Chapter 25 Unlikely Choice
When the cleaning lady saw Mia, her eyes widened at once. She gestured for silence.
“Mia, you’re late again. Remember last time you corrected Dr. Webb in front of a patient, saying she prescribed too much? She’s been waiting to pick on you ever since.
“Go in through the back door. Don’t let her see you, or she’ll tear you apart.”
The lady looked at the fair young girl with deep sympathy,
She was around the same age as her own daughter, but unbelievably skilled.
The lady’s chronic neck pain, which had bothered her for decades, was gone after just a quick treatment from Mia.
Her daughter’s long-term rhinitis was cured in half a month with a simple folk recipe Mia taught her-no cost at all.
Such a talented girl, yet she was picked on just because she was young.
She was made to sweep floors and chop herbs all day. Her hands turned red and chapped in the cold.
It pained the lady to watch.
She couldn’t imagine how Mia’s parents would feel if they saw her like this.
And Mia was too stubborn for her own good.
She had offended Ruth Webb, who handled staffing, and never tried to sweet-talk her.
Now she was targeted every single day.
Mia felt exasperated just thinking about it.
She’d had no choice but to speak up that day.
A patient had come in with a simple cold, and Ruth had prescribed hundreds of dollars’ worth of medicine.
The patient was an elderly man. When he saw the total cost, he’d nearly fainted on the spot.
Mia gave him just two herbs-total cost: ten dollars.
He’d recovered completely that night and insisted his family send Mia a banner of praise.
The family had publicly criticized Ruth on their way out.
After that, Ruth had made Mia her personal target.
She was just thinking about clocking in when a sharp voice exploded behind her.

“Mia Cole! How dare you be late again!”
The cleaning lady sighed and shot Mia a helpless look.

“How many times is that this month? Today’s only the second, and you’re already late twice! Do you plan on being late every day from now on?
“You were transferred here from above, and you still won’t behave. You think you’re protected, so I can’t fire you? Is that why you’re so reckless?
“Let me tell you, Mia-”
The hallway of the clinic was long.
Leo peered through the crowd.
The young woman had clear, bright eyes and fair skin. Her hair was in a youthful high bun.
She wore a casual white sweatshirt, dark blue jeans that hugged her well-shaped legs, and white sneakers.
From a distance, she looked like a college student.
Leo vaguely remembered that she’d been bold and lively when they were kids.
Now, as she was being scolded, she was surprisingly calm and tolerant.
“Mr. Ford,” Martin said, his palms soaked with sweat. At least a dozen reporters waited outside. If he said the wrong thing, his career would be ruined. “Your agent said you injured your face yesterday?”
When Leo turned and Martin saw the wound above his eyebrow, he nearly fell out of his chair.
The blood has only just stopped. Why isn’t he getting emergency care at a conventional hospital instead?
He’d heard Leo’s face was insured for tens of millions of dollars.
If he messed this up, he would be ruined.
“Dr. Brooks,” the agent said sharply, “Mr. Ford isn’t just anyone/He has tens of millions of fans. If your hand shakes even a little today, don’t be surprised if they shut this clinic down.”
A large bead of sweat rolled down Martin’s face. His hand trembled around his
pen.
“Why scare him?” Leo said, a lazy smile on his striking face. He rested his elbows on the table. “If you’re too nervous, young man, should I ask for someone else?”
Martin nodded frantically, his eyes darting about.
The agent jumped in right away. “Mr. Ford, I told you-holistic medicine for minor issues, conventional medicine for serious injuries. Your face is everything. Let’s go to a private hospital right now. I’ll call the top expert-”

“I want her instead.”
Leo lifted a finger. The agent and Martin both followed his gaze.
The agent, Willis Ward, froze.
o did Martin.
“Her?”
“Yes, her.”
“But-“Willis stared, aghast, as Mia picked up a broom and started sweeping. He nearly passed out. He quickly leaned down toward Leo. “Mr. Ford, that mysterious genius who hides as a nobody only exists in movies. I know you love those martial arts flicks, but let’s be reasonable here-”
“I’m not reasonable.”
Willis fell silent.
A moment later, Ruth rushed into the treatment room.
“Mr. Ford, Mia is only a junior physician here. She isn’t qualified to take official cases yet. Look-”
She eagerly pushed forward profiles of all the senior doctors at Harmony Clinic.
“Pick anyone you like. These are all our experts.”
Ruth shot a nervous glance at the reporters blocking the door.
If Mia treated him and failed, the clinic’s reputation would be destroyed and my year-end performance review would be completely ruined.
