gaze.
His stare was terrifying.
One more word, and he looked ready to attack.
One second he was gentle; the next, he was like a devil.
Olivia stepped back, hiding behind Ethan.
Ethan knew Sean would not let him speak to Mia.
He called his lawyers to negotiate with Sean’s team.
In the end, they settled for just 1,000 dollars.
Mia left with Sean without a glance back.
Ethan watched her go, his eyes narrowed.
Olivia pulled his sleeve. “Ethan, was that really Sean and Ryan? From Luke’s family, the world’s richest?”
Ethan nodded.
Olivia’s fear faded, replaced by obsession.
