MATHE
Chapter 13
When the transport truck finally stopped, the freezing wind hit my face like a knife.
I stepped out of the truck carrying my small bag. A harsh breeze carrying the scent of pine and wild snow rushed past me. I pulled my jacket tighter around my shoulders.
Outside, the scenery was wild and rough. Under the vast, grey sky lay an endless stretch of snowy mountains and dark forests. The buildings here were made of thick wood and stone. It was completely different from the glass towers and luxury of the Ice Crown Headquarters.
A hollow, wild silence had replaced the noisy, strict rules of my old pack.
This was the Bloodmoon Outpost in the Badlands. It was the front line against rogue attacks.
A middle-aged she-wolf walked out to greet me. It was Head Healer Evans. She had a tough face but a warm smile.
Harper Brooks, right? It was a long trip! You must be freezing.” Healer Evans led me toward the sleeping cabins.
The conditions here can’t compare to Headquarters. This is the border-it’s remote, dangerous, and the winters are brutal. I hope you don’t mind.”
Not at all. It’s perfect,” I replied softly. I truly meant it.
My cabin was at the end of the row. It was a single room with a small bathroom. The furniture was basic-a wooden bed, a desk, and 1 small fireplace-but it was warm and clean.
Take some time to rest. There’s no rush to start working. I’ll show you around the medical tents tomorrow,” Healer Evans said
>efore heading out.
walked over to the window and pushed it open. The smell of the wild forest filled my lungs. There was no Silas Vance here. No Chloe Miller. None of those judging stares or pack gossip.
shook my head, forcing myself to stop thinking about them. I opened my bag and quickly unpacked my few clothes and herbs.
n the afternoon, I decided I didn’t want to rest. I headed straight for the outpost’s archive room to check their medical records.
The archive room was tucked away in an old stone building. The door was open, revealing piles of old patrol maps and dusty books
bout herbs.
The wolf in charge was Elder Wright. She had silver hair and wore reading glasses. She was busy organizing some old reports.
When she saw me, she smiled brightly. “Oh! A new face! You must be the new Healer.”
Yes, hello, I’m Harper Brooks. I just arrived today,” I said, giving a polite nod.
Harper Brooks… oh! I remember the message from Headquarters!” Elder Wright slapped her knee. “Welcome, welcome! It’s rare or a big-city wolf to visit our dangerous little corner of the world.”
offered a small smile but didn’t say much.
Elder Wright was very talkative. “You arrived at the perfect time. We are so short-handed! The medical logs are a complete mess, and we have so many wounded guards from the rogue attacks…”
she continued talking about the daily life at the outpost, and I listened quietly. The atmosphere here was raw and real, completely different from the fake politeness at Headquarters.
Oh, and there’s another young male who arrived a month before you. His name is Lucas Sterling. He’s from the Western Wilds. Quite a character!”
That boy is full of energy. He acts more like a wild rogue on vacation than a border guard…”
Just as she was speaking, the sound of heavy, confident footsteps echoed from the hallway, along with a cheerful, whistling tune.

‘Elder Wright! I’m back to bother you again! I found those rare moon-flowers you asked for during my patrol!”
His voice was deep, rich, and full of life.
A tall, broad-shouldered man walked into the room like a gust of fresh air. His dark hair was messy from the wind. He was wearing
leather jacket, and his handsome face carried a brilliant, dazzling smile.
The scent of sun-baked pine and warm amber filled the room. It was incredibly strong.
He set a handful of rare blue flowers on the desk. Then, he looked up and his eyes met mine.
The man froze for a split second. His breathing stopped. Then, his smile grew even wider and brighter.
Elder Wright, who is this? We have a beautiful new wolf and you didn’t even tell me?”
