After I was fired, I didn’t look for a new job.
I only had a little bit of my mission left to finish.
So I acted heartbroken, too upset to work, and desperate to hold onto Ian.
I even showed off in front of the female lead from time to time.
But that evening. I was about to go out and beg lan to take me back when Ann showed up at my door, whom I hadn’t
seen in a while.
A man stood beside her.
Ann’s eyes reddened as soon as she saw me. She threw herself into my arms and mumbled through tears, “Scarlett…
missed you.”
The man said, “Miss Kingsley, I’m the new butler. The young lady insisted on seeing you. I hope we’re not disturbing
you…”
I quickly held Ann close and kissed her soft cheek, “It’s okay, you’re not disturbing me at all.”
After the butler left, I pinched her face gently, “You haven’t had dinner yet, have you, sweetheart? Let me make you
something.”
She followed me step by step and said sweetly, “She followed me step by step and said sweetly. “I’m cooking with Scarlett!”
When we finished eating, I carried her to the sofa and watched cartoons with her.
Ann grew tired from playing and slowly drifted off in my arms.
I grabbed a blanket, wrapped her up, and held her securely.
Half–asleep, she grabbed my collar and mumbled in her dream, “Mommy mommy
My heart softened I kissed her again.
Just then, the doorbell rang
I opened the door and saw Kael standing outside
Thinking about what had happened that night. I didn’t dare say much and asked politely. Did you come to pick Ann
up?
But this time, he stood there without saying a word for a long time
Chapter 12
His gray empty eyes stared straight at me, motionless.
‘Mr Paulson?”
Finally, Kael made a sound, his voice rough.
I turned to let him in, but he stayed still and said, “I can’t see. Would you mind helping me in?”
Something felt strange, but I still stepped forward and took his arm.
But he slowly placed his hand into mine, lacing our fingers together, and said calmly. “This is easier.”
He nearly wrapped his whole hand around mine, and his palm grew hotter by the second.
I shifted uncomfortably, but he held me even tighter.
I helped him sit on the sofa and asked casually. “Would you like some water?”
To my surprise, he nodded. “Yes.”
The odd feeling in my chest grew stronger.
He drank slowly and elegantly.
I waited a long time for him to finish.
Just then, thunder crashed outside.
The rain started pouring down.
I checked the weather and saw that a heavy rainstorm was expected all night.
Kael heard the rain and finally finished his water. He asked calmly. “It’s raining?”
I looked at the father and daughter in front of me. One was blind, the other was only two years old.
I couldn’t let them go out in this storm.
I hesitated and asked. ‘Why don’t you stay in the guest bedroom tonight?”
Kael’s lips seemed to curve for a split second–so fast I thought I’d imagined it
He nodded gently and said. “Thank you. Miss Kingsley That would be a big help.”
