Olivia was surprisingly confident. She puffed out her chest, but her eyes dimmed for a second when she thought about Mia’s figure. She clung to Ethan’s arm.
“Ethan, why are you cheering for others and putting me down? I’m the Hale lady. If I marry Sean later, our family is more than good enough.
“Besides, if I really marry into the Knight family, it’ll be huge for you and the Hales. Just help me.”
Ethan scoffed in disbelief. Then Olivia spoke again.
“Also, Mia looks so poor. She only gets attention because of her medical skills. How am I worse than her? If Sean can defend her like that, why can’t he like me? I’m a Hale!
Olivia whined, “Ethan, I don’t care. My whole future happiness is up to you.”
Ethan paid her little mind.
But when he thought about how Sean and Ryan had protected Mia, his eyes darkened.
Foolish woman.
She’s just a rich playboy’s toy. She actually thinks she’s climbed high.
She’ll be crying sooner or later.
In the car, Mia sat in the passenger seat.
Sean drove, and Ryan sat in the back.
Ryan glanced at Sean, then at Mia. He dropped his spoiled-brat act and acted awkwardly obedient.
“Uh… I didn’t mean to start a fight. Don’t tell the family, okay?”
Neither Mia nor Sean responded. Ryan took that as a yes. After a few seconds of silence, he turned to Mia.
“Mia, the guy you were so desperate to marry… that’s the trash you picked?”
Mia stared straight ahead, calm.
“Yeah.”
She always owned her choices.
Ryan leaned back lazily.
“How could you even go for someone like that? I thought you had high standards. With me and Sean around, how’d your taste drop that low?”

The car went quiet.
They stopped at a traffic light. When the car moved again, Sean turned the wheel and asked casually, “The Hales never knew your real identity?”
Mia looked away from the window. She wasn’t surprised by the question. Sean was always observant.
She answered simply, “No.”
Back then, she’d wanted to tell him the truth.
But Ethan hadn’t cared. He’d hinted she was below him..
She’d been stubborn-maybe foolish over love. She’d wanted Ethan to love her for who she was, not for who her family was or what she would inherit.
Using power to force his respect would have been meaningless.
So she’d never said a word.
Their family structure was unusual. All three Knight children had different last names.
Luke never exposed her identity to the public. Almost no one outside their closest circle knew she was the Knight family’s only daughter.
“What about later?” Sean asked, sounding relaxed. “Now that you’re home, we’ll be more involved with the family. What should we say if someone asks who you are?”
Mia didn’t care much about how others saw her.
But she’d just joined Harmony Clinic, not Cole Group’s main clinic. Her father hadn’t revealed her identity, probably wanting her to learn how the clinics really ran first.
She’d been gone far too long.
“Keep it quiet for now,” Mia said shortly.
Sean nodded.
Ryan immediately panicked.
“Why? People are so judgmental. A good family background is for showing off. Did you see how those people acted earlier? Looking down on you like you were easy to pick on.
“You should tell everyone you’re the only daughter of the Knight family, the heir to both Knight Group and Cole Group. Shock all those snobs!”
Mia was unconcerned. “Hard times show you who’s really good.”

Even if she did, she didn’t want to rely on her family. She still believed the same thing: she would reach the top fairly, on her own ability.
Ryan was frustrated by her mindset.
In his opinion, she should take the easy road. Someone as talented as her deserved to stand in the brightest spotlight.
There was no need to lower herself to deal with worthless people.
“Alright,” Sean said gently, nothing like the sharp man who’d confronted Ethan at the police station. He adjusted his glasses and smiled softly. “Our Mimi has her own plan, right?”
After speaking, Sean naturally lifted his hand toward Mia’s hair.
Mia noticed and tilted her head away.
Sean’s hand froze in mid-air. After a short pause, he curled his fingers into a fist, smiled faintly, and lowered his hand, focusing back on driving.
Ryan saw the whole thing and immediately shrank back into his seat.
