Jade’s pov
“Are you okay?” Dante asked me and I nodded.
“I just need some time alone,” I said and then walked off.
He didn’t say anything to stop me or try to follow me.
I sat down on my spot and just processed everything.
I didn’t want Dante and the others to find out about my powers like that.
But I know, I can’t hide forever, eventually everything will come out.

My mother sat next to me and handed me a glass.
“We have never had a drink together,” she said pouring alcohol contents into my glass.
“Did you forget? I am trying to get pregnant,” I reminded her and she just kept the glass up.
I took it and gulped it down and she poured me another me.
I guess I am not pregnant, if I was she wouldn’t have offered alcohol.
“You did well,” she said and I looked at her surprised.
“Did you just compliment me?” I asked her and she sighed at this.
“Don’t act like this is the first time,” she said and I looked up.
She is right, this isn’t the first time really.
When I was away I had time to think and look back at things.
Yes, in her eyes it always felt like I wasn’t enough.
But I have gotten her praises which is more than what I can say for others.
“You seemed relieved that you are not pregnant yet,” she pointed out and I sighed.
“I have decided to stay with Dante,” I said and she nodded.
“Your sister called me crying, she wanted to cancel the alliance,” she answered.

“Then why didn’t you? Your precious daughter asked you. You forced me to marry him,” I pointed out.
“And do you hate me for it? Knowing what you know now, if you could go back to that day. Would your answer be no?” she asked me.
I know what she is trying to say but it’s not like she knew that this was going to happen.
“Are you part of that we that Alpha Howard was talking about?” I asked her and she just smiled.
“But you didn’t answer my question,” she said and I sighed.
“You didn’t ask one,” I pointed out and she chuckled at this.
“Why are you relieved that you aren’t pregnant? Dante loves you and you love him right?” she asked me and I nodded.
“I just don’t think that I would be a great mother,” I answered and she nodded.
“My mother was a really shitty mother, and I grew up to be just like her. I became everything I hated and loathed as a child,” she said and then looked at me.
“My favorite child hates me more than anything,” she said with tears in her eyes.

Is she talking about me?
“I am your favorite child?” I asked her and she chuckled and nodded.
“Oh well, that’s real fucked up,” I said and she nodded.

I have heard from my Aunt and Uncle about their mother when they were growing up.
And I had the displeasure of meeting my grandmother and every meeting with her traumatized me.

“I have no excuse for how I treated you. Even if I did, it was still a really fucked up way of preparing you” she said and I frowned.
“Preparing me, preparing me for what?” I asked her.

Come to think of it, come to think of it my training started getting harder after he showed up.
After he showed up, nothing I did was good enough in my mother’s eyes.
That’s when the training started getting brutal and hard.
I was about to say something when she suddenly handed me a pint of ice cream and a
spoon.
“You had this with you all this time?” I asked her and she chuckled.
My mother prepares vanilla, she doesn’t like any other flavors.

“Unfortunately, we have had to see the darkness inside each other. And I just sat and watched the darkness being created inside you,” she said and then looked up.
“As someone who knows you best in the world. I know that you would make a great mother,” she added and I looked at her surprised.
“You are kind, you care about everyone around you. You have so much love to give,” she said
and then looked at me.
“You are the most beautiful soul I have ever known. And I am proud that you are my daughter,
she added sobbing.
“Mom, are you dying or something?” I asked her and she shook her head with a chuckle.
“No, but almost losing Jay made me realize that there is so much I didn’t you guys. I never told you how much I love you,” she said and then sighed.
“I know you will do a better job than I did. All you have to do is look inside you, find in you
what I couldn’t find in me,” she added and I smiled at this.
Aunt, once confessed that she heard this from Mom once.

She said that it was when she was pregnant for the first time and feeling depressed.
She wasn’t sure if she could be a good mother since she was still a teenager.
She told me that my mother told her that.
“I know my sister isn’t perfect, but I am sure she loves you in her own twisted way,” were her words to me.
“You said that Sasha called you crying. Why aren’t you angry or disappointed that I took away my sister’s mate?” I asked her and she just shrugged.
“Your sister is the same one that begged me to sacrifice you to her mate,” she answered and then sighed.
“Begged?” I asked her and she thought about it.
“More like threatened me, she said that if I didn’t then she would kill herself,” Mom added.
“And you heard that decided to ruin my life?” I asked her and she shook her head.
“I told your sister she can go ahead and do it,” she answered.
I looked at her, my mother isn’t the kind of person that lies about such things.
“But then what changed your mind?” I asked her and she smiled.
“A call I received from Alpha King Howard. You remember the secret project I was working on?” she asked me and I nodded.
“The one you said would protect me from that man if he comes back,” I answered and she
nodded.
“He had the other missing puzzle, it’s best you see it with your own eyes,” she added.
I rested my head on her shoulder, it’s best to be patient and wait for what it is she was
working on.
“Jade, can I ask you for something?” she asked me and I nodded.
“Is it too late for you and me to work on our relationship?” she asked me and I closed my eyes at this.
“It’s never too late Mom,” I answered and she rested her head on mine.
“Good to hear that,” she answered. It’s not too late, right?
